What one piece of advice would you give me about cruising?

Thank you,

Only one? There are many that I can think of.

One that I found out last time we cruised was to take a Tervis cup to fill with your favorite drink (lemonade, tea, juice, etc.). You can also grab a chocolate milk during breakfast and save it for later. Then mix it with some soft serve for a chocolate shake. YUM!

Don't take half the stuff you read here...seriously. ;)

Cruisecritic is not cruising. It's a moaner's forum

but you can get excellent info here as well.

Just learn how to sift thru the dross and ignore the silly stuff. :)

Keep a positive attitude. Concentrate on the positives, and the few negatives will not spoil your cruise.

Don't try to do everything. Take time to relax and enjoy.

Take plenty of sunscreen. :)

Get a good "brick and mortar" "cruise specialist" TA (preferably one recommended by Conde Nast Traveler) and have a long discussion about your likes and means. In particular, think about the kinds if hotels and restaurants you prefer and try to match the cruise line. Since you're living on the ship for a period of time, choice of cruise line may be as important if not more than important as itinerary.

Recognize also that the combination of the right TA (with their own perks), cruise itinerary price specials, all inclusive costs, etc. can bring seemingly expensive lines into a comparable price range with better mass market ones. A good example is comparing premium Oceania to mass market lines like Celebrity or HAL.

Research your ports...it will truly enhance your time ashore if you know what there is in each place that might interest you, and how to do it! A guidebook is a must, IMO.

Bring binoculars...there's lots to see at sea!

Realize that ship cabins are nothing like hotel rooms, size-wise, unless you spring for a suite!

Most folks (especially 1st timers) will spend about 1/2 of the cost of the cruise in incidentals.....excursions, photos, souveniers, etc.....the costs can add up if you don't watch it!

Watch the sunrise, and take the time to cherish the moment, let it be for you or for you and the one you love.............no cameras---this sunrise can be the memories made for your heart.

Understand that not every one that cruises posts on Cruise Critic. That Cruise Critic most likely only represents 5% of the total cruising population. Therefore don't take the reviews to seriously. Go enjoy and decide for yourself !

A-freaking-men!!!! I was ready to cancel my cruise - then I realized MOST people are having a great time and I"d love to sit on the Lido and have a glass of tea with them. Some are joy suckers!!! Find the helpful who love to cruise. One of the things I'm looking for is how to deal with little stuff that goes wrong - cause you know it will! Who is the best person to go to? what can you do to get around a blip and carry on having fun.

Advice that I've received - remember that you don't have to make a bed, wash a dish, or cook a meal

You can sit on deck, swim, watch a movie or a show, go to a gym, watch the ocean, read a book - whatever you want to do.

Go with joy, avoid grumpy people [but don't help them overboard!!]
