Bodogbodog Posted December 11, 2015 #2028 Share Posted December 11, 2015 Ship Name: Aurora Cruise Code: PR601SFOSYD Departure Date: Monday, 25 January 2016 Cruise Name: San Francisco to Sydney Nights: 25 Departing: San Francisco, United StatesInside $1802 pp Interesting - great itinerary across the Pacific. Looks like we're going to be racing each other to Hawaii - Crystal Serenity leaves San Francisco on the same day and both ships will be in Honolulu on 31 January - after that paths convergence on the journey to Sydney. I'm afraid there are no bargain fares on the Crystal voyage - in fact it's sold out in all the entry level categories
Cruise-a-boat Posted December 11, 2015 #2029 Share Posted December 11, 2015 HELLO, My wife bought a cruise as a surprise for next years birthday. But she has clearly paid to much, she bought it direct with the cruise line 3 weeks ago....does anyone have any advice on how we can get a better deal or an upgrade something? Has final payment date past? If not, you could contact the cruiseline and ask if they can refare it. It just depends under the terms and conditions you booked under. Which cruise is it. icat2000 Posted December 11, 2015 Author #2032 Share Posted December 11, 2015 (edited) Why are you so sure she has clearly paid too much? Gut asks a valid point. Because the main reason why cruises are discounted could be because they not popular itinerary or there is many cruiselines sailing the same itinerary or it could be a repositioning ship, or its not a popular time of year. However, some cruises hold their prices, because its popular, Christmas Cruises and NYE, Australia Day, Melbourne Cup cruises tend to hold prices, cruises in school holidays periods similar too. If the cruise you have currently booked on has dropped significantly then I would ask for a refare. Edited December 12, 2015 by icat2000

Cassicruiser Posted December 12, 2015 #2038 Share Posted December 12, 2015 Well-timed! They'll be opened to the public tomorrow. There's no one best time. For a Europe itinerary with Celebrity if you want to lock something specific in I'd suggest booking early, but when there's a good promotion e.g. some bonus which they tend to do for their European sailings. It's likely there will be individual specials really close to the sailing, but you have to be flexible with airfare then, so depends on your situation. Oh I hope thats the case, very hard to plan with no clue about itineraries! April sounds late Mic, so I'm hoping you're wrong :p We have to plan a bit of a land trip around a cruise so would like to book sooner, but saying that, we will need some thinking and considering time once itineraries are released. So will take your advice and choose a cruise and jump on it as soon as there's a promotion. Icat, looks like youve had great success with airfares. We'll keep eyes open once we know our dates as well, and hope for a special. I have previously booked cruises with US agents as getting price adjustments, cancellations etc are so easy, but with our weaker dollar its too expensive now  So now having to book in Aus with very high non refundable deposits its another story altogether! I had a quick look and there are a few showing now but not many. So maybe they are starting to be released and not quite there yet. No RCI showing yet, a couple of Princess and Celebrity. But the prices - yikes!!!

I guess thats a specialised market , the clients know what they want and are prepared to pay for it. Crystal must be good as they get a lot of repeat cruisers , and you dont see much advertising for them....at least not down this way.
Bodogbodog Posted December 13, 2015 #2043 Share Posted December 13, 2015 Crystal must be good as they get a lot of repeat cruisers , and you dont see much advertising for them....at least not down this way Yes - there's a very loyal customer base but there are occasional cruises that are relatively well priced in comparison to their other cruises. The A$ versus the US$ exchange rate is not doing us any favours at the present time. Recently they released the balance of their 2018 itineraries and there were two very well priced cruises among them - 1 turned out to be mispriced which they fixed in a couple of days and they honoured the original pricing for those who booked it quickly and the other, which is a West to East coast of the US via the Panama canal has already sold out in the entry level categories even though it 2.5 years away When comparing prices remember that Crystal is all inclusive with all drinks and specialty restaurants and gratuities included (there are some high end drinks and multiple visits to specialty restaurant charges in addition if required). Spa and Casino/Gambling charges are extra. They have an extensive "enrichment" programme of lectures and things like computer courses and dancing as well as great entertainment We have met some lovely fellow passengers on Crystal - very down to earth and often having decided to treat themselves with a 6 star cruise experience. There's a reasonable mix of nationalities including Australian and New Zealanders but the majority are from the US
