The Fleet Report and Daily for Saturday September 3rd, 2022
rafinmd replied to richwmn's topic in Holland America Line
Thank you for the Saturday report, Rich. @grapau27, tailgating originated with US football games probably in about the 50's where a lot of people drove station wagons with tailgates (much like modern pickup trucks) and people would congregate in the stadium parking lot with lots of snacks and drop the tailgates of the wagons and have a party sharing fellowship, rooting for their teams, and sharing food. I suspect there were also a lot of adult beverages involved which would not be good news for the drive home after the game. Skyscrapers can be majestic and cinemas can probably use a day in post covid times. Been to Mindelo just once on my segment of the 2014 Amsterdam World Cruise. I'm with @Crazy For Cats that I would prefer the meal minus the pesto. A sad day in Baltimore today. Captain Anthony Workman died today as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on his way to work. It can be considered a line of duty death. Roy- 102 replies

I agree, I have a feeling the refugees' next stop will not be nearly as nice but still better than being in Ukraine right now. Roy -

Welcome to the Daily/Fleet Report. I personally have no doubt Volendam is still engaged with Ukranian Refugees. While the flow of refugees has certainly slowed down, I doubt that many are going back and settling the ones that are here will take some time. I would also think that if a ship was used for training it would likely often head out to sea. Roy- 102 replies

Happy Anniversary @marshhawk. Somehow I missed that one. @Quartzsite Cruiser that sounds promising on the medical front. I realized that while I have not been to A Coruna on my very first European Cruise (Crystal Symphony 1996) I visited Santiago de Compostela from Vigo. Roy- 102 replies

Rabbit Rabbit, White Rabbit. Thank you Rich for the first Fleet Report/Daily for September. Ginger Cats will be much beloved here. I'll pass on the Tofu but love Cherry Popovers but rarely eat them. Love the Dessen quote. Been to Boca twice on the Elegant Explorer. I think I'll pass on the meal. The Fleet Report and Daily for Wednesday August 31st, 2022

I've done that several times and will again when I do a repo on Vision of the Seas from Fort Lauderdale to Baltimore. I wish Amtrak could get their new Miami station by the airport open as it's nice to board the train leisurely right at the beginning. There's a nice hotel right across the street but they can't open it because there is a crossing right where they would be staging the train. Roy -

This is NOT from @StLouisCruisers; It's from @0106. It's a quirk of Cruise Critic that when you highlight text inside a quote and then click "Quote this Selection" that it is attributed to person doing the quote, not from the person who created the text. Roy -

While I love trains I avoided the auto train for many years. I always felt the worst part of the drive to Florida was the section around Washington, and there was a second route to the east of Washington that connected with I95 near Richmond. I think I95 in general has gotten worse, and that secondary route has gotten a lot worse, changing my calculation. I used the Auto Train for the first time at Christmas of 2019. Roy -

It's a train that runs from just South of Washington DC (Lorton VA) to Sanford Florida. The front third is a regular Amtrak train with sleeping cars and s string of car carriers at the back. You must check in around noon, they put a number in your dashboard and on your boarding pass. I think the train leaves about 3 and arrives about 9 the next morning. There's a huge waiting room in each terminal where you wait until your car number is called on a big digital board, https://www.amtrak.com/auto-train-experience Roy- 95 replies

I haven't flown since my return from Australia in 2020 and have no desire to do so again. I am using the auto train for my November Eurodam cruise and hope to do so again. The Sanford terminal is between Jacksonville and Tampa so a BHB from either Port Canaveral or Tampa would be very nice for me. I think I remember that the Oosterdam was somewhat modified and the only Vista that can get under the bridge. Roy- 95 replies

@cunnorl there's been a lot of talk about ship congestion in Florida. How would you feel about a BHB home porting in Port Canaveral? Roy- 95 replies
