startwin Posted February 8, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 8, 2014 It's up, it's down, it's slower than molasses. I'm not a techie and I thought it was my computer until I saw some comments from others. Why does it do this?
RJ2002 Posted February 8, 2014 #2 Share Posted February 8, 2014 It's up, it's down, it's slower than molasses. I'm not a techie and I thought it was my computer until I saw some comments from others. Why does it do this? I've been having the same issues. Sometimes will get a "database error" message. I wonder if this is somehow related to the search function disappearing, and then reappearing. Krazy Kruizers Posted February 8, 2014 #3 Share Posted February 8, 2014 It has been on going for a few days. Hopefully the techs will fix everything -- SOON!!

Shmoo here Posted February 9, 2014 #6 Share Posted February 9, 2014 Every day for the past 4-5 days CC has gone down for me. On top of extremely slow loading. And every once in a while (like about every 3rd time) when I change pages/forums I get bumped off. Top that with the search function going in and out (so how can we complain when people post the same questions over and over?) it's been a real pain. Linda&Vern Posted February 9, 2014 #7 Share Posted February 9, 2014 Ditto what the others have said. VERY slow and a strange almost freezing up for the last couple of days.
tinlizzie123 Posted February 9, 2014 #8 Share Posted February 9, 2014 Well, that's good news, thought it was my computer, just got it out of the repair shop and thought I was going to have to take it back.
Rare cruisingxpert Posted February 9, 2014 #9 Share Posted February 9, 2014 Somebody just told me they thought it was because so many are live streaming the Olympics on their computers and mobile devices. Sounded plausible although I'm not a techno whiz:D
Rare erewhon Posted February 9, 2014 #10 Share Posted February 9, 2014 Today the site is very, very slow, especially at the sail away time. Yesterday I had to re sign in, every time I tried to make a post.
jrzebird Posted February 9, 2014 #11 Share Posted February 9, 2014 Except for not having the search function the past few days, today was the first time I had trouble with CC and it was the inability to log in. It just took me at least half an hour to log in. Like everyone else, I thought it might be my computer. But, I had no problems with other sites so figured it was CC. Hopefully they let us know what it is. I don't think it has anything to do with the Olympics. The days of computers slowing down because kids are home from college are long past. I'm guessing that that CC is upgrading something.

I'm guessing that that CC is upgrading something. Don't be so quick to blame college kids for slowing down CC. It may well be CC employees that are live streaming the Olympics while at work. My company has sent out a couple of warnings about watching sporting events such as the Olympics or Masters while working on company servers (at home or at the office) because it causes major problems. If there's too much traffic using unusually large bandwidth at the same time, the servers simply will not be able to handle it all. Employees are more likely the cause than college kids. Or, CC could simply be experiencing technical difficulties like all websites due from time-to-time. :) Edited February 9, 2014 by DizzyDallasDi
Randyk47 Posted February 9, 2014 #15 Share Posted February 9, 2014 (edited) It's still a little strange this morning.....normally new postings or unread threads show up on my computer in bold type so I can easily tell what is new from what I've read. So far this morning nothing is bolded so it's not tracking like it normally does. Other than that it seems to be loading without any problem so maybe they're working through whatever issues they're having. I doubt very seriously that it's CC staff causing the issues by streaming the Winter Olympics though. I'm pretty sure they use a hosting service, a remote server maintained by a company that specializes in hosting websites, so it's probably not a matter of traffic. Anyhow...just for grins and giggles....I've never thought of Cruise Critic as a full on business with a corporate headquarters. :) Should add that none of my other visited websites seem to be having any issues either today or yesterday. GmaPajama Posted February 9, 2014 #16 Share Posted February 9, 2014 Yikes. I just spent an hour writing up a review for my recent Noordam cruise. It looked like everything was ok, and I posted it - but it's nowhere to be seen. Hopefully, it will show up eventually. I'd hesitate to write it up all over again. Krazy Kruizers Posted February 9, 2014 #17 Share Posted February 9, 2014 When I used to do reviews, I would write them in Word Processor and then copy and paste. This board has been weird this morning. I posted earlier and by the time I returned from breakfast, everything is showing posts starting from yesterday. It is 10:01 AM eastern time. mamaofami Posted February 9, 2014 #18 Share Posted February 9, 2014 All the threads are posting times from last night. Ditto for NCL where I'm trying to follow something. My daughter leaves on Breakaway this AM and I can't find the ship in NY Harbor. ANd, we have no sailaway posted for today on HAL. What's up? Randyk47 Posted February 9, 2014 #23 Share Posted February 9, 2014 (edited) Data base and software glitches can be a huge pain and extremely difficult to solve. Our personal website is hosted externally, meaning while the website is put together on my wife's computer she actually downloads the site to a hosting service. When you go to our site you're not actually hooking up to one of our computers so changes made at home or issues with our computers have no impact on our website until they're uploaded to the service. Works well until all of a sudden something will "break" for no known reason. Frustrating as we've made no changes but something has gone wrong somewhere along the line. I've heard some really salty comments from Mrs. K as she tries to fix issues. :) Luckily it doesn't happen often. :D Edited February 9, 2014 by Randyk47
