In lieu of fanny packs, what do you use?

Recommended Posts

For the ship? Or in port? I use a crossbody for port time and I just found

a new Kipling on the clearance rack at ROSS:D....it is smaller but still

has the pockets Kipling always has and lightweight too...I will be using

it.

For evenings? On non formal nights I use a small crossbody bag but

I just found a new wristlet and will try this one on my upcoming cruise:)

Just an FYI....I still see women with fanny packs;)......just depends

on what you are comfortable wearing.

My favorite is my Brahmin crossbody because it has room for EVERYTHING (at least everything I need for a day in port) as well as built in wallet with card space and such, so everything is close at hand yet tucked away. This is the crossbody one I have:

I have several Brahmin bags and love them all!

The crossbody bag from Vera Bradley - I actually prefer the hipster, so it has more room than the regular VB crossbody - also works well for me both on the ship and walking around port. It's very comfortable on the shoulder and against the waist and hips, holds a lot, and packs away easily ... it's just the pattern doesn't match everything I pack like the Brahmin does. I have several VB patterns and styles, but I love the Marina pattern especially for cruises!

My husband & I each wear cross body bags, with the zipper attached to the stap with a little carbine lock. ... if we know that we're going to hit different weather during the day, he might take his backpack instead to stow jackets & umbrellas... not a fan of the fanny pack, for looks or security.

On the last cruise we were on a few years ago, on RC, I bought something similar to this for using on the ship. It became my best friend. lol It was just enough to carry my key card, lip balm and my iPod. I still use it all the time when I go for a walk around the neighborhood. It has a strap that fits cross-body. I think these do too. I'm looking for something I can bring to dinner with me for the ship. Something similar but nicer. lol

For casual: a cute cross body bag

For formal: a small clutch

For water: husband has a waterproof phone pouch that can also hold our seapass, cash and credit card. It is attached to a lanyard. Great for taking water pictures :-)

I just carry a very small purse...not a "cross body" thing. On the ship, you only need your ship's key/card...but I also want my comb, lipstick, etc....

In ports, I refuse to be the "pack mule" for my family, so I just carry a smaller purse, like I'd carry around my home town. Have never had a problem! We don't bring EVERY bit of money ashore, or all of our credit cards....bring a bit of cash, and one card that is NOT linked to your shipboard account.

Don't be paranoid!!!

I got this wristlet in black to carry to dinner which holds my sea pass, lipstick and iPhone.

On the ship, I don't carry anything most of the time - my keycard on a bracelet, and my iPhone in my hand (+/- a book). On land, I use a cross body camera bag, which has a padded box for my camera (DSLR) and enough room for a wallet, iPhone, water bottle, etc. I love it - it's the Lowepro Passport Sling. Sometimes I use a knapsack instead, if I don't have my camera and I'm doing more walking/hiking rather than sightseeing.

I use a beach bag or sling back pack. My small cross body purse is for the airport through embarkation and disembarkation through the airport. I like having the beach bag for ports so that I have room to stash a bottle of water, towel, stuff that I buy.

Cute:) I just got one yesterday that looks like that same crocco

leather by Cole Haan. It was on a major sale at Dillard's for only

25.00!.....I wanted black but this one is sort of gold/bronze....I think

it will go with my non-formal outfits anyway;)

That's really nice!

This is what I bought on the last cruise, perfect size for walking around the ship or to take with you by the pool. It has a clear pouch on the other side which is where I put my iPod. It looks like they have almost the same thing in leather (2nd link). I think I may get the tan one. :D

I use a teeny tiny Brighton crossbody for dinner and evening activities on the ship. It holds my cruise card, casino cash and my small camera.

For sea days in the Caribbean, I have a small Vera Bradley tote that hold my book, sunscreen, etc.

For port days in Europe, I carry the Little Hipster from Vera Bradley and for port days in the Caribbean, I carry a beach bag with towel, change of clothes, etc. There is a zippered pocket in the beach bag for a mini wallet.

I carry either a Dooney & Bourke North/South or a LeSportsac Kasey. Both can easily fit sunglasses, my small wallet, tissues, mints, and hand sanitizer. If it's a water based excursion I just toss the tiny crossbody into my beach bag.

I have a Kipling cross body as well as one of their duffers. The pluses are that they are super lightweight. The minuses are that they are not holding up as well as I had expected. They are not heavy duty, or even close.

I use a weightless crossbody bag by Bagellini.

Our crossbody bags are Bagellini too, very lightweight when empty, but I can cram quite a bit in if I need to. I have the kind with three outer unsecure pouches & a main zipper compartment with a second zipper area in side, when the outer zipper is connected to the metal piece on the strap, I feel very secure. :)

I've looked at the Kipling ones too, & while I like them, I found these ones at TJMAXX for less than $30 each, which makes me happy, they've been to Europe a few times now & have held up well, & being plain black, DH is comfortable wearing one.

I would like to carry a cross-body bag, but I have a pretty big chest, and I feel like the strap across my chest just draws even more attention to that area. So I usually just use a regular small purse, like this one. http://www.verabradley.com/product/Category/Crossbody/Mini-Hipster/1001725/defaultColorVariantId/178759/pc/638/c/0/sc/883/p/1001725.uts

Depending on what port we are in, I wear a travel wallet under my clothes.

Sorry to hear yours are not holding up. Mine have held up exceptionally well. The first one (purchased in 2006) is still going strong and looks like new after being lugged through deserts, full-out cloudbursts, and plenty of travel on planes, trains and automobiles (and the occasional bus). The interior has no rips or tears, the zippers all work perfectly, and the strap shows no wear that I can see.

BTW, I can attest that this bag is very good at keeping the contents inside dry. This, after 3 rain soaked hours at a site near St. Remy de Provence and another drenching day at Fiesole. My camera and notes stayed dry (as long as they were in the bag, anyway).
