No self laundry services on Celebrity Solstice

For over 20 years Royal and Celebrity have been designing/building ships without self service laundries. Azamara bought a couple of ships from the defunct Renaissance line. They were not built for the company.

Why people keep on harping about something the companies have avoided for two decades is beyond comprehension.

If a self service laundry is the most critical point in picking your cruise line you will never find it with Royal or Celebrity.

And Celebrity has never put a full promenade on any of their ships and would be surprised if they did it on the new ships.

To see part of the reason Celebrity has not seen the need for laundry rooms and Princess does is take a look at the length of cruises both company offers. Celebrity offer relatively few longer than 16 days, and nothing longer than 19 that is not a cruise tour or cruise/river tour combination. Princess on the other hand has a number of cruises longer than 20 days, with a number in the thirty and forty day range (not even counting the world cruise at over 100 days). Hard to fit clothes for that long into a suitcase or two. At one time or another during the year every Princess ship has a cruise over 20 days.

That is a very valid point. I didn't realize that Celebrity didn't have longer itineraries.

Very well said. Some of us take a cruise that lasts for more than seven days. Some of us extend our cruise vacation several days on land both before and after the cruise. Some of us have clothes that do get dirty. Some of us do not want to pay in excess of $50 to have clothes laundered that we could do ourselves for about $5. I have found some of the comments quite snarky. Please don't tell me how to spend my time and money and I won't tell you how to spend yours. I do not go to the bars to drink nor do I play the casino, but I have no objection to those who do so. Please respect the fact that some of us would indeed use a self-serve laundry.

I agree. On my 12 day Med cruise on Princess, the self-serve laundry was a great thing to have. The Med in August is just a little bit hot & humid  and some clothes that I would normally be able to wear a couple times before needing to wash were in the laundry bag after wearing for just a few hours. Every few days, my Mom and I would take clothes down to the laundry room, go back to our cabin a few doors down and start getting ready for dinner, go back 25 minutes or so later and move the clothes to the dryer. Go finish getting ready for dinner and then go retrieve the clothes. It didn't really take much time out of our day because we'd do laundry at the time we'd be in the cabin anyway. Also, it was nice to have clean clothes in a couple hours instead of sending them out and waiting two or three days to see them again.

Last cruise and first time with a Butler, such a nice man and so eager to please - and of course we tipped well as we went along. One day upon return from a port we found that he had "surprised" us with having all our laundry comped as we are not Elite.

I had a storage cube next to my pop up hamper and he took that also. It was the storage for every bra except the one I was wearing  My planned cocktail dress for the night did not get worn as I didn't have the proper under garment.

My clothes that never go through a dryer came back shrunk, whites a deep gray and numerous bras of every color where put into a hot dryer and ruined. THAT IS WHY I would LOVE self serve laundry. Next cruise the Butler will be told not to touch our clothes.

We are not wealthy people but I kept quiet about the damages - which would have been substantial - I didn't have the heart to hurt our Butler by reporting it when he was trying to be so kind. We laugh about our "laundry heist" now.

What I cannot understand is - if you don't wish to do your own laundry onboard, why do you care if I do. There are plenty of ways they can place a laundry that would have no impact on fellow cruisers. Live and let live.

 The great laundry heist. The butler did it :D Poor guy. I wouldn't have thought a cabin attendant would ever touch a passengers clothes, but I guess it's a possibility to be aware of on future cruises.

Very well said!

We also take long extended vacations and having a place to iron a few things or do a load of laundry is very helpful. It would be more than a few dollars for us to catch up on laundry during the cruise portion of our vacation which is sandwiched between to land tours with no opportunity to do laundry.

On my HAL cruise in Europe, then charged me $7.00 a day for an 11 day cruise which was $77 total for unlimited laundry service for our cabin. I really wish Celebrity had something similiar, it would help. Not everyone is elite and gets the laundry coupons.

We just came off a 2 week HAL cruise after a 3 week land trip and used HAL's unlimited laundry service. It was really wonderful. Not only were we able to start our cruise with clean clothes, but arrived home not having to do laundry instantly.

I thought Celebrity had a "bag full" service?

Hey,

Call your TA....they might be able to get you free laundry. mine got me 200.00 in OBC when they were not offering any....never know...if they can get you more OBC then that would offset the cost of laundry.

Celebrity does not have laundry rooms. Bring enough clothes, wash what you can in the cabin sink, send dirty clothes to the ship laundry, or stay home and wash clothes? Choice is what you get on Celebrity. I have been on ships with laundry rooms. They are often crowded with lines. I don't want to spend my time doing laundry. I am on vacation. I don't cook, clean, or do laundry. I would like to see Celebrity sell unlimited laundry like Windstar and Holland America. Windstar was the best. Laundry was collected every morning and returned that afternoon....pressed on hangers....including the first and last days. I went home with a suitcase of clean clothes. It was the best arrival home. I didn't have to spend time at home washing the laundry from the cruise. To me that would be MODERN LUXURY!!!

It Celebrity is about choice, why don't they give me the choice to use a self-serve laundry?

I wonder if Windstar can now be added to the Some ship list with the acquisition of some of the Seabourn ships. Not sure if they kept the laundry rooms.

Great points there Jane2357. Why should it bother anyone on what you prefer to do with your laundry? I would love to see a self serve laundry on board as I like to wash my own clothes and not have them come back two sizes smaller and discolored. :)

Normally on CC it is multiple pages of people airing their dirty laundry.

True. :)

Most people I know like clean laundry and there are many thread over time about how to get free laundry service.

I was surprised by the number of cruise lines that do offer self service laundry.

  • 1 month later...

I clicked on the link of FAQ's mentioned in this thread and found the per item cost of laundry but does Celebrity offer an unlimited laundry package that you can purchase (not Elite)?

If not, does Clebrity offer a flat rate for a bag of laundry and how much?

We're doing 4 month in Europe and will need to do laundry frequently since we'll have to pack in one suitcase (per person) so we can handle our luggage when transferring from ships, trains, hotels, etc.
