Best Shore Excursions Ever

Please everyone add a 'best' shore excursion. Not a private one please - but from a ship choice. Please list ship and port to avoid overlaps.

Sight seeing

* Machu Picchu - Santiago (Rotterdam)

* Elephanta Caves - Mumbai (Ocean Princess)

 

 

Doing Stuff

* Fishing/wilderness camp - Ketichan (Statendam)

 

 

Food

* Winery Tour - Cape Town (Ocean Princess)

Why no private excursions? They are usually much better than the ones from the cruise line and significantly cheaper.

If you really want the best excursions, why this limit? I have only done excursions thru the ship, but the goal could be to find the best sight regardless of source.

 

My best .... hmmm ... Viking ship museum, Ski Jump, Vigeland Sculpture Garden in Oslo, Norway. Grand Princess.

Very true but.... then many of my best trips are not even cruises but land based adventures. Was not concerned about price actually as so many of the private tours mimic (or very nearly) the ships excursions.

Coral Princess, Panama Canal cruise ..... "Ocean to Ocean" excursion

Pacific Princess, Med and Adriatic cruise ..... Tour of Ephesus excursion

Most ship tours I've taken have been crap, honestly. Two from my short list of exceptions:

 

 

Overnight excursion to ancient Palmyra (Syria) -- Voyages to Antiquity

 

Baalbek (Lebanon) -- Voyages to Antiquity

A Coruna to Santiago de Compostela, from Ventura. Not only was the guide brilliant, but the coffee break was in an ancient hospice, now a Parador, which would be itself worthy of a guided tour.

Golden Princess, on Kauai: Movies and Waterfalls tour. Even my 15-year-old loved it.

Can't answer as we haven't done a ship's tour in many years. But often do same tour ship has but privately for a LOT less $$$!
