I am not here to push Carnival. But I do think the Carnival Magic's 9-day Med itinerary certainly is better than what the NCL Epic is offering. NCL offers only an abbreviated day in Marseille (making a trip to Provence somewhat problematic). Also, Carnival has Messina for Sicily and Palma Mallorca for a nice beach day. But a real nice extra that Carvinal is doing is the extra hours in Rome (docks 7 am to 10pm). When you are going to spend $2K round trip just to get to the Med, I am not sure worrying about a couple $hundred in savings should be a major deciding factor.

I don't understand the point about freestyle dining. Carnival has anytime dining or whatever they are calling it. I agree that having that option is important for the Med where you are not back from ports until a bit later. The new ships also have a new upcharge ($15 fee) Italian restaurant to go with the steakhouse. Looks like John Heald will be providing more information on the Magic today on his blog. Could be interesting.

If any of you do wind up going on the Carnival Med itinerary, do yourself a favor and stay in Barcelona two or three days before your cruise. It's a great port.

Thanks, good info....well taken:cool:

This may be a cruise we are interested in. My daughter graduates high school in May 2012 and we were talking the other day about the possibility of a European cruise for her graduation. I'll have to wait and see the itinerary, can't wait for further updates.

But I have double, dd May, ds June! What fun!!

While sooner is great to know & be able to plan (or just decide!) it's not a huge problem to wait longer for prices. The cruise is a year and a half away - not like we have to rush to make arrangements!

BUT I wanna know NOW!!! Just kidding! :D

Hey, hows the weather up there in Seattle? Ive got a daughter at Seattle U and classes are starting late today.

Please keep me up to date on the cruise info and I will see if it's doable. It will be a great senior trip for DD and a fun time for me :)

Now I know some of you don't want to hear this!!! :(But my prices should be in on the N*L tomorrow, that would mean if it is too good to be true ( or almost) I will more than likely jump on it. If you like the N*L and are looking for a group you can jump over there and join me. If we don't like it we will hold out for Carnival. I can't say until I see some pricing.

I hope you know what I am doing with the N*L, we are not to name them on other boards, don't want to get Laura mad at us!!!!;)

So lets do some chatting!!!!

Hey, I want to know now too! Just afraid that the group cruise will be Norwegian - I want to try this line sometime but not for a major (at least for me) vacation like a Europe trip.

Anyway it's true that any day at sea is something to celebrate, I bet it will be a great cruise & a good experience no matter which cruise line it is.

Weather in seattle? Webbed feet would be helpful. We had a bit more snow than was anticipated tuesday night, & lots of rain since. I love the part of town Seattle U is in, very lively.

Well this is my lesson for the day - I was wondering why you were putting *s in that cruiiseline's name! I didn't think it was because it was some sort of off color word. :D

I've been around CC for a few years & on different boards, this is the first I've heard of that rule. :sigh: if someone slaps my hand here it won't be the first time.

Has our fearless leader jumped ship?

Looks that way. I don't think she'll be posting group prices for the Carnival Breeze in the Med on this thread.

I looked at pricing on the 7-day Epic in the Med versus the Magic's 9-day Med prices for similar dates this August. Carnival is giving me more days, better ports, more time in ports for less money (even with our booking a spa balcony cabin). We have no regrets about booking the Magic. The new amenities that they're adding to the Magic will probably be on the Breeze as well. Good luck in finding a new leader. I think we'll be back on a Europe cruise in 2012. But that will be British Isles on Princes and unfortunately be pretty expensive.

Ljberkow, I was looking at the wonderful itinerary for a British Isles / transatlantic on Princess a couple years ago. Would love to go on that but doubt it would be in my budget even next year, if they still have it.

I may wait until the transatlantic schedule is posted for the Breeze. Or just keep my eyes peeled for a Europe deal of some kind & hope if it's great I'd be able to get the time off. That's why I wish I could find out far in advance, if I need weeks off & someone else requests vacay during that time period before I do - I may not get approved.

kkmonga I know what you mean about the airfare. I was so lucky in finding a great cheap flight in 2009. Just booked round trip & ditched the flight back to london. That's part of why I've looked at celebrity & some of the other lines like azamara & cunard - there are deals offered from a large cruise travel agency that often include airfare. Or even just the cruise air dept at Celebrity can get you a fair deal, often still cheap even if you pay the extra to customize your flights.

British Isles is just my wife and I. We may actually be meeting up with friends we met on our first Med cruise this past summer on the Ruby Princess. So we'll save some on the kids not being on that one with us. It's also cheaper to fly to London than other places in Europe. But I see for this Summer that the cheapest balcony cabin on the Crown's 12-day British Isles is almost $3K per person. In comparison, our Carnival Magic Crown 9-day Med in a spa balcony cabin for four people is $5K total. There is no way we could afford a Med cruise for the family on Princess. But when we saw this Carnival itinerary at those prices, we thought it was perfect.

I am sure that OP will have a great time on her Epic Med cruise. But I really don't think it touches or comes close to Carnival's itinerary/price in the Med. I am especially excited to see Sicily and spend time in Provence in addition to the great ports in Italy, Spain, and Monaco. If nobody fills the void that OP left here in the group cruise tease, I hope many CCers take advantage of the Carnival Med itineraries and have great roll calls.

Good Morning , good to hear from all of you.:D

I have been a Group Leader for Cruise Critic a few times, I have never been to Europe and I plan for summer 2012 to be my first. I look forward to meeting everyone and hope this will be a great cruise, I will keep you posted, not a lot to do until pricing is posted, we can chat and get to know each other, I am so excited about an europe cruise and possiable

CC group cruise. I will get with Laura and Johna to be on the look out for some pricing...:)

Sorry Pugs but I will not be joining you and anyone else wishing to hitch their Dingy to your ship ( which ever you choose ). I would suggest others to avoid any group you are hosting.

So many people have such fond memories of that boat!! That was my first 7 night cruise, had done SeaEscape for the "cruise to nowhere" and the overnighter to the Bahamas prior to that.

I just love to cruise so whenever an opportunity comes up, I grab it!! :D
