strangest question, but I KNOW you can answer it

Can anyone tell me the width of a mini-suite cabin??? It's a strange request, but I have a friend who is angry because her cabin is 8 cabins further back from the elevator than mine. She is threatening to cancel the cruise if she doesn't get moved. And I am telling her that the width of a mini-suite cabin surely can't be more than 10 feet--am I right? She has had surgery and says she can't walk that much farther. Eighty feet would be less than 30 yards--am I cold hearted to not switch cabins?? I booked mine two months earlier.

With friends like these...(and so forth.) Is the only walking she intends to do on the entire cruise from her cabin to the elevator and back?

I'm sorry I can't answer the width of a mini suite question but I do not think you are being cold-hearted. I think your friend is being childish. I would never expect my friend to switch cabins with me or threaten to cancel a cruise because of it. I'm sorry, but I'm offended on your behalf!

she might have to hire a wheel chair and expect you to push her around the ship

On most ships the mini-suite is no wider than a regular balcony cabin. I would say 9 feet wide give or take a couple of inches and than a couple more inches for the wall space between the staterooms.

I think the much larger concern for you would be, if she is balking at walking the width of eight cabins (which is more like 64 ft.) how the heck does she plan on getting around the rest of the ship?
I agree. As already said, the width of most Princess cabins is about 9'. Add another 4" or so for insulation and electrical. Perhaps a walker with a seat or a scooter might be suggested so she can get around the ship.

I, too, agree with the others. You'll have a much more enjoyable cruise without your "friend". If she stays, will you have to listen to her complaining  through the entire cruise about not being to walk to everything, i.e. to the MDR, or the buffet, etc. hope you don't get roped into pushing her around the ship. :o

Good luck with this.

OK, when I first saw this thread I thought, hmm, a joke, right? If it isn't then hope the "friend" cancels. If friend can't walk 80 feet then how will friend be able to walk the 800 or 900 feet to get from one end of the ship to the other (or anything in between) let alone do anything else? Shore excursions anyone? Sometimes cruises without "friends" are better than with them. Just sayin'.

Thank you for confirming what I was feeling. I even had my tape measure out to see the length of my bed and added 3 feet. Cruise Critic friends are the best friends to have. You always have the answer--even to "strange" questions!!

If 80 feet down a hallway (basically the distance most people walk from their front door to get their newspaper and back) is the breaker for this person, I would encourage them to cancel.

Let's review 80 feet (in my estimation)

Distance from the elevator to the horizon court buffet entrance.

Distance from the elevator to the Princess Theater

Distance from the elevator to the casino

Distance from the elevator to any of the dining rooms

Sounds like cruising is just not this person's cup of team. I recommend a land vacation!

Good luck!

Let her figure it out. It's not your problem. Keep her issues away from you. It will only taint your vacation. Back in 09 I was on Celebrity Century with a friend. After the pre port night and 1 night on the ship I had it with her. Granted in our case we were sharing a cabin. Our 1st port stop was Key West. After spending the day with her I decided I couldn't take anymore and got off the ship. This cost me $400.00 (the cruiseline charged me that )plus an expensive room in Key West and a flight change home. About 2 months after this all happened I found out she had been dabbling in drugs. Specifically "meth". I let a friend ruin my vacation. If your friend doesn't get her way , let her stay home! If she is this petty now wait until she gets on the ship. Nothing will make her happy. You will probably have a better time and meet some great people while by yourself than if she were with you harping about everything. Have a great cruise regardless :)

I presume your friend is elderly.?

Due to old age I have a healed fracture in my lower spine plus degenerated disk disease in the spine and use a cane. This does not stop me from getting around. As suggested she could get a walker lots of older folks have them.

AS far as I myself personally. There is life in this old dog yet:D:D;)

She should get a scooter and you get access to the sanctuary for the entire cruise without telling her!!

OR

Get your cabin changed to a different deck and "forget" to tell her your new cabin number...hehehe!

Ditch the "friend" and enjoy your cruise.

Maybe the friend is thinking of using a cruise to recuperate and plans on spending a lot of time in the cabin and on her balcony. Maybe it is difficult for her to walk. I went on a cruise shortly after surgery and it is scary not knowing how much you'll be able to do. That said, it would be wise for her to know her limitations before she gets there. I could easily walk the 8 cabins, but sometimes long distances were hard. If she can't walk the 8 cabins width and doesn't use some other method to move around (scooter, etc.), then she is probably better off staying home until she has more mobility. I hate to judge someone who I don't know. OTOH, if you're a good friend and really want her to be with you and you are able bodied, then maybe it's not that tough for you to change cabins. If I had an ill friend and wanted her to be with me, I'd do what I could to help. It's up to you and her to figure it out.
