Arlie Beach or Yorkeys Tenders
possum52 replied to Yehootu's topic in Australia & New Zealand Cruisers
Yorkey's Knob is where the tenders drop off passengers for Cairns. There is likely to be a shuttle taking passengers into Cairns from Yorkey's Knob. Cairns is a beautiful city with lots to do. Airlie Beach is a very pretty little town. I would do both, but if you really want to have a day to yourself on the ship, perhaps Airlie Beach is the place to do it. -
Taxi or Uber is the best way to get to your hotel from the airport. It will cost approximately $65.

Just a heads up Lyle, there is a public holiday in Victoria on Monday 10th March so it is a long weekend. Accommodation gets filled very quickly as it will be the last long weekend before Easter which is nearly six weeks later, particularly in the tourist areas along the Great Ocean Road. -
I would suggest in NZ Whittakers chocolate. Whittakers is the best NZ chocolate, it comes in many different flavours, some quite unusual. Also if you have the chance to buy an ice cream cone in NZ, try Hokey Pokey flavour - vanilla with honeycomb toffee pieces in it.

Australia produces its own Merino wool products. It's where the Merino wool you find in NZ originated from. In fact, NZ uses some Australian Merino wool in producing its products. Australia produces 81% of the world's Merino wool. As yarramar said, possum fur mixed with wool is a typical NZ product - gloves, scarves, jumpers, caps, cardigans, jackets etc are all extremely warm. I have possum and Merino gloves, the best and warmest I have.

The joy of getting new foreign currency

I'm pretty sure that happens with fundraising shopping trips too. Well, it did on the ones I went on back in the 90s. I was sort of surprised to see they still are going. -

I have just cooked some corned beef for dinner tonight and for sandwiches for a couple of days. Mustard pickles will be served with it. -

Or book a hotel where breakfast is included. Our son and his family will be in Sydney in a couple of weeks staying at Darling Harbour where their hotel has included buffet breakfast. But booking an apartment with a kitchen is a good idea particularly if there is a laundry included. -

I never eat a big breakfast, I struggle with just two eggs on toast. I think since the return to eating out regularly after Covid that the costs of eating out have gone up along with the general cost of living. -

Thank you. It is quite amazing how much progress he has made and hopefully will continue to. -

The price of a full English breakfast is around $27-$28 if not dearer. At Les' favourite City Extra at Circular Quay, the cost of a big breakfast - the Australian equivalent of a full English, also without baked beans and black pudding which I have never found served here, the cost is $28. The Big Breakfast $28.00 GF Optional The lot – you’d better be hungry! 2 eggs, a sausage, rasher of bacon, grilled tomato, hashbrown potatoes and a toasted roll -

Thanks for asking Linda. He is recovering slowly but quite well. He saw the surgeon just before Christmas who was very pleased with his progress. Rob hasn't had to use the negative pressure machine since that visit to the surgeon but has his dressing changed Monday, Wednesday and Friday by a nurse from the Hospital in The Home Service. He is walking well now and nearly ready to use a stick after using crutches. The wound is getting smaller and is looking much better. It has been a long haul and still a way to go. -

Not one person on the ship had a flight booked for that day? -
Cairns: How to do the Skyrail/train combo if arriving by ship?

What website are you looking at to book on? What time does your ship leave? -

That would be great if you didn’t have the stress of trying to get to the airport for a flight or cancelling and then booking a flight for later in the day. -
Nope, unfortunately the Aldi token doesn't fit the Coles or Woolies trolleys.

Unlikely if you are coming into Sydney. 😀 -

What if you are late in to Sydney? Or disembarkation is delayed? It can happen. Then you spoil your cruise by stressing if you are going to make your flight. It has happened to us in Sydney - ship was late in due to weather. Fortunately we had booked our flight to Melbourne for the afternoon. -

Jinek Bay is not next to the tender pier/wharf. If you look at a map of Lifou you will see Jinek Bay near the northern end of the island. If you zoom right in and use the satellite function, you will see where the pier is and where Jinek Bay is. Yes, Jinek Bay is closed and there is no indication when it will open again. We have snorkelled from the beach near the pier in the past.

Sorry, I should have added that this is being organised by the local council/port as Geoff has stated,
