No smoking on the balconies of any of the staterooms?

Although the policy states no smoking on the balcony, has anyone experienced guest smoking out on the balcony? Just wondered?

My first time on Allure in 2011, there was a lot of smoking on the neighboring balconies. I've seen people in the past say that it was also a problem for them.

The new policy only went into effect on January 1st this year.

On Allure last week the port side of the pool deck was like a smoke fest. Aside from that the ship was amazingly smoke free and I never caught a whiff off the stuff when I was out on my balony. It was so nice to be able to go to the pub on the Promenade and actually enjoy it.

Is that a bad thing?

For me, yes. I would expect the cruise line to respect smokers and non-smokers, and treat everyone in a friendly manner. I have not cruised since the new policy went into effect, but will be on the Grandeur in 2 weeks. I have never had an issue before, and I would hope I never do.

I totally respect everyone's right to not be exposed to the smoke. I truly mean that. But I would be nice to have a comfortable place for people that do smoke, to be able to enjoy their cigarette/cigar, ecig.

I have read several reports of the smoking areas not having the ashtrays emptied. As a smoker, I would like a place to go that is properly maintained and clean of overflowing cigarette butts. I don't believe that is too much to ask. A place that doesn't interfere with people that want to avoid the smoke.

Boleros too. :)

Oops... I would hope those places wouldn't sink! Sorry about the typo!

Very true! I have wanted to go to Boleros on my last two Oasis class sailings but when you get near it the smell knocks you over!

I've read the casino is unbearable under the new policy since it has turned into the de facto smoking lounge. Anyone experienced this?

We're used to the casino's at home being a smoking lounge so I guess we won't notice the difference:D

Not us. Even though the distance is almost the same and AC has more amenities, we usually head to the NY casinos that are completely smoke-free. Such a pleasure.

no you may not and yes I have. in one case it was a pipe or cigar, the other they brought along some sort of contraption that looked like an ashtray with a dome on it that reduced the amount of smoke being released to float freely but by no means reduced the stink.

The policy is very clear about the places you are now allowed to smoke.

and yes this includes all e cigs or their equivalents.

I realize the OP is asking about Allure but we are just off Independence last week and noticed no balcony smoking (we were on the starboard side) and outdoor smoking was limited to the port side pool deck.

The casino had areas designated as smoking and non-smoking and - although smoke certainly travels - this was being respected by those who were smoking. The Connoisseur Club, which is designated as a cigar lounge, of course still allowed smoking but the one time I was in there (enjoying my one cruise cigar) no one was smoking cigarettes. There were no other inside venues that permitted smoking.

Overall, to our experience as non-smokers (my one cruise cigar not withstanding :)), the new policy was well respected by all on Independence last week.

If a smoker pays the same fare as a non-smoker and is made to feel like a second-class citizen, then yes... it is.

I'm all for limiting smoking in indoor areas...fair compromise for all involved. But outdoors on balconies? If you're standing on your balcony, you're inhaling way more dangerous stuff from the smoke belching out of the stacks on the ship than you ever could from a cigarette.

The new rules strike me as kind of unfair.

Thanks to the poster who linked to the policy itself on the RC site. Near the bottom it states this:

Cigar and pipe tobacco is limited to designated outdoor areas and Cigar Bars**.

**Cigar Bars on Royal Caribbean International are called the Connoisseur Club and are featured on the Freedom Class and Voyager Class ships.

On Allure and Oasis, there used to be something called (I think) "Cigars Under the Stars", and it was a designated time on multiple evenings when the upper deck above the Solarium was available for smoking cigars. Do they still do this?

Yes, oasis feb 1st sailing. Casino was unbearable. Even the non-smoking side. The front entrance near the glass sculpture lots of people just stood around smoking - not gambling.

My husband enjoys playing black jack but couldn't even stay at the tables on the non-smoking side because his eyes were burning. He found an electronic black jack table in the back entrance hallway where there wasn't any smoke so that's the only black jack he played all week.

Keep in mind that we are NEVER exposed to cigarette smoke in our daily lives so it really bothered us. YMMV
