How Cool?

Recommended Posts

We have never cruised nor been in the Eastern Caribbean. We will be on FOS from June 6 to 13. I am pretty set on the clothes to bring, I understand that the dining room can be over air conditioned sometimes, but what about the rest of the ship including the outside areas? Will I need a wrap/sweater?

Thanks...getting really excited about our trip.:p

It's the wind...not the temperatures, that may chill you. If it's too windy at night, I just don't hang out by the railing...it's windiest there. I've never been too cold inside the ship...used to bring wraps, but no more.

I always take a lite weight sweater. I find a few areas around the ship to be chilly. And as someone said, it can be cooler/windy on deck and we like to take walks at night. They do sell wraps onboard in beautiful colors. Use to be $10. Think the $10 store is now $15.

The average low temp for St Thomas/St Maarten in June is close to 80, I doubt you'll need anything for the outside areas.

I always bring a jacket of some sort. After being in the sun all day, it always seems chilly in the dining room and for the night time show

Yes, the ship can feel quite cold after being in the sun all day. If I get a little burnt (it happens in the Caribbean, especially when you live in Michigan!), I tend to chill easier in the evenings.

It's back to $10 now..at least on the Majesty it was a couple weeks ago..I remember being surprised..I hadn't heard it had gone down...

Love those wraps they sell...I have 2..and have to really control myself not to buy one in each color...:D

Thanks to everyone for all your suggestions...I may be tempted to check out the wraps they sell onboard. I plan to take a lightweight sweater at least..I tend to get cold when I get tired...sitting here right now in the Chicago area, it is cool and rainy....hard to imagine the hot sun on my skin...wish we were leaving tomorrow!

I've never been cold inside the ship. In fact, in recent years, it seems that they've raised the thermostat onboard (to save money?) and the ships are often too warm.

Those $10 pashmina wraps are very pretty.

I usually bring a sweater or wrap for the evenings and during the day if we are planning to stay inside the ship, I have to wear a jacket. I find that I always get chilled in the promenade. If you plan to hang out in the casino for more than a few mins, you may want to bring a jacket for this area also.

Have a great time on the Freedom. She's such a beautiful ship and there's a ton of things to do. You definitely picked a great ship to go on your first cruise. I don't think it will be your last after you experience it. Also, if you plan to do any ice skating, make sure you bring long pants and you may want a light jacket for that also.

Don't forget to let us know how your trip was!

Is it too hot to go cruising the caribbean in June/July?? April would be great but due to schdules can make next April looking at next June/July. I assume going ashore will be very very hot but on ship does it get cooler(due to wind on sea days) so enjoying the pool isn't a heat stroke?? Also how much shade is on the private island COCO Cay?? thanks

It really depends on what you are use to. I am ALWAYS cold! We have central air in the house and never use it! I have to put a jacket on in summer when I go into stores. So yes when we did Caribbean in August I was freezing on the ship. I wore a shawl in the evenings when I was dressed up and usually had a zippered hoodie type jacket with me in the day time to walk through the ship (although I didn't need to wear it all the time). I know most people don't get as cold as I do but thought I'd throw in my opinion anyway :).
