We are booked in Anytime Dining on the Grand next November. Can we call in the morning and make reservations? How hard is it to be seated (party of 2) at 7:30?

Thanks so much for all your info!:D

Probably pretty easy. From experience about 60% of the passengers that dine in the DR eat early so getting a table later is generally easy. Normally the Michelangelo DR on Deck 5 starts ATD at 5:30. The DaVinchi DR on deck 6 normally has traditional fixed early seating dining at 5:30 and opens at 7:30 for ATD, so there is lots available at 7:30 in two DRs.

Just got off the Grand. We had anytime dining in Michelangelo. One night we made reservations at 5 for a particular table and waiter. When we got there at 5, someone else was seated and the Maitre ‘de said they beat us to it and they couldn’t hold a reservation if someone else showed up and asked for the table. He then set us at a table for 6 with an empty table for 4 (we were a party of 4) next to us. The table for 4 soon arrived and not only did they get the table for 4 but their wine was already iced and waiting for them.

This was the first time we have ever had that problem. In the past, when we made a reservation for ATD, it was always honored. As some said earlier, it depends on your Maitre ‘De. Worth a try.

Whenever, I've called for AT reservations at 7:30 (normally works well for us) we've not had a problem. We've never ask for a special table or waiter. Sometimes, we say to share and other times (especially toward the end of a cruise) a table for 2. No problem. :)

We've often had a standing reservation for Anytime Dining that we set up in the dining room on the first night. We then have the same wait staff throughout the entire cruise which results in familiarity and better service imho. Usually there is no problem for times after 7:30. Many passengers opt for early dining so they can see the shows afterwards. On our last cruise we did the opposite - saw the shows first and ate around 8 every night.

We thought there would be a crush of people at the end of the early show, so we rushed to the anytime dining room on Coral. But no! We were seated right away, and there was no large surge in our wake [pun intended...]

This is one of the few areas where I disagree a little. The makeup and requests for each voyage change, so letting the MDs have some flexibility here is a good thing.

Speaking with one MD about it, he said he sets his policy based on the TD waitlist for a given cruise. If its large, he's more likely to allow a standing reservation.

On some ships they allow it and on some they don't. Very frustrating for Princess not to either have it or not. Consistency would be nice.
