What to do in early morning hours (2-5 AM)?

So If you fall asleep in a lounge chair, the crew will clean you as well as the deck?

Ohhh my goodness, and that's how rumors get started! I'm sorry for the ommission...It was supposed to say "crew cleaning AND a pax sleeping". Lol

It was quite hysterical, though, because I ran after a ball about 30 feet away, and a bulge moved! We had no idea someone was there! I guess we know how that pax felt about the Princess mattresses!! :D

We sometimes take 4-5 or more international trips a year and have long since learned that the best thing to do is just adjust to local time ASAP so you can enjoy your trip. Even as infants our children learned to almost immediately adjust to time zones as long as we kept to the local time schedule where ever we traveled.

Some of you have mentioned 'internet'? When I was on the Royal Caribbean, our room was close to the Internet center and there was never any line-up. In fact it was hardly ever close to half full.

Unless you mean faster Internet since no one else is using it.

On Alaska and West Coast cruises, I am up early like that, due to time zone changes. It is a great time to see the stars and planets from the very top decks. If it is cloudy, There can still be amazing things to see at night. I love viewing passing ships, with binoculars, at that time.

I agree with Paul about the scenery when arriving in port early.

It is a great time to walk the upper decks without getting sunburned (a real concern for those of us with Viking genes:)

I agree that the Internet is great at that time. I like checking the baseball scores, at that time.

Crew members are kind and considerate if they find you sound asleep in a deck chair:)

Bon nuit :)

Yes, faster. It is much, much better at 4am. And those baseball scores, from the late West Coast games:)

Sometimes there is a beautiful sail in that starts before 5am. I remember getting up at about 4 to see the sights as we sailed thru the archepeligo as we approached Stockholm.

On our Panama Canal cruise, we sailed from Vancouver. On the day we got into LA I got up about 6 am. We were on the Coral on the Emerald deck, which has a huge observation deck at the stern. I went out there as we were moving slowly up the channel into San Pedro. THe sun was rising over the industrial park/container ship port and we were just passing the Battleship Iowa, which was tied up nearby. It was totally quiet and beautiful that morning...can't beat it.

There's no better time to slowly meander about the interior public areas, listening to the quiet piped-in music, and viewing the hundreds of paintings, items of memorabilia, perusing specialty menus, just taking in the ships as an astonishing work of art in and of itself. I find the time to be enchanting and mystical.

Well said, Day91, well said. I heartily concur :)

You can always walk from one end of the ship to another and count the steps, how many steps? how many to the international cafe, to HC, etc. sort of a good game ! :D Bring with you puzzles, sudoku, crossword, etc. find a comfy chair like and enjoy.

You will probably see many passengers heading for the pool area to put books and towels on the lounge chairs before they go back to bed !

So that's when they do it. No wonder I could never "reserve" a lounge chair on my 6:00 am walk.

15% gratuity on that? The crew cleaning you, I mean. The said lounge chair would be FOC. LOL.

Of course, no one should be "reserving" deck chairs. If everyone would grab a chair as they needed it, and then relinquished it when going elsewhere (meals, etc), there wouldn't be the problem of not being able to find a deck chair.

I just thought of another thing. I love listening to AM radio and would be cool to use my radio to listen to AM stations from approaching/passing cities and islands. I know this can be done anytime but there is something magical about using radio in these early morning hours.
Ping Pong, Shuffleboard, Disco, Casino, Internet, TV, and Reading are all I can think of. Princess ships are extremely quiet at that time. We played Ping Pong at 12:30 AM one night, and the only people we saw were crew members cleaning a pax sleeping on a lounge chair. Another night, we went to the Disco until 2:00 AM and only passed teenagers and crew members on our way back to our stateroom.
Cleaning a pax sleeping on a lounge chair, what level do need for that ? Elite, gold, or another?

Then your best activity would be to move their stuff to a totally different location so they can't find them. LOL!!
What are some of the things that people can do (outside of their room) during early morning hours, say from about 2 to 5 AM, when all entertainment on the ship is done for the day, and you are just sailing at sea, not at your next port yet? Even the restaurants are closed (except for the international cafe)

On my last cruise, I was so sleep-deprived, with all the time change going from NA to Europe, I was never able to stay past 1 to see what goes on the ship after 1 AM.

Are the swimming pools open? What other amenities or services are open 24 hours? I read that some people wake early in the morning to catch the sunset, which I thought would be amazing to catch.
Take photos of the interior before they are full of passengers. Moving passengers can ruin a picture - but it's their cruise too. I got a up a few times at 6am and shot the atrium before the madness.
Skywalker lounge goes late with the DJ spinning records until the wee hours.
I guess this may depend on the sailing. We took my kids to Alaska a couple of years ago, and my oldest was 18 so allowed in all the "adult" areas. He's also quite the night owl. According to him, Skywalkers was pretty dead at night. There was a handful of 18-20 year olds and one "older couple" (I'd guess about 45-50-ish from his description) that would come hang out with them. He said they were really nice, but it was kinda weird having people their parents' age hanging out with them. He also complained that the music was old and boring, so they got the DJ to play things from their iPods.
