  1. thanks this is a helpful thread!
  2. Thanks, this looks pretty great. I don't know if I will be able to talk to my husband into this one since we went on an (amazing) land trip to Iceland not that long ago, but if I somehow end up doing a solo trip again next year, this looks really good. We've done a lot of traveling with our 2 history-and-music mad sons (now in their 20s) so your teen would be a plus! Also, thanks for the reminder about searching for ports. I am getting to where unusual ports are a big draw for me. Greenland would be a plus on this one. Let me know if you and your son have other suggestions or trips planned! emily.karr@stoel.com
  3. Eileen Fisher renew is a good source for gently used Eileen Fisher. The Rack seems to have some cropped gauze pants.
  4. Thanks for doing this. It is very helpful.
  5. Such an interesting itinerary. Look forward to following along.
  6. I was in Dublin last summer on a land trip and it was easy, at least once you are at all near the historic center. We bought tickets online to the Book of Kells, which also takes you through a nice walk through campus. We were too late to get tickets to the Gaol, but that would have been my choice of what to do next. I do wish we had gone to the Postal Office Museum (may not have the name right) to learn more about the Easter Rising. We went to the Emigration Museum which 2/3 of us thought was skippable and trite. Also just nice walking window shopping and so on through the historic center/ temple bar area.
  7. regarding the available tickets: I went last summer, June 2022. We were supposed to be (as a party of 3) in our own black cab. It was a Sunday and there was some sort of mixup and so we ended up having another couple in the cab with us, which worked totally fine. There was plenty of room for 5. This is an old fashioned London type black cab, with plenty of legroom. I know they have many drivers so 70 might be the max if everyone is pressed into service. There's no way you could be on a trip of 70 people because by definition you are in a black cab that has a max capacity of 6. Your driver gives you an interesting talk while he drives you around and when you get out of the cab at the different murals and sites. We got out at maybe 5 to 7 different places.
  8. This is good to know!
  9. This was on a land based trip so I can’t answer that. We met them at a public building in downtown Belfast near where we were staying. I do believe they do pick up. They seemed very flexible particularly if you were doing a private tour.
  10. I love reading your reviews and I’m looking forward to staying in Amsterdam before our Apex cruise in August. Right now I’m listening to Amsterdam by Russell Shorto, and I highly recommend it to anybody who wants some pre-reading for a trip to Amsterdam.
  11. I haven't tried it yet (a neck pillow you can stuff with clothes), but I'm thinking about it for an upcoming solo trip where I want to pack light (lots of trains) but also have a mix of climates and work/personal time. Space will be at a premium! I think I understand the concept to be that you can take a pillow on without it counting as a personal item or carry on, which can help with the tight restrictions in European airlines' carry on policies. Would love to hear from anyone who has used this!
  12. Thanks, this is great to see. Traveling with my sons (in their 20s) this summer and they really like to hit the buffet times I don't feel like eating (again) so I'm glad to see there are a lot of choices.
  13. What’s the best way to search for this cabin type across different cruises?
  14. Black Taxi Tours - Cab Tours Belfast We used this company and were very pleased. Our guide was Isaac and I would ask for him again.
  15. I was looking at that W so this is helpful information. Thanks.
  16. We really enjoyed Newgrange when we were there last summer. I have a real interest in things Neolithic but my husband and son also thought it was a highlight of the trip.
  17. This is helpful information, thank you!
  18. I like cruises for solo travel but I've also done land based trips solo. I'm leaving in about a month on a 2 week trip from Vienna by train. I really recommend this website for train travel. The Man in Seat 61 | The train travel guide
  19. This sounds wonderful. I have happy memories of watching movies as a teen on cruises with my parents.
  20. I'm a perennial over packer but I wear dresses during the day in hot climates especially. So I wouldn't take a different outfit every night for dinner, but I take things that could be day or night dresses depending on accessories. I think having 2 outfits for every day of travel is too much even for me and I would use some of the space for scarves, jewelry, wraps that change the look of what I have.
  21. These explanations are really interesting. On a personal level, a bit of a bummer since I was thinking I could work during sea days on a transpacific cruise and that may be a bit of wishful thinking.
