gooch47 Posted December 17, 2013 #1 Share Posted December 17, 2013 Wondering if this cruise itinerary is having a luncheon or a cocktail party. We are cruising with our granddaughter and her parents. On our Alaska Cruise the Captain's Circle rep graciously allowed us to take them to the cocktail party, but we won't even ask if it is a luncheon. Provided, of course, we make the cut. Pam in CA Posted December 17, 2013 #2 Share Posted December 17, 2013 It's up to the Captain. You can always ask the Captain's Circle Host(ess). It's usually a luncheon and no guests unless you are traveling as a single. The tables are carefully arranged by # of days cruised.
gooch47 Posted December 17, 2013 Author #3 Share Posted December 17, 2013 I guess what I was asking was what they had been doing up to now. I wonder if it changes from cruise to cruise or if it remains the same.
gooch47 Posted December 17, 2013 Author #4 Share Posted December 17, 2013 While we prefer the luncheons, our granddaughter got such a kick out of meeting the captain on the Golden Princess, a cocktail party would be nicer.
Phyljim Posted December 17, 2013 #5 Share Posted December 17, 2013 Last month it was a lovely luncheon. That is as current as I can do. The Captain s wife was on board and she joined us for lunch.
gooch47 Posted December 17, 2013 Author #6 Share Posted December 17, 2013 Thanks, Phil & Jim. That is exactly what I needed. No idea if we will make the cut or if they will still have it being Christmas week, but I'm sure the kids can handle lunch alone. LOL

caribill Posted December 18, 2013 #9 Share Posted December 18, 2013 (edited) How many cruises or is it nights that determine the cut usually? Total days at sea added up. The answer to how many days depends on the passenger history of thsoe on each sailing. Sometimes the cutoff is 750 days or more. Sometimes it is less than 100. Pia in her current "live from" said the cutoff on her Crown cruise was 353 days. Edited December 18, 2013 by caribill
gooch47 Posted December 18, 2013 Author #10 Share Posted December 18, 2013 We haven't NOT been invited for quite a while. We've been third highest three times now. But it does, of course, depend on the demographics and the type of cruise. I'm sure we wouldn't qualify on a world cruise. A quick rant: On a recent cruise, the first and second place winners were both unaccompanied women who I had seen around the ship wearing TA name badges. Probably escorts. No ... not that kind. LOL But I think either Princess or themselves should disqualify those who cruise for a living.

I would bet that quite a few TAs have been "most traveled" but you wouldn't have known as they weren't wearing badges. It doesn't matter to me as I will probably never come close to "most traveled" with my 338 days.

I'm surprised about that knowing how often you cruise. :) You've been on long cruises (remember around the horn on the Star with us?) We've cruised 390 days on Princess and already we've been invited to about 5 most travelled luncheons. Attended 3 of those.
gooch47 Posted December 18, 2013 Author #13 Share Posted December 18, 2013 You'd be surprised, Pam. We don't have all that many more days than you do. And like I said, we've been third place three times.

Or they could be TA clients who cruise so much the agencies gave them a name badge to wear (as well as get free advertising when they are worn). LOL we have only been to a couple of cocktail parties and the rest were luncheons but i believe a single person can only bring 1 guest so if there's a couple they shouldnt be allowed to invite any others or someone from the top 40 will miss out

I said I wouldn't even ask if it were a luncheon. And possibly the only reason they said it was OK to bring the kids to the cocktail party was because we were one of the top three. As for the TA's, they were both unaccompanied young women with no family in attendance. Highly unlikely they were traveling with a companion. dweeb Posted December 20, 2013 #17 Share Posted December 20, 2013 This weeks cruise, the most traveled was a lady with 997 days on princess ships. I know that I need a few more years on board to catch up to that many.
