Was This Really The Sane Cruise I Was On?

like you I was Carnival Magic when the Italian disaster happened, our safety meeting was the next day after leaving port. The ships Captain cam on the PA System and said Ladies and Gentle men we have lost on generator, but continue on our trip at half our speed. The safety meeting was like a circus, with 4,000 people crowded in the theater, the stewards were passing out drinks (alcohol) to the passengers. We waited in the heat at Galveston to board the ship without food or water for 2 hours, with red shirted Carnival employees pushing us to move faster, when the line in front you wasn't moving, the screamed when ask for water, All around me was 84 to 90 year olds with oxygen and wheel chairs. One red shirted lady was escorted by security, when she screams at elderly passenger and ship pas out. The whole trip was a nightmare, and we hadn't boarded yet.

We were on a 7 day cruise, and with only one generator, the a/c didn't work, elevators shut down, people in wheel chairs were tuck one floor, and couldn't get food or water.

The crew all spoke foreign languages and were rude and hateful.

The AG of the USA should investigate Carnival, and everyone should be reimbursed.

Amazing, somehow I don't think this was really the cruise I was on, and I was on this ship. Posted on MSN today. If the waiters would serve booze at the safety briefing I think we would all be scratching our heads.

Well, there are a lot of patently false statements there. I was not there, but even I know that not all 4000 passengers muster in one area (theater). They don't even want you to bring drinks, much less serve them. And was your muster drill the same day of sailing, or the next day as the posting says...How hot was it in Galveston the day you sailed...EM

I was there and the review is full of holes. We did have a generator that was repaired on the first stop Key West. As a result, we received an OBC and stayed in Nassau until 8pm. I would love to meet this reviewer and compare accurate notes.

Our cruise last month was dampened by a norovirus outbreak. But we still had a great time. A lot of folks writing here who were on the ship with us describe a totally different experience than what we had. Sure, there were a few disappointments, but we never let them ruin the whole cruise for us.

I know on NCL the bars close 30 minutes prior to the muster drill. I expect it's the same on CCL. My thoughts are the individual wants to draw attention to himself and maybe get something for nothing from CCL. I hope all that he gets is a life time ban from the line;).

All those waiters have specific duties relating to the muster drill and I am pretty sure it is not serving drinks. We have been to a few muster drills with Carnival and as other posters have stated they won't allow you to have a drink in your hand during it.

...and they DO close the bars 1/2 hour prior to the muster drill. At least they have on every cruise I've been on!

when real journalists would require two independant sources to validate any news story.

Today, news is anything that creates sensation....with or without validation.

#1 bars close...staff have to lock up liquor. Staff have safety jobs.

#2 theatre....holds 4,000, only if Elvis suddenly comes back to life to sing on stage

#3 The next time you buy into any "news" story, take a minute to think about if it even sounds credible.

To temper the Costa Condoria story. The crew did get 4,000 off the ship. The Captain may have fallen into a lifeboat, but those waiters, cabin stewards, entertainers, and staff got 4,000 off the ship. They deserve praise, not some wacko making up a story to get a headline.

To be fair, this wasn't the news story - this was a reader's comment in regard to the news story. Still. it's unfortunate that so much misinformation about the cruise industry is getting out there.

Whether the OP's post is true or not, some of the replies aren't logical. To say that the muster/safety drill on CCL Caribbean cruises must be similar to Costa Mediteranean is non logical. Apples to bananas.

Didn't posters get all upset when the media kept reporting the Concordia as a CCL vessel, instead of a Costa ship? Can't have it both ways.

What a bunch of baloney! I've cruised on the Magic and can't wait to board her again in April. The sad thing is, people who have never cruised before will read and remember this nonsense as "truth", allowing this to over rule the more factual, honest reviews & comments about cruising.

FOLKS this was posted on MSNBC. Do you really think it would be credible?

The article was very credible, the comments not so much. Did you know this was someone's comment? I just read some of those comments and they are full of misinformation, don't blame MSNBC, which by the way I find very credible.

I don't think that is necessarily true. Every muster drill I've been at, there were people with drinks, and the evidence is left at the commencement of the drill with empty containers and glasses littered about on the floor and railings. I know drinks are not allowed during Muster, so I make it a point to not have a drink after my lunch DOD until muster is over. Just because some people follow or listen to the rules doesn't mean everyone does and drinks do get by staff conducting the muster drills

Hard enough to understand what this person was trying to say with all the errors, but first all the crap about drinks being served @ muster, old people with no food and/or water, but then he says the trip was a nightmare and they hadn't even boarded yet?   Were they on the ship or not the NEXT day when muster was supposed to have happened? I don't get it.

Do you think they can police that many people sometimes standing three to four rows deep?? I have witnessed cruise staff making passengers get rid of drinks and/or ask them to return them to their cabins at several muster drills or on the way to the drill.

The point is it isn't the staff serving drinks at a muster drill because your not supposed to even have a drink at that time to begin with...

Take care,

Vinnie
