Taxi Fares

Recommended Posts

Anybody know the cost of a taxi from the port of Livorno into Livorno town centre please ? Would it be cheaper than the average cost of 3 shuttle bus tickets?

It will be difficult to talk a taxi driver into driving you to the town center (e.g., train station) during the morning rush. They will be looking for a more profitable run to Florence and such.

The Livorno shuttle bus is run by the port and not by the ship, so you pay the fare directly to the conductor/driver. It was €5, two years ago. RCI allows you to pay by cruise card- presumably the equal of €5 in $$.

This point was made to us quite strongly on a P&O cruise, which provides free shuttle buses at all other ports, in case we thought we were being given wrong information! ;)

Amazing. The OP asks a relatively simple question and gets all kinds of posts without anyone answering his/her question :). A taxi from the Port of Livorno into town (either the center or to the train station) will normally cost about 20 Euros (some will ask for 25) for a taxi that can carry up to 4 (its tight in the back). A return taxi is usually a bit cheaper (perhaps 15 Euros). One problem at the pier is that many of the taxis do not want to take the short haul fares (they want full day fares) so you need to be off the ship early and asseertively ask for a taxi for the local run. We have always gotten a taxi...although sometimes you might have to wait a few minutes for a taxi that will do that short run. If you get off the ship a bit later (say an hour after docking) it might be hard to find a taxi for the short haul. The shuttle buses run by most of the cruise ships will take you into the center of Livorno (still quite a distance from the train station) and might actually cost as much (or more) then a taxi since some of the cruise lines now charge as much as $10. Another problem with the shuttle bus is that for those wanting to get an early train they might find that the first shuttle bus does not even leave the pier until around 8:30 (by which time we would all ready be on a train going to Florence or other places).
