Travel games?

I'm going with my brother and grandmother. I don't have a Kindle or iPad -- Kobo and iPod Nano is enough for me 99% of the time so I see no need to upgrade those.

I just figure there might be the odd day where it's raining or something and the scheduled events don't interest us and it might be a fun way to pass the time.

Games are a great idea, as long as their relatively easy to pack. We always have cards, dice for Yahtzee and this year we are bringing Phase 10. You will also see other groups playing games. If you don't end up playing, no big deal.

LCR is a great game.

It comes in a little tin the size of what Altoids Mints are sold in or a small tube like the mini M&M's. They have also just come out with the LCR card game.

It's a perfect game for cruising or waiting at the airport.

About 35 years ago we got a travel scrabble game that has been all over the world. It is small and fits easily into a carry-on.

We have used it on planes, hotels and ships.

We've got one of those!!! It comes with a drawstring bag to hold the unused tiles while the game is in play, and the tiles are magnetic, so will stick to the board. I think DH bought it on a BA flight about 20 yes ago. We always take it with us and have had many a game under beach umbrellas. We also bring a deck of cards with us. However, we have almost always been able to find cards and board games in at least one lounge on board.

On our most recent cruise, I saw several groups of people playing Cards Against Humanity. I googled it when I got home, and it sounds like fun...rather politically incorrect, but fun!

I have also recently heard of a dice game called Left-Right-Centre that I'm going to find and buy. Looks fun.

And DH has complained for 35 about the tiny draw string bag being too small for his hands.

I'm going through various sites, making up a list of what I need to pack for my upcoming cruise, and I thought about travel games. Would it be a good idea to pick one up for the trip?

I always pack one of my cribbage boards and a deck of cards, and one board is for 3 handed cribbage. Never tire of the game.

Cards Against Humanity is a riot - if you have a large group of people with good senses of humor who are not easily offended, I highly recommend it. That said, I don't know if I would pack it for a cruise. With all of the expansion packs they have made, it would need it's own bag.

We always pack a book of Mad Libs - it's fun and doesn't take up much space. We never end up playing more than once on a cruise, but every time we do, people comment that it's a good idea and they wish they'd thought of it. We usually end up tearing some pages out and sharing. :)

If you type "travel games" in your search bar, you'll find several sites that sell them. And, most toy stores sell travel games too. Magnetic games, such as chess, checkers, backgammon, etc. are usually compact and easy to pack. Although it's a game for two, I'm surprised no one has mentioned "Battleship". You might also want to think about game books, such as crossword, sudoku, find-a-word, etc. And for the little ones, a coloring book and crayons can come in handy.;)

There is a great dice game called Ten Thousand. All you need is 5 or 6 dice and a pen and paper to keep score. You can google it to find instructions. It is lots of fun, easy to learn and very portable.

We have travelled with friends and played it in different resorts. Several times people have stopped to watch us and we've ended up teaching it to them.

I have checked many games on the ships and have found pieces missing from them.

We also take our own playing cards.

Our younger daughter (about 12 at the time) and a friend she met on the ship took the 5 Scrabble Games (missing letters) they had on the ship and turned them in to 3 Scrabble Games with all of the letters needed.

It took them quite a while but they enjoyed doing it.

When they finished, they took them the teen center where the person in charge kept the extra letters but discarded the rest of the other two games.

The last cruise we did had an entire room full of games, didn't appear to be old or missing pieces either.

Most large cruise lines will give away free decks of cards from the casino or just at guest services.

We usually bring Apples to Apples as that is a favorite game of ours. We don't bring the whole box, but put a handful of the cards in a ziploc for the trip.
