funfamilyof6 Posted October 7, 2012 #26 Share Posted October 7, 2012 Funfamilyof6 What great cruises you've been on. Some of my all time favourite ships - Disney Magic, RCCL Freedom & Explorer. Roll on many more great cruises :-) The same to you!!! :) Say hi to the Indy for me.
F27TW Posted October 7, 2012 #27 Share Posted October 7, 2012 Cheating on RCL with Carnival? That's like cheating on your spouse with a skanky common street walker.......should have picked a little more classy if you're going to stray........;) And your remark was VERY classy.
F27TW Posted October 7, 2012 #28 Share Posted October 7, 2012 You know, on the other hand, some people could also say that the RCI ships are all look-alikes inside. The same colors in the corridors and cabins (the tired muted turquiose, beige and weird green). Same cabin furniture from one ship to the next. Same "Schooner", same "Bolero's" on every ship. All the atriums look the same (that polished "gold" and parquet flooring), the dining rooms with those columns covered in the white curtains, all the Windjammers that look exactly the same. Don't make fun of Carnival for trying something different! RC is very cookie cutter with their interior decor.
Coralc Posted October 7, 2012 #29 Share Posted October 7, 2012 But they don't look morbid. :D Royal Caribbean's decor reminds me of IKEA, but it's pleasant. :)
gcvt Posted October 7, 2012 #30 Share Posted October 7, 2012 Wow! Pictures really are worth...well, you know. I gotta say, the pictures of the dimly lit lobby and casino weren't the ones that hit me. The one that hit me was the picture of the lounge. Holy crap!

Wilda Posted October 7, 2012 #32 Share Posted October 7, 2012 My first cruise was a 3 or 4 night trip on Carnival with my daughter. The decor was tacky neon..everywhere! We joked about it at the time. She has since been on a few RCI cruises with us and loves the Indy! I won't book another Carnival cruise...but hey, different strokes for different folks! bplazo Posted October 7, 2012 #33 Share Posted October 7, 2012 Don't try to act like to much of a snob, it doesn't work. It's like the Kmart people making fun of the Walmart people for being low class. Or like the Chevy drivers laughing at the Ford drivers. There really is not too much of a difference.... Gosh, I agree with you. We went our first Carnival cruise in May and I really did not have high expectations, however it was a great cruise and ship (Elation) and I did not see much difference from Royal. I would sail Carnival again.
clarkg Posted October 7, 2012 #34 Share Posted October 7, 2012 It's funny, I was just reading the NCL Board and they had a person who was posting from a Carnival ship about how awful it was. Then I come to this board and find the same thing. I have taken 20 cruises on 5 different cruise lines, but I have never cruised on Carnival. I keep hearing the same thing over and over again from other people about how bad it is. I had a friend call us from a Carnival cruise and tell us never to do Carnival. I have considered doing a cruise on CCL, but when I looked at the interior pictures, it looked more like a circus sideshow than a cruise ship. I guess it's all about taste and I may eventually try it, but for now, I will spend my cruise dollars on lines I know I love.
littlesteelo Posted October 7, 2012 #35 Share Posted October 7, 2012 The decor is the reason why if I ever set foot on a Carnival ship, it will only be the Breeze, or any subsequent ship. The post-Farcus Carnival is actually really nice.
shippmates Posted October 7, 2012 #36 Share Posted October 7, 2012 We have sailed many different lines from Celebrity to Carnival. We did the Pride last year and it was one of our best cruises for quiet and service. We totally enjoyed the adult only section. We have never had this happen before but while playing cards, the Maitre D asked how are cruise was and I ask him when they served calamari. He said they only serve it at lunch. Low and behold when we went to dinner that night we had two orders of calamari. In comparison our last cruise on Enchantment, we went to the dining room for dinner on the first night. We were seated at a table for 6 which they turned into a table for 7. This has never happened before and tables are crowded anyway and then to add another person made it even worse. We are trying Explorer next month to give RCL another chance to make amends and change our opinion of them. We are going with an open mind and hope we are not disappointed again. It is good we all have different lines to cruise on. Happy Sailing

Room Service! Posted October 7, 2012 #38 Share Posted October 7, 2012 We'll be going on the Pride for the 3rd time at the end of the month. :) We've done RC 3 times also. I would never say' never again' to any line. As long as they have balconies, it's good. ;) They are more alike than different. IMO Yes we've liked some things better on this line or that, but isn't that with everything? I don't think the Pride is all that dark. Once we are on the ship awhile. we really don't notice the decor. The day that the decorating makes or breaks my cruise ... well ... that ain't happening, but we all have our opinions, and that's okay. ;) (Some of you are going to trip, you have your noses so high in the air. You do realize that cruisers of other lines are looking down on, and mocking you? Check yourself)

dmwnc1959 Posted October 7, 2012 #40 Share Posted October 7, 2012 I'll be the first to say it but the OP's pictures are pretty awful, and it really wasn't just because of the ship (which I have been on and enjoyed thoroughly). The OP's pictures are awful because of either really poor photographic skills (overexposed pointing into bright light) or they chose the worst ones they could pull from their inventory to prove a point. Carnival Pride atrium Compared to the OP's picture Another picture from a flikr account We all have different expectations and different experiences. Like I said before I have been on Carnival and am Platinum with them. But I have also been on Cunard, Holland-America, Princess, Celebrity, and RCI. All were different, all were great, and all were not cookie cutter experiences, more so with Carnival. I wouldn't NOT cruise Carnival based off of a couple of 'Loyal to Royal' reviews and a set of really bad pictures. .

dmwnc1959 Posted October 7, 2012 #44 Share Posted October 7, 2012 dmwnc1959 - Thank you. That does look more like the Pride that I know. ;) You're welcome. She is a nice ship. It's a shame that some will take away a bad opinion of her based off this thread. But how easy is it to stereotype a cruise line based off of slanted reviews and bad pictures. If that were the case I would never sail Enchantment of the Seas (and by process of elimination RCI) due to all the reviews I have read that mentioned sewage smells in the halls, horrible food, and cigarette smoke in the atrium drifting out from Bolero's. RCI is not the shining beacon of the cruise industry. Only among those who Loyal to Royal. But there are a LOT more people over on the Carnival Forum that are quite happy and content with that product which has routinely beat RCI in food quality, entertainment, clean ships, and service. . dmwnc1959 Posted October 7, 2012 #45 Share Posted October 7, 2012 Still hideous And I have heard generalizations of RCI in that it is basically bland, uninspiring, and cookie cutter. Up until recently the RCI Forum here at Cruise Critic was littered with threads of horrible food, horrible desserts, bad customer service, cut back in amenities and loyalty program restructuring, etc. Only with the introduction of the new menus in September has RCI decided to step up its game. It looks like they are trying to play catch up with Carnival, Princess, and Celebrity. .
allie3490 Posted October 7, 2012 #46 Share Posted October 7, 2012 I just had 2 of my co workers come off this ship (separate sailings) and they all had a great time! I would take these bad reviews with a tiny grain of salt.
Rare BillOh Posted October 7, 2012 #47 Share Posted October 7, 2012 Still hideous I was going to say it looked better dark! ;) But seriously, if someone gave me a free cruise on Carnival, I'd go. I might research to find the ship I might like best. I probably would have went on a Carnival cruise in 2010 had my brother in law not died. Still I ented all the contest trying to win any free cruise.

grand isle joe Posted October 7, 2012 #49 Share Posted October 7, 2012 Speaking about "hideous" on T.V. this morning it was said today is the 25th anniversary of The Princess Bride movie. I guess something that was hideous can become a "classic". So there is hope for some Carnival ships......25 years in the future.....or not......:D
jimbri Posted October 7, 2012 #50 Share Posted October 7, 2012 dmwnc1959, thanks for posting the pictures. I've been on 3 Carnival cruises and the decor is a little over the top but we had a great time on each one.
