Drinking Age

What is the drinking age on Carnival ships? We have two 18 yr olds that want to drink beer only, one is my daughter and the other is a friend that is going with her, she is 18 too. Do we need any type of forms from the parents saying it is alright for their daughter to drink?

They are going to be with us the entire time, not out of our sight, but just wondering what we have to do before the cruise in June on the Fantasy.

Carnival drinking age is 21. Off the ship depending on where you are it is probably 18 or old enough to walk to the bar. Paperwork won't help- no wavers on Carnival.

What if we get it for them?

Just a thought.....you know in Amsterdam, marijuana and prostitution are legal. Maybe you could take them there so they have even more fun. I mean, as long as they're with you.....

No flaming, just a warning. It is a good way to loose some of the abilities with YOUR "Sign N' Sail" card. If your are caught supplying alcohol to an under age Carnival guest (under 21), they can restrict your card to not be able to purchase any alcoholic beverages at all. Read last year of a group (family and friends) put off for not obeying Carnival contract.

You probably booked the wrong Cruiseline for under 21 drinkers - not allowed and there are no forms. They CAN ask for Photo ID. IF they were to catch you providing alcohol to under age and IF the cared to do anything about it, Carnival DOES state the right to put your party off the ship at a port, with no compensation, no pro-rated refund and no airline ticket home. ken

Do they look 16, 18, or 21?

My son was 20 at the time. Carnival security threatened to put me and him off the ship at the next port if I continued to supply him with beer.

No, we weren't drunk and sloppy.

Security saw him with a beer, asked for his ID and that was it.

Sorry,, quoted the wrong person. Meant to quote the person who asked "What if I buy beer for them?"

While I am probably the biggest "rule follower" around, and do not look kindly upon dd19 drinking, dh did let her share a funship special with him when we boarded. While we were in 4 ports where she could legally drink, she had a beer or 2 in those ports, and some mixed frozen drinks at Nachi Cocum while sitting with us- nothing off the wall. When we were in the ship's casino, the staff constantly came over to me (I had the free drink card on Dream, which I hardly made use of) and when I turned down a drink, they would ask her if she wanted one. Sometimes she had a beer, sometimes not. No one asked her age, no one carded her - she looks around 18-19 - no older. While I know she drinks at college, she is still not allowed to drink at our house - social host law. (yes, she goes to friend's houses to drink - most parents allow it) You can do as you feel fit as a parent - but just be aware that CCL can toss you off the ship at the next port, or put a stop for purchasing alcohol if they want.

I went on a cruise at 19 with my family. It was not with Carnival however, but Dolphin which no longer exists. I went to the club on board one night with a couple of guys that we shared a dinner table with. They tried to order me some drinks and the waiter would just smile, nod and bring me a non-alcoholic drink, lol. I even had some trouble getting served while we were in the Bahamas.

Here in Colorado a very little know part of the drinking laws allows us to buy a drink for our way underaged kids at a restaurant if we wish. One waiter we knew in a very nice restaurant kept offering our 16 year old a drink- and then explained this piece of law to us. He still didn't get the drink, but was rather pleased to know that he could have. He can take a sip or two of my silly drinks if he wants to, but is not really very interested in fact. The less I make of it the less he seems to care. Wonder how long this will last?

Geez, they asked a quetion, about their "Adult" offspring.

You're an Adult in the USA at 18, except to drink, gamble, um what else, oh yeah, book a cruise. But you an sure go to an adult jail. Plus, if your 18 - 23 and on your own, paying your college, housing, food, and even though your parents cannot claim you on their tax forms, you still have to enter your parents income information on your FAFTA.

So, let's look at Ansterdams 18-21 years olds. Got it, good.

To the OP, my DD was 18 on her first cruise. I bought her Alcohol if she wanted, no questions ask. Unlike those who were 18 and had parents who told them "don't drink" and/or sheltered them from reality, she never had the urge to get sloopy drunk.

As far as I know NCL is the only mainstream line that allows passangers 18-20 to purchase and consume beer and wine with parent or legal guardians permission. As others have said they can enjoy a drink or two whilst in Nassau. Enjoy your cruise.

I would suggest that you try typing "carnival cruise contract" into Google and reading the first hit. You will find out the answer to your question.
