Sewing Clothes For A Cruise

Recommended Posts

I don't know how to post pictures either. I usually send them to a friend who then posts them for me. :o

I got a couple of things cut out today in addition to starting the walking program my surgeon required me to start for PT. Hopefully, I will feel OK tomorrow. BTW, I'm not allowed to drive for at least a couple of weeks. It depends on how well I do in the walking program.

I see the surgeon again on Jan. 13th. We're supposed to visit our son, DIL, granddaughter and brand new grandson in Texas starting the 18th (he's due Jan. 9th) but I don't know if the Dr. will let me fly at that time. We might have to move the trip but I really hope not.

Just take it one day at a time. The main thing is to heal up. What pattern number are your going to cut out?

Aren't grands the best? My newest one is about two weeks old. Cute as a button (but I'm not biased)

They are!! :D I just wish that mine weren't so far away. I'm very thankful for Skype and the ability to "see" them every week. You wouldn't be a very good grandma if you weren't biased. ;)

I already have patterns purchased for my next cruise (2015) and will have a seamstress friend make them. She's much faster and can custom-fit better than I can. Since I will be finishing up my degree about a month before the cruise, I'll let her sew for me.

Must be nice to have someone else do the work part for you. ;) I do like sewing but I've always wished for a machine that would take the pattern, the material and my measurements to spit out the article of clothing. I want to decrease the time between the purchase and the end results. :D

I was able to walk a bit further today (on a tread climber). I'm taking the increases pretty slowly so that I don't over do it.

I only cut out one dress today. All of my materials and patterns are down stairs and I'm up stairs at the moment. I'll post the pattern numbers and describe the fabrics tomorrow.

BTW, my name is Trish and we live South of Seattle. May I have your first names and where you live?

Hi Trish,

I am Maria and I live near Rochester. So Far I have made skirt and pants ( with elastic waist bands). I need practice to do zippers. That top was my first.

I plan to do another for formal night.

I'm (slowly) working on the following patterns:

http://butterick.mccall.com/b5869-products-44947.php?page_id=678&search_control=display&list=search

This is for my granddaughter. The pjs are white flannel with pink and black kitties. The bath robe is from a bright pink fleece. She selected the fabrics herself last July, at 20 months old. She knows what she likes and it's almost always pink.

http://www.simplicity.com/p-8194-misses-mens-lounge-wear.aspx

I'm making fleece Seahawks pants and a shirt for my DH. I'm also making myself a dress from a light peachie color.

http://www.simplicity.com/p-8869-misses-plus-size-knit-dress.aspx

I pinned this today and will cut it out tomorrow. I'm making dress D from a deep purple that has tiny rhinestones is small bunches spread out over the fabric.

I'm not sure which one I'll cut out next but I have fabric in a bright red and a periwinkle to make formal dresses plus bow ties and cummberbunds for DH.

http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m4321-products-5972.php?page_id=103&search_control=display&list=search

I made the black vest and bow tie about a year ago.

http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m6508-products-16290.php?page_id=108&search_control=display&list=search

I'm going to make 2 differents styles from this pattern.

I'm also going to make this pattern from more than one fabric. One is dress A in a blue batik with swordfish. The other is dress B out of two red fabrics.

http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m6605-products-22998.php?page_id=483&search_control=display&list=search

For this pattern I have a white with red, green, yellow and black (maybe more) in large brush strokes and a cream with blue flowers. These are for work and casual dinners.

http://www.simplicity.com/p-5000-misses-special-occasion-dresses.aspx

I'll be making this dress out of a print with black satin straps.

http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/v8761-products-14731.php?page_id=4450&search_control=display&list=search

I'm planning on making the large bag out of gray fabric with large black roses.

This will take me several months but at least I'm off work for the next 5 weeks and can get a few things done in that time.

WOW! Great Patterns. You really are a great sewer. The dresses would be great on a cruise. I love the girl's PJ's. Very cute. The man's vest is nice. It could be worn with a tux. Do you but your patterns when on sale in Joann's?

Do you have Joann's where you live?

Thanks! I have been sewing a really long time.

I buy my patterns when I need them so sometimes I happen to hit a sale but not often. Patterns are so expensive! Some of those were over $10. That's one of the reasons that I try to reuse the patterns, to help make them more cost effective.

There is a JoAnn's near a mall that is only 10 - 15 minutes from me. There is also another one about that far from my work which is nearly 20 miles from our home. I usually go to the one near home because it's not too far out of my way home.

Most recently, I bought this boat load of fabric from Pacific Fabrics. They only have one location that is pretty near Seattle, about 20 minutes away. They have so really great fabrics and great notions. It was the only place that I could find the hardware for the bow ties.

I get my patterns from Joann's when they are on sale for $1.99 or $0.99. Like you said they cost too much. I reused patterns too. When I find something that I like I will do it again.

I made the black vest and bow tie out of camo fabric for my hubby. He loves it and wears it on every cruise we go on. He keeps asking for a day-glow orange one.

I'm Christy and I start projects and don't finish them.

I know the feeling of starting a project and not finishing. I have maybe three sewing/craft project that need to be finished up. The clothes sewing I finish, because I want to wear them for my cruise. The one thing I do that I really don't like to do is my husbands long sleeve shirt that need to be take up in the sleeve. I but I do them.:(

I usually finish what I start in sewing projects also because I want to wear them. I did lay out a blouse one time that I didn't get made before I gained some weight. I knew that it would be too small. I think that I still have it around here somewhere.

Fabric (For everything but the collar) The Collar is a black and gold tiny pattern. I can't find it on Joann's web site.

I am doing the shorter top.

I have a little fabric left over. What kind of purse could I make to go with the top?

Candy Crush is a game you can download to your phone or tablet. It's very addictive. So if you start playing, you might forget all about your sewing. ;)

I bought some lining fabric for the purple dress. When I realized how thin the fabric was, I decided to line the skirt so that I didn't need to worry about a long slip.

I think a simple envelope clutch would be good with that top. You could add a long strap (braid perhaps?) if you want to be hands free.

I received a puzzle for Christmas and our daughter was home for a couple of days. She and I spent several hours yesterday on it, of course on my material cutting table. I worked on it for a few hours today but I need to finish it before I can get back to my fabric. I'm hoping that my DH and I can finish it this evening.

It was funny, I thought Candy Crush was something to eat! I hope your puzzle get finished so you can use your cutting table again.

How is your back feeling?

My back and neck are doing quite well. I'm scheduled to return to work on Jan. 27th. Hopefully, the Dr. will let me go to Texas to meet our new grandson before that. He's due on the 9th.

We did finish the puzzle last evening but I haven't worked on any fabric yet today. (Need to get through my CC threads first. :D )

I have several things cut out and quite a few more to cut out but I haven't started sewing anything yet. I do want to get the granddaughter's pjs and robe done before we go to Texas on the 18th. So I might have to start sewing before I get everything cut out but I would prefer to have everything ready to sew at the same time.

I'm working on a simple satin-banded baby blanket for my newest granddaughter. Struggling with how to fold the corners. I need to look at one to see how it's done.

Maybe this might help.

I am just finishing my two Asian tops. All most all done. I will wear them on formal night.

I finished cutting out another formal dress yesterday and started cutting out one of the sundresses. I have a couple of Dr. appointments today so may not get it finished until tomorrow.

I have 2 sundresses, 2 formal dresses, 2 tie and cummberbund sets and a tote bag yet to cut out. Then I'll start sewing. I've been marking as I go but will still need to cut out the interfacing for each piece when I get to it.
