Not that bad an idea. I was perusing the dates last night to see if there were any dates that would work for us with artist we like i found a couple but then looked at the ships they were on and the itineraries and that fact changed my mind.

They do have the Breeze and Liberty on there that weren't bad ships or itineraries but then the artist on those ships we didn't care for.

Who knows might find something yet.

Just don't like the fact that when the concert is going on if you don't go there , not too many other options.

I can see that they are trying to drum up business on the shorter cruises mostly.

Hey, they are trying.

I would enjoy a concert given what the cost would be and whether it would be at a port that I wanted to do things at. But I think its a nice option. We live in an area where we don't get a whole lot of concerts without driving long distances to see. If I were booking a cruise specifically because of the concert I would want to make sure I could get tickets before I booked it though

I, for one, would not walk across the street to see any of the listed artists perform regardless if it was free or a pay venue.

As someone has suggested, the cruises that will be offering this entertainment will increase in price in addition to the cost of purchasing a ticket for the entertainer. Can you imagine the chaos in the show lounge...if the venue is slated to begin at 8:00 p.m., people will be saving rows of seats at Noon.

I also enjoy the casino and if this means that the casino and other venues will be closed until 1:00 a.m., I will not be happy.

Who wants to stay in Cozumel until 1:00 a.m.? Not me.

Ive seen half those acts in the 80's for cheap with a bunch of other bands on the same bill.

Now they play county fairs or Indian casino venues.

I don't like paying extra for entertainment that use to be free on Carnival

This entertainment has never been on Carnival. Nobody here plays county fairs.

Well, this certainly doesn't look like fun! These concerts take up too much space of those that don't want to be involved!

For the record, this cruise sold out in less than 2 hours. I guess we can close the book on that popularity. Your idea of fun and the 2,000 cabins that bought it must a tad differrent.

Looked at the concert cruises on the West Coast. They start $10 more than the other cruises at the same time. So basically the same cost.

But they are in Catalina until 1am. Catalina is CE night. Wonder how that will all play out.

Will the bands stay onboard the whole cruise? In Cozumel it's easy to leave via the dock. Catalina is a tender port. Wonder if the ship will return to Long Beach or a special boat will transport them back to the mainland? Catalina is 22 miles from Long Beach, it's in county cruising at it's finest.

Logistically they can return to Long Beach as Ensenada is only 200miles south of LA.

Interesting comments on this thread. I never had the chance to see Lady A in the 80s -- probably because they formed their band in 2006. Last I knew they have a current song. But the consensus here is that they are a washed up 80s band. I always learn new things on this board, like a ship that went into service in 2012 is an "old" ship.

I did look at the price of the cruise with Lady A and felt it was pretty high for 6 days the week before Thanksgiving. Guess that is a way to fill the ship and maybe they won't have to drop the price like the usually do on cruises just before a holiday. For the same price, I can go on a cruise without a concert on the week before a holiday, then go to a concert at home. That gives me two separate fun things to do for the same price(or less) than the concert cruise.

I am sure the ship stays in port so the band can get on and off -- just like any venue they perform at.

Not really. But then again we don't go to many of the shows now. We like the comedy club and anything with audience interaction like the games. But singing and dancing show- nah. So to pay extra for a concert- just don't see that happening. But- it might free up some crowded areas for me when everyone else does!

Hi :)

With all due respect, you cannot compare a band being on a

ship for 3 to 5 days to the new Carnival Live Concert concept

where the entertainer is only onboard for a single concert in

the main theater during a port day, not taking over an entire

voyage. Two very different things..

I have mixed feelings. I understand why some people are not happy. Most cruises had free shows every night. They are now replacing a free show with a pay show. I understand how people can see this as a down grade.

I see the prices of these cruises haven't really gone up yet, but I do see that depending on how popular this thing is that it could drive the price of these cruises.

Staying in port longer also means that the shops and casino are not open that night.

That being said, these are only on select sailings. So if you are not interested in this, book a different cruise. Now if when you booked the cruise it was not one of these and got changed to one later, I can understand being upset.

Depending on the artist I might book one of these cruises.

I voted for with the right artists etc.

I would not, however, book a ship or itinerary based on this. If it happened to be on the sailing I chose, I would then evaluate who the artist was and if I felt like spending the additional money at the time.

If it wasn't offered on my sailing, I wouldn't miss it.

I like the idea of this depending on who the artist or the band is when I am cruising for the price! All the people b!tch!ng that they don't want to pay for entertainment can simply not go to the show. It is not like someone is twisting their arm until they do go.

I am in favor of this change but as for the if you don't want to go nobody is twisting your arm comment, do you know what other options there are if you don't go?

Walk around in Cozumel til 1am? Not me

what time do the pools close?

Casino not opened.

Seaside theater is an option but what else is there to do?

Will there be comedians that night while the ship is in port?

Not a drinker so sitting at a bar is not for me.

There will still be comedians performing.

I dont like the idea at all. I dont cruise for concerts.

It will take up space (venue) of another entertaining activity. (free)

Yes, its different and its a change, but I wish Carnival would just do what the cruisers are asking for. Our bands, better entertainment, better Welcome Aboard parties, better Captain Gala nights. Like ole times...

Absolutely LOVE this idea...

Cruise rate does NOT go up, like a full music cruise charter would. Have always wanted to try one, but can't justify the added price , whereas these don't add to the cruise price, just the show if you CHOOSE.

ONLY the people who WANT to purchase the show (which is just an excursion) have to purchase the show.

DW already has locked in her Fantasy Daughtry cruise (she was down to two Fantasy cruise, but went to the Daughtry date)and I am trying to figure which Cozumel cruise I want to try.

Wouldn't book a cruise just for these shows, but it definitely nudges me to a date in my range, or Carnival over NCL or RCCL, for the same dates.

Carnival certainly got us back to try these, after trying NCL next.

I would never pick the cruise for a shoe. But I if happen to book a cruise on a ship that has a concert. I may get tax if it's someone I want to see.

Same way I won't drive 50 miles for a contest I may win. But I happen to be there I'll enter

I think the concept is great. I like that it doesn't appear that any of the prices of these cruises have increased whereas other themed cruises on Carnival have been totally overinflated (pricewise). I'd be willing to pay extra to see a group/performer that I was interested in. However, based on those offered currently, my DH would rather slit his wrist than attend any of those shows! It would be nice to see a few acts that weren't so "main stream".
