  1. I'm getting the sort of feedback I was hoping for: 1. This particular cruise caught my attention primarily because of the itinerary - Dubai to Western Europe in April, 2025. There aren't that many options available to do that on cruise lines I'd like to use or try; 2. We are not high energy cruisers so 'serene and relaxing' appeals to us. As long as there is some evening entertainment of almost any type and a pool we're OK. 3. I understand the QA will be new to Cunard and a departure from their usual offering. I'm looking at an unobstructed view Brittania class cabin, probably on deck 5, forward. Is dining (breakfast, lunch and dinner) by reservation or can I simply show up and be seated? Is there a buffet dining area on Celebrity ships? 4. Is everything a-la-carte? By that I mean pay the cruise fare and separately purphase/pay gratuities, wi-fi and a drink package. We don't drink alcohol or much soft drinks; is there a suitable package for water/coffee/tea or am I just as well off to take what's offered onboard with the fare? 5. I don't mind dressing up a bit, including tuxedo, but would likely prefer to keep the mass of luggage to something I can easily haul around with me pre and post cruise. Will a dress jacket, tie and trousers do for pretty much evert0ything? 6. Does Cunard recognize loyalty levels from other cruise line? I doubt it, but would like to know in advance if they do.
  2. I'm contemplating booking the Queen Anne from Dubai to Hamburg in April 2025. I have never cruised with Cunard (Princess and Celebrity) and am looking for information on what I should expect. This thread doesn't seem to be the one I should be using and I would appreciate it if somebody could direct me to a more appropriateplace to learn more about the Cunard experience.
  3. I agree with you. Contactless is a great idea as long as it works. Using an American or Canadian ccredit card is still a bit risky... not entirely certain that the chip will be read. There are advantages/disadvantages to both means of payment. I use the Oyster Card and am entirely satisfied with that method.
  4. A variety of options: 1. Hoof it into the city centre and take 747 bus (lots of uphill walking and about $25 for two); 2. Hoof it part way into city centre, take subway then transfer to 747 (about $30 for two); 3. Take local bus 715 to connect with 747 bus (minimal walking but bus transfer required, about $30 for two); 4. Take a taxi from cruise port to YUL (no walking, no tranfers, no waiting for bus connections and minimal luggage handling - less than $50 for two). Just do it.
  5. I can tell you from experience that if you're having gall bladder problems, going on a cruise is a very bad idea.
  6. For NY State... Insurance Law § 2102 generally prohibits the sale of insurance without a license. According to Insurance Law § 2102(a)(1): No person, firm, association or corporation shall act as an insurance producer or insurance adjuster in this state without having authority to do so by virtue of a license issued and in force pursuant to the provisions of this chapter. Insurance Law § 2101(k), in turn, defines an "insurance producer" as "an insurance agent, insurance broker, reinsurance intermediary, excess line broker, or any other person required to be licensed under the laws of this state to sell, solicit or negotiate insurance." Thus, a cruise line or tour operator that acts as an insurance agent but is unlicensed as such runs afoul of Insurance Law § 2102. Nevertheless, a travel agent may apply for a limited license to act as an insurance agent with respect to travel insurance, pursuant to Insurance Law § 2103(g). That statute authorizes: a baggage or accident and health insurance agent's license to any ticket selling agent or representative of a railroad company, steamship company, carrier by air, or public bus carrier, who shall act thereunder as insurance agent only in reference to the issuance of baggage or accident insurance tickets primarily for the purpose of covering risk of travel.
  7. Presumably, you'll be stopping in a Canadian port prior to reaching Montreal (Saint John, Halifax, Carlottetown, Quebec). You'll clear Canadian Immigration and Customs on arrival at your first port of call and Montreal will not involve that bit of officialdom.
  8. Uh oh.... I'm getting some uneasy feelings about my Bulovar.
  9. OK. The second paragraph of your original post clearly inferred that the answer to your question would be part of the overall calculation of whether YOU want to take a cruise.
  10. I'd say it is unlikely that YOU will get sick. For sure, it's likely somebody will get sick but there are usually thousands of people on these ships and the individual chances are pretty low.
  11. Not controversial at all. Since Loft 19 is not restricted to adults only, they're perfectly entitled to be there and having some fun. You and Chris may want to reconsider the locations where you're going to enjoy that relaxing vibe you're seeking.
  12. Go on Amazon and get yourself a Tilley hat.
  13. I'm no expert on any of this but I believe it's the ship that's connected (or not, as the case may be) to Starlink and you are connected to the ship's internal service, either basic or premium depending what you plan to do. You won't be able to connect your phone directly to Starlink and your Verizon plan, while at sea, is not much use to you.
  14. Tickled pink (very pleased). Although I have no idea what a 'Cooper of the Day' is....
  15. Wouldn't work well for me; I'll need to assess everything on offer and two lines is likely to be too time consuming.
  16. I understand this does not answer your question, but you should reconsider that flight time... it's too early.
  17. 8184. Keep some distance from your cabin to the stairs/elevators/washrooms/transverse corridor.
  18. You'll get basic wi-fi for two devices i.e. each person in a double-occupied cabin can have their own account and access it using one device at a time. I've found it's perfectly adequate for e-mail and web surfing (checking the news). If you have no plans to stream movies, download lots of books or conduct video chat sessions I would not bother upgrading.
  19. Woke crowd?? You need to read and/or listen to some different 'news' sources.
  20. Why are you mixing in the daily gratuities with the cost of wi-fi? Is it just a segue into a 'nickle and diming' discussion? By the way, as noted earlier, you can connect as many devices to your account as you like... just one at a time though!
  21. Testing is not required. You will need (UK citizen) an ESTA to enter the US. You will be asked to complete an attestation that you are fully vaccinated. Bring your vaccination record in the unlikely event you are asked to show it.
  22. Just as a point of interest... Air Transat offers some bookings (ie. YUL-CDG) more than 365 days in advance... of course, that won't help much for an Alaska cruise!!
  23. You'll have to do it at the airport when you arrive there.
