A shout out for recent entertainment on Journey

Acknowledging that enjoyment of the entertainment can be a personal thing I did want to express here how much I appreciated the entertainment on Journey whilst on the Norwegian Fjords and Baltic cruises recently.

We lucked out and had Brooks Aehron join us on both cruises. I've seen him on Celebrity a few times and whilst his act appears much the same he is a really excellent pianist and entertainer. If you get a chance to go and see him don't miss the opportunity. Bruce Parker also joined us for Norway and I really enjoy his singing of Motown.

Richard Rubin, a young pianist from New Jersey was highly entertaining and he played all kinds of tunes. He excels at ragtime. Maple Leaf Rag. Ok it's very typical of the genre, but he plays it excellently and with good humour.

I've seen the shows a few times and whilst it is now a bit obvious there is no denying that the current cast are an excellent mix. They are all good, but a special mention of Anna Fegi Brown who has a wonderful voice (have a look on YouTube. I'm sure she will be there as she won the Philippines version of one of the singing reality shows).

Finally Sasha and Dima, the ballroom dancers from Ukraine. They put on a new dance for the Le Club Voyage main party and it was absolutely stunning given the size of the venue. They are a delight to meet in person too.

We too really enjoyed the entertainment on Journey last month, we thought it was better than in previous cruises. We also were delighted to meet up with Brooks after a gap of several years and in our feedback and reviews we highlighted we thought he was a great fit for Azamara's Cabaret Lounge

Thanks, Phil, for giving us even more to look forward to when we sail on the Journey again in a few weeks. Nice review, as always.

Hi Phil! I'm glad you enjoyed the entertainment. I must *sheepishly* admit that Rob and I saw only one show when we were on the Journey with you in May and we were so exhausted from traveling that neither of us can claim to have seen the whole thing. We have lots of catching up to do show-wise on our next Journey cruise, and I'm looking forward to it. We usually don't miss any--I don't know what happened to us in May!

Phil,

I'm glad you enjoyed the entertainment on your recent Journey b2b.

But you are right it is very subjective. I love Bruce Parker and his energetic Motown show but Brooks is definitely not to my taste.

I know many people love him though

Phil,

Richard Rubin was performing on Celebrity Century 3 years ago when we cruised Alaska.

We found his stories and New Jersey (plus religious) wit most amusing.

His piano skills were outstanding, everything from rag time to Bob Dylan, he even played Danny Boy just for us!

Hi Phil,

Thanks very much for sharing your insights. We've seen Brooks Aehron perform many times on Celebrity, and he's wonderful. Nice to hear he's performing on the Azamara circuit as well.

Hope you had a wonderful time on Journey !

Just wondered, is there any way of finding out who the entertainers are likely to be on a particular cruise? My next Quest cruise is 24 October.

:)Lynne

Hi Lynne,

You might try calling Azamara directly, but as you will be routed to a call center in Guatemala, I doubt they'd have access to the information. It's worth a try. Good Luck !

Thanks Andy, but it's not that important. Anything but ringing Guatemala!!!!

Just idle curiosity on my part....

Yes, it will be difficult to tie down that information as schedules and plans change. I do know that Dima and Sasha, the ballroom dancers, are going to Quest for eight months, but not until November. Keeping fingers crossed for you that there is a nice selection.

Hopefully one of these entertainers will be on board for our next cruise.

However, nothing but nothing will top the sight of Eric in drag and on rollerskates for us! (Journey April this year).

Eric in drag on skates is certainly an incredible sight which I enjoyed in May.

I was reduced to tears of laughter as were most of the rest of the audience.

Just disembarked Journey, and a special thanks to those who posted here.

Ordinarily we make little effort to see the entertainment but, after Phil's comments and the ensuing discussion, we changed our approach. As a result, we especially enjoyed Richard Rubin, and his sense of humour, in the Casino Lounge. We hope ACC extends his contract.

The talent of the ensemble cast in the Cabaret, led by the female singers, also made their evening performance eminently worthwhile.

Hotel Director Heike(sp?) arranged for a special barbecue evening with a German concert band.

All of these elements added to an extremely enjoyable cruise

Hi nordski. I'm glad you took time out and enjoyed the entertainment. I hope they keep Richard on the ship too. Very entertaining. The Norway cruise I did was his first one on Azamara, but it became clear he developed quite a following and so they added so e extra slots and his main venue was Looking Glass because the World Cup soccer would take up the Casino Bar space. He would also play late in The Library and that was a nice venue.

That's him Deirdre. I'm pretty sure he will be on your sailing. I think he leaves in October.

Phil

As I understand it, you are, as usual, correct.

I think he wants to extend the present contract or undertake another one later.

We just disembarked on Sunday as well, and I can say that we also made an extra effort to see the entertainment based on the information in this thread. It was well worth it. I was impressed at the quality and variety given the size of the ship, and we ended up doing something almost every night.

Anna Fegi Brown's voice was amazing. Eric is also quite talented, and I agree with others - seeing him in drag and roller blades is worth it all on its own (as if he wasn't tall enough to begin with). Pretty much every entertainer had real skill and talent.
