Who told you that? As far as I know, Princess has not changed their age restriction from the minimum 21 y/o for purchase or consumption anywhere on the ship. There is not (or that is, there has not been to my knowledge) an exception for meals at any venue.

I agree, on Princess, the drinking age is 21. Purchasing drinks for passengers under 21 can result in the purchaser being put off the ship at the next port.

I can not answer for Princess but I do know that NCL allows someone over 18 but under 21 to drink if they are in international waters or waters of countries that the drinking age is 18 (exp. Bahamas) if their parent or legal guardian is on the ship and they sign a waiver.

 

Depending on where you are going, the drinking age in many countries is 18 and your 20 year old can have a drink on land.

Are you on a European itinerary? Some cruiselines allow 18-20 year olds drink wine or beer on European or South American itineraries if the parents are onboard and sign a waiver. So, your question is a legitimate one.

 

It does not appear that Princess allows this.

The legal drinking age of 21 years is always observed onboard and proof of age may be required. All onboard staff are trained to take their responsibility to not serve alcohol to underage passengers seriously. The age restrictions are clearly posted in the bars.

 

Entry into the disco is limited to passengers 18 years and older. However, be sure to check with the child and teen centers for special disco events designed just for kids. Children under the age of 18 are welcome in the gymnasium, spa and jacuzzi; and also in the evening entertainment show lounges when accompanied by a parent or guardian.

 

In line with domestic age limits, as well as Princess' company policy, the casino is reserved for passengers 21 years and older. Additionally, only those passengers 21 years and older will be allowed to purchase or consume alcohol. For those whose age is questionable, picture identification may be requested.

Nope. They are not allowed to drink anything unless they are 21.

As already stated, no, your grandaughter won't be allowed to drink, and you won't be able to purchase drinks for her.

 

She can drink off the ship, but not onboard.

You don't mention where you are sailing. However, if you are on a European cruise then the drinking age on princess is 18. Your daughter will be allowed to purchase her own drinks, you will not have to buy them and you do not have to be with her.

 

If on an American itinerary then the age is 21.

The OP is sailing with Princess, not RCI

Sorry, not true. Princess doesn't allow drinking for any passengers under the age of 21 in the Med, where it appears OP is sailing. As already correctly posted:

Strange then that the Princess UK site says 18 for European cruises.

So on our cruise leaving from Rome (Civitevecchia) my 18 year old Grandson can have an occassional drink without the signed waiver (on RCI)? We didn't have a problem with signing the waiver, just wondered if this is now not necessary if we are American but leaving from a European port.

Yes, if the ship is home porting in a country where the adult age is 18, which is Europe, and much of the rest of the cruising world, but not N. America. An adult cannot have a legal guardian, as this forum pointed out, and RCI stopped this request this month.

Just giving some general added info for anyone looking for the answer to this for RCI..which some one might be..RCI's new policy when we recently (August) sailed out of Barcelona to the western med...No signed waiver necessary any longer.

I wonder, then, if this ruling will apply to other Princess ships out of the UK? ....I believe there's Caribbean Princess this year?
