Would you Zumba at sea??

Recommended Posts

Here's the response I got from RCI today! Yay!!!

"Thank you for your email. We apologize for the delay in our response.

Royal Caribbean International prides itself on having the most up-to-date fitness classes onboard. Regrettably, we are unable to tell you exactly when Zumba classes will begin. However, we share your enthusiasm and believe it will not be long before they are available onboard.

Thank you for choosing Royal Caribbean International. We hope to welcome you onboard soon."

nice!!!

I am a licensed Zumba Instructor and I emailed Royal Caribbean to ask if Zumba classes are offered.... I will be on Jewel of the Seas embarking from Boston on October 15th. They responded that I would need to check my cruise compass once on board to see what fitness classes will be offered, and that I could go to the "customer service" (I know that's probably not the correct term) desk to let them know I'd be interesting/willing to teach a class during the cruise. So I will bring my iPod just in case so that I'm ready! :)

I recently started taking Zumba & Jazzercise classes at my local gym..I LOVE the Zumba & it's GREAT excercise too loaded with high energy fun fun FUN ! normally I never would go to the gym or excercise during my cruise vacation but I would certainly do this if they had it :)

so I'm just wondering if others would be interested in it as well & hoping Royal Caribbean sees this & considers trying it out. I think it would become popular on the ships as it is very popular here where I'm from..and if you really think about it, it's just a little more than the line dancing they do up on deck at sailaway..high energy hip-hop kind of line dancing

Bring on Zumba !!

In a heartbeat! I love Zumba plus on days when you are sailing, it gives the wives another outlet while the men are in the casino :)

Thanks!! :) All I would need is some open floor space, and something to plug my iPod into since I won't be able to bring my usual sound system. Hopefully they can work with me on it, even if it's just one day later on in the cruise so that there is enough time to spread the word for interest first.

they should be able to do this in one of the lounges during the afternoons..one that usually has bands and dancing at night..I wish you luck & hope the fever spreads !

I wish I were on your cruise too!! Given the response here, I 'm sure you'll get people who attend your class if you can get them to post it. Good luck!!

As long as you can provide a CD of the music it should work. That was what was done on Princess.

I've decided I'm not going to push to teach a Zumba class on my October cruise on the Jewel. My regular Tues/Thurs class here at home wasn't too thrilled about the idea of just cancelling class that week, so I've found a sub...but the sub is going to need my radio and iPod, etc. So I think I'm going to just let it go. If something falls into place easily while on board, of course I'll gladly teach a few songs. But I guess it *is* vacation, so I'm not going to stress about whether or not it happens. I'll be on the cruise with my mom, so we'll just take some walks up on the jogging track to get some exercise in. :)

I am a licensed Zumba instructor sailing on the Oasis departing 2/11/2012. I am bringing my iPod and a sound system and plan on asking Guest Services for a room so I can shake my bonbon.

When I went on the Allure last year, all the reps over the phone gave me a line about contacting the fitness area blah blah blah. Guest services said I needed to ask the fitness people. The fitness people said they're not allowed to let others offer classes.

So, this year I'm just asking for a room ANYWHERE and I will get my Zumba on. Would be really nice if I could get the word out to other Zumba peeps and get a nice group going. With a ship as big as the Oasis, I am sure there are plenty of other instructors onboard, not to mention enthusiasts!!!! PM me if you are on this cruise!

As a side note, I am completely disappointed with RCI and their fitness offerings. Zumba has been the number one fitness craze for YEARS now and they still aren't even offering even one dance-type fitness class!!!! Last year they fed me the same line about "hopefully soon we'll have Zumba, blah blah blah" but they still don't have it and it's more than a year later! To me it shows that they don't care. One of the dancers I talked to on the ship last year said people are CONSTANTLY asking her about Zumba. So RCI knows people want it. I would pay to attend it!!!! And I get paid to teach it. There are so many Latin Fitness YouTube routines out there that one of their dancers could be up to speed and teaching a Zumba-like class in a matter of 2 weeks or less!!!!!

Love my Zumba and did a couple of classes on the Ruby Princess last month. It is true that the instructors make a big difference, but it is also true that an hour of zumba burns those extra calories no matter what. Loved having it - certainly with all the followers RCL will add it! (at no cost, btw)...

Not a good workout for me. Tried 5 different times, 5 different instructors. I never broke a sweat in any of the 5 classes. I'm a former triathlete, do spin 6x a week, do P90X and Insanity type workouts several times a week as well. I don't think I burned many calories in my Zumba attempts.

I prefer the shipboard triathelon myself:

1) Push up off of the lounger;

2) Run to the sky bar and get a bucket of beer;

3) Run back to lounger, then lift beers until exhausted

Repeat as often as the urge for exercise remains:D

Yeah those 12 ounce curls are quite exhausting. I have to agree. I have done them until I pass out. LOL

There was Zumba on Freedom of The Seas this past week. But they call it Latin Dance Aerobics in the cruise compass. They can't call it Zumba because of the licensing of the name, but that's what the Latin Dance Aerobics is. Hope this helps you ladies out.

I was looking at some Compasses someone posted a couple days ago and noticed something called "Latin dance exercize class" in the spa. Didn't say Zumba, but maybe a lot like it. I'm ready!:D OOPS didn't notice the above post....

They offered this on our Freedom cruise the first part of April, it was held pooside so there wasn't much room to move around. It was more of a line dance class, if you've never done Zumba you probably would enjoy it but for those experienced Zumba dancers, it did not look like it would be much of a workout. The good news is it was FREE!

So... where was this "Latin Dance Aerobic" class held? Hopefully, an air-conditioned lounge and not poolside.

Thank you
