  1. Change happened post pandemic after (most) everyone who bought them before the shut down...expired during the shut down. I am not sure what the extension time is now, but Princess is "expecting" everyone to cruise once a year. The good news is that you can now have someone on a ship, purchase FCDs for you; IF they are willing to charge it to their credit card and they have your Captain Circle Number. Bought March 23 / good for 2 years Bought May 23 / good for 1 year
  2. I'm sorry, I didn't add my signature: aka sheldon cooper. I was going to list the many time zones this year, but decided that I would spare everyone my ping pong travels. And yes, Princess does Hawaii bound cruises outside of November and March. Read and pay attention to all notices while aboard a ship.
  3. Just had to chime in here. Island time, "Hawaiian time", local time....can mean something totally different (localism) in the STATE of Hawaii. My sister was always late for potluck dinners. She was assigned dessert. "Hawaiian time" means "whenever you get there" usually inferring that most attendees are late. I, on the other hand, was always early, even if it meant waiting in the car. I do think the OP is asking about the Caribbean Islands (time). Maybe OP will return and specify which island they are referring to. Most of Hawaiian cruises happen during Standard Time (November to March). There is only a 2 hour difference during those months between San Pedro/San Francisco and Hawaii.
  4. On the Diamond, I strangely saw nibbles in the casino...on a table by the bar.
  5. Get you passport sent in ASAP....before November 15 possible government shut down. Hopefully, it will process quickly.
  6. @Ken the cruiser All the above is true...except for me. It wasn't until we left Bar Harbor, ME, that I decided to seek treatment...while ported in Saint John, Nb. Hence, my need to get Medicare to "deny" my claim...forward it on to my secondary who may/may not reimburse, before I can FINALLY submit it to AON. The good, is that my checking account has already received the reimbursement for trip cancellation (minutes after filling out online form). AND medical center was "paid" with non-refundable OBC which I will be back as "cash". This money/bill is very small compared to the trip interruption refund I received since I was in a suite.
  7. Just hit the confirm button for electronic deposit from AON to my checking account for trip interruption due to 2 nights of COVID isolation. Not so easy with Medicare and reimbursement for medical center. Finally received claim back from Medicare...needs more information (ugh). Sure hope the clock does not reset to another 60 days. Claim filed August 11 for July 30.
  8. I am returning to the Caribbean Princess in a few weeks. I had a fabulous cruise this summer. Great staff, excellent cabin, good food. I do not understand the premise to this thread. Yes, she is an older ship But that is about it. I was on her pre-pandemic/pre dry dock and she went dead in the water and did also have propulsion problems. But I am not sure what other "negativity" there is/was associated with her. Maybe you should consider the newer Royal Class or Sun Class ships. For me, I am not interested in these ships with lots of bells and whistles. Give me the Grand/GEM class ships and I am perfectly happy.
  9. Very few passengers know that there is an elevator from deck 4 to the tender landing. All you have to do is be able to get on the tender with some assistance. But then, you will have to negotiate a few steps inside the tender.
  10. Considering that you are an elite with most of the suite perks, then the only difference would be losing suite breakfast and a larger cabin. Only you can decide if this is worth it. The Diamond Japan itinerary is pretty port intensive. You seem to be a better match for the Royal Class ships (with the concierge's lounge). That is why Princess has different classes of ships.
  11. Express/same day laundry Complementary mini-bar 2 bottles of water nightly Suite/elite line at Customer Service desk You should have access to a Concierge Biggest trade off is a smaller ship
  12. I know nothing about Royal Class ships (Royal, Regal, Enchanted, Discovery, Majestic). For Grand and Gem class ships (Ruby, Emerald, Crown <Deck 15/Riviera. Grand, Caribbean, Sapphire, Diamond <Deck 14/Aloha>), the deck right below Lido aft is good. Aft Elevator goes up to the back of the buffet. For you, a few steps up to the AFT Terrace. Aft Elevator will take you down to the aft MDR. That deck has suites, balconies, and interior cabins. It will be a long walk to the middle of the ship (Piazza, pools, International Cafe, Lido deck foods).
  13. Oh, how I wish. Just checked. Good news....$60 pp/pd for Plus.
  14. I am so confused. Very normal for me. "I told you so"....not...yes...not...yes...
  15. All is not lost...yet. Keeping trying directly with the airlines (Qantas owns the plane/equipment). The most they can say is "no". https://www.qantas.com/us/en/manage-booking/upgrade/bid-now-upgrade.html
  16. Welcome to Cruise Critic where hopefully you will find some answers. Unfortunately, this time, you will be offered a lot of guidance for the NEXT time you book through EZ Air or directly with an airline. Everything that has been said above is accurate. You had 45 days past final payment to make any changes without penalty. That is the bonus of going through EZ Air. Final payment was 90 days prior but you still had some wiggle room. Even when my ticket was cut at 90 days, I was still able to make modifications and even cancel my flight, as long as it was before the 45 days deadline. Once the ticket is paid for and handed over to the airlines, you are at their mercy. As one AA rep told me....it's their (Japan Airlines) aluminum tube and therefore up to Japan Airlines for any thing. Air Canada won't even let you pick "free" seats until 24 hours check in. If you want to pick seats, you would have to pay....for selection. Every airline has their little twists and turns. I was under a lot of stress on my last cruise using EZ Air. But it all worked out in the end. Maybe you will be allowed to bid up for a better seat. Good luck. I have used EZ Air 4 times now and still think their prices are better. I like the flexibility. I have one more booked 300 days out. I wouldn't want to pay the airlines the fare today for a cruise next summer.
  17. If you are Platinum AND purchase PVP basic, you will be complimentarily given PVP Platinum for the same price.
  18. Is there an age requirement for attending 360? Would someone as young as 5 be allowed to attend?
  19. There is a huge difference in fresh and frozen (flash or otherwise) seafood. California requires all fish to be frozen. Hawaii is an exception...I can get poke that uses freshly caught fish.
  20. I have never received a receipt. I take a screen shot and print the page on my summary that says it has been paid.
  21. Me too...(not quite as high as $40). But I did buy an additional 100 for single digits. I have cruised enough to recover most, if not all, of my investments.
  22. Sorry, no filets, lobster, or other main meats from specialty dining rooms. Usually, it is anything from the MDR/buffet breakfast menu (hence Cowboy steak or breakfast steak). I tried....since they were making lobster ravioli in Sabatini's....thought they could sneak a nibble or two. No chance.
  23. The best time for drop off and pick up is between disembarkation and embarkation. I am usually dropped off around 10 ish. Traffic is not so crazy. It's a little more difficult to pick up at berth 93. They do have a handicap section right near the exit and general pick up is a little further down.
  24. Yes, he is from India, but has called Poland his home for 30 years. He likes to announce that in his culinary demonstrations. He's so funny. Yes, I sat in the overflow area the entire night during my last cruise. So entertaining to watch everyone coming through the doors or being "guided" to the other other. Have seen the area shrink and grow. Had the best service in that area too. It's dark when I eat, so sitting by a window is not important. I've had the round table in the very far window corner too. By far, my favorite table.
