  1. What I quoted was from the page for applying for an ETA. How to Apply for an ETA To me it seems that the OP may have applied for tourist visas rather than an ETA and NZeTA and that they have used a third party site rather than the government sites. For an ETA, you have to apply for it using the app.
  2. What website did you use? And what visa did you apply and pay for? I assume you have a US passport, if so all you need to have applied for was an ETA (electronic travel authority) for Australia and a NZeTA for New Zealand. This from the website Mic included in his post above - Visa outcome We will let you know our decision on your visa application in writing. If the visa is granted we will tell you: your visa grant number the date your visa starts your visa conditions. You should keep a copy of our decision with you while in Australia.
  3. First of all, how long are you in Sydney? If you are in Sydney for more than one day, I suggest you make a whole day trip and not have to rush there and more particularly back to Sydney from Leura or Katoomba. I would be inclined to do as dreams-of-travel suggested. It sounds a really good plan for the day.
  4. The cost is nearly twice what you quoted on today's current exchange rate at $13.12-$13.98. The cost in AU$ is 19.48 offpeak and 20.68 peak per person. one way. Sydney Airport Train Costs When you step into the train, you will be in an open area and have always found a seat and placed our luggage in front of us.
  5. The museum has been closed since the end of June I believe. Which is a shame for both visitors and the locals.
  6. According to the Museum website - Marlborough Museum is temporarily closed while a transfer of ownership takes place. The Archives remain open by appointment only. July 2023 I also found this article - Marlborough Museum Closure and this one which is more up to date - Closure of Marlborough Museum
  7. As you are only in NZ for a short time and I assume arriving by cruise ship, you just need to apply for the NZeTA either on the government app or online at this link (that Sinbad the Porter provided in his comment above) - NZeTA For the Australian ETA, it has to be applied for on the official government app which is available at your mobile phone/cell store. 8. I just looked it up as I was interested to know the origin of the name too - from the local council website street names is the following - Named after Captain T. A. Lake the Skipper of the SS Victoria, one of the first vessels to Cairns. This would make sense as the street runs almost to the waterfront.
  9. Yes there will be vans, which will of course cost more, but will be cheaper than two taxis.
  10. I’m an Essendon supporter, the third generation of my paternal grandmother’s family to barrack for them. Daughter is fourth generation and eldest grandchild is the fifth.
  11. Supposedly it is true, but don't know how they reach that conclusion. Not sure who was surveyed and how many or where. Perhaps if only done in Sydney or even NSW, the Swans may come out on top but I wouldn't have thought they would in the remainder of the country. Just looked it up, it's a Roy Morgan survey. 12. Sorry, for the delay in getting back to you, dinner preparations got in the way. Yes you are correct. I can remember going to Tower Hill while at high school for an excursion to look at the various geological rock formations. It is an interesting place to go to. It became a tourist site from the early 1970s. We still visit occasionally.
  13. I know Lake Street (we stayed in an apartment there last year), it's not too far from the seafront, so could easily see that it would flood.
  14. No, I don't know the name Lyle. But I will ask my father and brother and some cousins who still live there. Of course, if she is married, I may know her by her maiden name and depending on her age we may be different generations. I left Warrnambool in April 1974 to make my home in Melbourne, not long after Rob and I were married. But we still make numerous trips each year to see my father and brother.
  15. There sure are many things to explore not far from home. My husband's maternal grandfather's family lived in Ballarat during the gold rush. His ancestor was a jeweller and had a quite successful business I understand. Bendigo is another interesting city to visit for local history and easily reached by train.
  16. The Eureka flag at the Ballarat Art Gallery? Or the Eureka Centre in Ballarat?
  17. The Great Ocean Road finishes just before Warrnambool. The highway through to Adelaide along the coast is the Princes Highway. You would have travelled through my home town of Warrnambool. Hahndorf is a beautiful town. What a fantastic trip you had.
  18. Which way did you drive to Adelaide John? Did you continue on from the Great Ocean Road along the coast into South Australia or cut up to the Western Highway and through to Adelaide? If you went through Warrnambool and Portland across to South Australia you travelled through the South West region of Victoria. If you went via the Western Highway, you travelled through the Wimmera region.
  19. Gippsland extends right across the south east of Victoria from the outer Melbourne suburbs to the NSW border and of course includes the beautiful Gippsland Lakes. Gippsland tends to be where most of Victoria’s big bush/forest fires occur. In the 2019-2020 fire season, many towns and areas of Gippsland were affected by fire.
  20. As you went to Phillip Island, you drove through southwest Gippsland John. Or did you go to Phillip Island on a cruise?
  21. Looking at an online cruise TA and for all cruise lines - between now and March 2024, there are only four cruises from Brisbane to NZ compared to Sydney around fifty and Melbourne fourteen. For 2024-25 there are six cruises from Brisbane to NZ, fifty five from Sydney and ten from Melbourne. It is difficult to include Brisbane in 'most cruises from Australia to NZ start in either Sydney or Brisbane'. Sydney has by far the majority of cruises from Aust to NZ, with Melbourne next and Brisbane bringing up the rear.
  22. From the BOM website - on past experiences with El Nino years, the first cyclone to make landfall is usually later than normal - so this is not a normal occurrence. In El Niño years, the first cyclone to make landfall on the Australian coast typically occurs later than normal, around the second week of January. This is compared to all years where the date of the first tropical cyclone to make landfall over Australia is typically in early January. The latest update from the BOM predicts that Cyclone Jasper (evidently named after my grandpuppy) is expected to make landfall north of Mackay.
  23. How old is this Victorian? Referring to dip to cool down is a saying I grew up with in Victoria, either in the pool, river or beach.
