Allure and propulsion problems.

Allure is back on Marine Traffic and located about 48 km SE of Marathon Key.

Looks like no photo opportunity with Oasis today. I guess it is better to get some gentle trial miles on the girl before they get back to scheduled cruising.

I see this now, could not find here earlier.

She's having some nice "shakedown time" for running in the azipod repairs.

Would be nice to know the lowdown on how it is all working out.

They have been cleaning and fixing interior all week too. Will be nice for these next folks cruising tomorrow that all the cabins will be ready from the start.

I will find out as much as I can after I board tomorrow. I'm very much looking forward to the Captain's Corner on this cruise.

I think Oasis is on a western itinerary this week with a first stop at Labadee? If Oasis heads for the northern coast of Cuba and then SE toward Haiti the two sisters could come very close to each other though it might be dark.

OB, check our future cruise list below. We are in Allure next year for B2B in March. Maybe see in 2015?

Enjoy your sailing and warm up those bones. It is well deserved, isn't it.

Not sure if you missed the first one OB. Have a great time.

Since you are lucky enough to board tomorrow you could always as the crew if the two ships sailed near each other in the night. Allure has been off the ship tracking for 4 hours and it might not take long for Oasis to leave the tracking area as well. Oh well, it would have made a great photo.

After all the anticipation, wonder why she is not leaving port until 6:30?

It is being discussed on another thread that there is a discrepancy between the ships passenger manifest and the actual count of passengers onboard. It has been reported that many Choice Air passengers flights are late due to weather in the midwest. The manifest discrepancy may be due to that.

So the pod is fixed and it is a good thing too because with Allure's departure delays last week this might have ended up being a cruise to no where! The Captain's Corner was really good. They actually showed a time lapsed video of Allure being pulled (stern first) into the dry dock. They then built a dam in the center around the center pod and drained just that area providing a dry space to work on the pod. There was only about 2 feet of clearance on each side of Allure in the dock. So if they build any future ships wider than the Oasis class they will loose this option for pulling off any quick fixes like they did to Allure.

We left Nassau 4 hours late because the computer system had no idea who was, and was not, back on the ship. Even with the delay Allure arrived in St. Thomas only a half hour later than its scheduled time. The ship cruises at 21 knots for that entire segment of the trip.

The Captains Corner sounded pretty cool. How was the rest of your cruise?

Thanks for the report. Glad to hear the repairs went as expected and that the ship can cruise at normal speeds.

It was a fantastic week. The only annoying thing was with the delays (we actually left every port late) the captain was not very good at keeping us informed as to what was going on. As with most things, it is easier to deal with stuff if you just know what is happening. For example, at 4:55 PM the captain announces we will be leaving Ft. Lauderdale on schedule. It was not until 40 minutes later that he made the first announcement about a delay.

Aside from that it was a great week in every way. Even the Oasis class disfunctional Windjammers seemed to work quite well this week. The food was quite good and even Sorrento's pizza seemed to improve. It was a great week on a great ship.

Thanks for the update. I hope they put that video on the website at some point, would be interesting to see.

Glad to hear. After our last time on-board her, we realized we only did half what we did the first time and it was still great. Of course we were with my son and his wife the first time and they were nonstop.

My wife and I were on Allure this past week. Interestingly enough, we were the very first passengers to board. We stepped aboard at 10:30 AM. Security immediately asked my wife if she would come back to the kiosk and pretend to get scan off and scan back on to test their new systems. We did not think anything of it at the time but in retrospect, this was foreshadowing the struggles with attendance that plagued the rest of the departures. As for the Captain, I thought he did a fair job advising us of the delays. You could tell he was very upset with the delays. The pleading with passengers over the intercom to report to guest services got old quickly. By my count, we were held up almost 10 hours of at sea time which translates to missed revenues in shops and casino...

We still enjoyed the cruise and as stated earlier, it seems that we were usually moving along at 21 knots most of the time at sea.

The crew told us that they all stayed on board for the week. One guy said there was a good bit of work done but nothing that was going to be extremely obvious to the guests. I think they spend a lot of time refinishing the deck on the Boardwalk and Aqua Theater. There were parties and barbecues for them. Also it seems that Red Bull sponsored a major event for them while they were breaking in the rebuilt pods around Key West.

Got to go book my next cruise(s).
