It must have look very nice. I brought a pair of the pants a could of years ago in St. Martin. I just love them.
JanineM Posted January 4, 2014 #152 Share Posted January 4, 2014 You are all getting me motivated to sew! DH finished his home project (well, this one) last weekend & we had new carpet installed on Monday. So once I put away the Christmas stuff, get the groceries & throw in a load of laundry, I'm ready to start cutting! We're expecting colder weather for the next several days, so I am hoping that I can finish my skirt & make a jacket on the serger. Happy weekend! TNGALOHA Posted January 4, 2014 #153 Share Posted January 4, 2014 We had a Hobby Lobby in Cheyenne Wyoming when we lived there but we don't have any here in Yuma and yes they are very addicting! Almost as bad as sewing and cruising.
TNGALOHA Posted January 4, 2014 #154 Share Posted January 4, 2014 Gerry, How was the fit and were the pants above the ankle? It must have look very nice. I brought a pair of the pants a could of years ago in St. Martin. I just love them. The fit was really nice. What I liked about it was that I could have the ties tighter if I wanted or in my case the ties could go looser towards the end of the cruise. They did hit right below my ankles so it was ok. The next ones I will make them just a little longer.

They are a great pants for a warm weather cruise. Edited January 4, 2014 by geocruiser

The red and short dress look nice. I not a big fan of the neck line on me. but I have seen others wear it and it looks nice. I like the slender style of the dress. I don't have much waist so I couldn't pull it off but I think that it's beautiful.
Rare mom says Posted January 5, 2014 #167 Share Posted January 5, 2014 I love the look of that dress too. But you would really need the right figure to pull it off. Unfortunately, I don't have what it takes (too short and "fluffy). Not a fan of trains, either, but that's easily omitted.
JanineM Posted January 5, 2014 #168 Share Posted January 5, 2014 I love that dress - just like Pippa's maid of honour dress :) I'd wear it in a heartbeat if I was a bit slimmer. Depending on your shape, it would be lovely. The neckline is really elegant. What fabric are your thinking of? It will need to be something that drapes well. Crepe or satin? Hey what do you ladies think of this dress? http://butterick.mccall.com/b5710-products-14906.php?page_id=152 Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk I just took another look at the dress. I did not see the back of it before. I like the lines of the back too. I looked a the sleeve and it look like they put some trim on the bottom of the sleeve. I like the idea of the trim. You can see the trim if you look at the back view. Edited January 5, 2014 by geocruiser
alowderphoto Posted January 6, 2014 #170 Share Posted January 6, 2014 I would likely forgo the train. I'm currently on my way to being my "old self" from before the babies. I'm not doing too bad so far so I think having a dress like this would be a nice reward. I originality wanted something with a chiffon overlay but I just can't find the right pattern. What fabric would y'all recommend? Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk

How about this fabric. http://www.joann.com/stretch-satin/xprd757824.html#prefn1=isProject&start=8&sz=90&prefv1=false It comes in many colors. It does have stretch in it. I don't know if the pattern call for a stretch . But I think the stretch would not wrinkle as much. Do you do a wrinkle test before you buy Fabric? KeyOfSea Posted January 7, 2014 #173 Share Posted January 7, 2014 I believe the wrinkle test involves scrunching the fabric into your hand and holding it for a moment. When you let go, are there wrinkles or do they fall out? I finally started sewing my granddaughter's pj's today and the light on my regular machine burned out. So now I need to take it to get changed - DH and I couldn't get the old bulb out. So I have some running around to do tomorrow. What will I do when I have to go back to work?
Rare mom says Posted January 7, 2014 #174 Share Posted January 7, 2014 I have a question for all of you experienced clothing sewers. I want to make a maxi dress for our next cruise from some beautiful batik cotton that I bought in St. Kitts. But the pattern that I really like best (http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m6073-products-10884.php?page_id=101 ) states that it is for stretch knits only. The pattern does call for elastic, though. I'm assuming that it goes in at the waist. Do you think I could still make this dress in a cotton fabric by modifying the existing pattern? This is the other pattern I've been contemplating. Same problem- recommended for knits only- http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m5893-products-10130.php?page_id=
