Sewing Clothes For A Cruise

Recommended Posts

Thanks, Geo, but how do I convert that to a folded bias satin banding? I was hoping to just run one stitch all the way around.

I wish that I knew. I don't quilt (too many pieces). So I am not sure that I am posting info that might help. But here is another one.

I found this too. The link is to page 9. To get to the next page scroll down to the bottom of the page beyond the blank space.

This one actually makes sense! I'll try it tomorrow. Maybe. Depends on whether or not my flu-ridden DH annoys me...

So glad I found this thread! I've been thinking about sewing some stuff for our first cruise in May but I have no idea where to start. I'd probably want to make some nice flowing maxi dresses/skirts. Anyone had any luck finding some good patterns for these?

These are the patterns that I'm using - maybe you will like one of them. Happy sewing!

I'm (slowly) working on the following patterns:

http://butterick.mccall.com/b5869-products-44947.php?page_id=678&search_control=display&list=search

This is for my granddaughter. The pjs are white flannel with pink and black kitties. The bath robe is from a bright pink fleece. She selected the fabrics herself last July, at 20 months old. She knows what she likes and it's almost always pink.

http://www.simplicity.com/p-8194-misses-mens-lounge-wear.aspx

I'm making fleece Seahawks pants and a shirt for my DH. I'm also making myself a dress from a light peachie color.

http://www.simplicity.com/p-8869-misses-plus-size-knit-dress.aspx

I pinned this today and will cut it out tomorrow. I'm making dress D from a deep purple that has tiny rhinestones is small bunches spread out over the fabric.

I'm not sure which one I'll cut out next but I have fabric in a bright red and a periwinkle to make formal dresses plus bow ties and cummberbunds for DH.

http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m4321-products-5972.php?page_id=103&search_control=display&list=search

I made the black vest and bow tie about a year ago.

http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m6508-products-16290.php?page_id=108&search_control=display&list=search

I'm going to make 2 differents styles from this pattern.

I'm also going to make this pattern from more than one fabric. One is dress A in a blue batik with swordfish. The other is dress B out of two red fabrics.

http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m6605-products-22998.php?page_id=483&search_control=display&list=search

For this pattern I have a white with red, green, yellow and black (maybe more) in large brush strokes and a cream with blue flowers. These are for work and casual dinners.

http://www.simplicity.com/p-5000-misses-special-occasion-dresses.aspx

I'll be making this dress out of a print with black satin straps.

http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/v8761-products-14731.php?page_id=4450&search_control=display&list=search

I'm planning on making the large bag out of gray fabric with large black roses.on

This will take me several months but at least I'm off work for the next 5 weeks and can get a few things done in that time.

I've decided to start sewing before I complete cutting out all of the items. I have the red and perwinkle dresses, bow ties and cummberbunds left to cut out. I also haven't cut out the bag. I have plenty to sew and I need to finish the pjs and robe before we leave on the 18th.

Welcome to the thread. Flowing dresses and skirts are a great idea for warm weather cruise clothes

KeyOfSea,

I am take your lead and cutting things out. I cut three pairs of pants for my cruise. This is the pattern. I will just put a rectangle pocket on both legs.

I think it's pretty too, but do you think it would be a little... odd for me to show up to dinner in the titanic dress? Our would anyone know if I did it different colors?

I am in my very early sixties. I say "what the point in growing up":)! I do wear some crazy thing in the way of fabric.

I am a left over 1960's child who is a parrot head.

Lol I like you! This look comfy. I'm 24 and my husband and I are going on our first cruise...first vacation actually since we got married. It will be our 6th anniversary on the cruise so I want to wear something special but being poor youngins I can't afford to buy a bunch of beach appropriate clothes and a formal dress so I'd like to see if I can make some of them for less.

Do you have Joann's fabric near you. You can use their 40% off coupon for some of their fabric. You will love being ona ship. What part of the world are you sailing too?

Here is a quick pattern for you. No zipper!

Oh yeah I do! I have to stay away so I don't spend money! Lol and I'm a coupon junkie at Joanns. They accept the hobby lobby coupon too so I'm always using several.

I didn't know that Joanns took Hobby Lobby coupons. Now I'm in trouble!!! :eek:I don't shop in Joann's unless I have a coupon to give them.:)

What part of Arizona are you in? We don't have a Hobby Lobby here in Yuma so I was just deleting all of my emails from them. Now I will have to print the coupons.

Geocruiser, the pattern you posted I made in a really pretty teal satin and made a jacket to match for an informal night. It turned out really cute.

Have a great time sewing ladies,

Gerry

Hi Gerry, both Hobby Lobby and JoAnn's have apps for smart phones. You can just pull up the coupon on the app at the store and they will scan it. No need for paper coupons, which is good since I always forget them. Michael's also has an app with coupons.

I posted a couple of patterns. Is it 4192? If not which one did you make? You can also get Joann's coupons online at joanns.com

Lisa,

I have seen people using the smart phone to show their coupons. I still use paper because I have a dumb phone.

They'll take Michael's too but only if you're not getting fabric our anything by the yard. Maybe not seeing notions either. Reason being Michael's doesn't sell those.

I'm in mesa. We recently got a hobby lobby within the last couple years right near me. THAT is an addicting store
