Big Screen Lido Pool Koningsdam

We will be sailing on Nieuw Statendam and while I am looking forward to trying a new ship there are a few things that give me pause. One is the promenade deck, we will see just how much it may bother us as that is one of our favorite features of HAL ships. The other is the big screen at the Lido pool. I cannot stand the sound of a TV in the back round and the whole focus here seems to be the stupid screen. The chairs seem to all be set up to face it. My questions: is it loud? do they play things during the day? is it always on? Thanks for any info.

On the 3 cruises we have taken on the Koningsdam the TV was on most days but showing scenery type programming with low or no sound. When a movie is shown then the chairs are setup facing screen for viewing. We did not find it too loud.

We also take numerous walks on the promenade and prefer the wider teak promenades on the other HAL ships. This however would not stop us from sailing on either the Koningsdam or Nieuw Statendam.

When we were on an 18 day cruse on the Koningsdam, there was no sound on during the day when the screen showed nature pics. The movies were only shown in the evening, once the pool closed. That was when the chairs were set up facing the screen with head rests.

We were never Promenade deck chair sitters so the narrow deck did not bother me. We were still able to walk all the way around. The added features on that ship is what has us on the Nieuw Statendam next year.

Chairs faced the pool during the day and switched for the night movie towards the screen. Only a few movies shown during the day with pretty low sound. Nothing as loud as I found princess movies to be.

We will be on Koningsdam for the first time in March & we were wondering about that sound level .Thanks for your post :)

One reason I was concerned is that when we were docked at various places, other ships would be next to us and I could easily hear the audio from their screens! We vowed never to sail those lines. I am so pleased to know that just like in many other various ways, HAL is more discreet. Thanks everyone!

If you have cruised princess before I would say the outdoor promenade is very similar in width to the Grand class ships (grand, golden, star, caribbean, crown, emerald, ruby - sapphire and diamond are wider ships despite looking the same as their cousins) for princess as far as width goes. Most areas are adequate, some are narrow around the dining room.

There is a jogging track on the top deck around the magrodome. I attempted to run, but a lot of people were walking (one with a walker no less) even thought there were signs requesting folks not to do that when we went 2 years ago. Oh well, didn't ruin my vacation, i just went late at night instead

Not to say I dont watch princess movies while on board. I just dont prefer the noise when I want to sun tan and read a book

During Football (American) season, they did have games on. Not so loud that one couldn't still read or talk.

kenevenpar, you have been on Koningsdam during NFL season? Going to be on over Thanksgiving and curious about what if any NFL games i will be able to see? Do you think all 3 Thanksgiving day games will be on? How about the Sunday games, how do they handle that?

I can't speak about the regular season but in Jan 2018 they did have the playoff games on the big screen by the pool. We got off on Super Bowl Sunday so don't know about that either. We will for 2019 as we will be on for the Super Bowl. I am hoping that they have it on the super wide screen in the show room.

We were there over Thanksgiving last year! If my memory serves, we were in Curaco on Thanksgiving, and only watched a bit of one game. We were in DR on Sunday, so I'm not sure. I think that there were some college games on Saturday. You're straining my memory

I'm pretty sure there was a selection of games, and some at other locations (bar at the casino comes to mind).

The pool is closed during the movies? Wouldn't it be fun to watch the movie from the pool, though? Are the hot tubs closed then, too?

Anyone know the pool hours on the K'dam or should I start a new thread? Hmm, I'll go check 'search' someone has probably already asked that kinda question.

We are Promenade deck sitters and will be on the Koningsdam next month just to try out the new ship. On the Koningsdam is there a space that offers a shady place to sit with the ocean breeze like the Promenade decks offer? We spend lots of time reading, so quiet is good. We have our balcony, but that doesn't offer the breeze or the occasional conversation with a fellow passenger.

there are no seats on the Promenade deck as it is quite narrow.

We have found the best place to sit for fresh air and sunshine is above the aft 'seaview pool' on deck 10 (Panorama deck). It can be easily accessed from the Lido deck by going to the aft pool and taking the outside stairs up one deck. There is not much shelter up there. This means that the Seaview bar is close by in case of emergencies :halo:
