50th Anniversary

Ok. I've never taken a cruise, so be gentle. Lol

My parents 50th wedding anniversary is coming this June. They asked me to plan a cruise. They have no particular destination in mind. We live in Houston, so obviously a cruise out of Texas will not require a flight. Neither would a cruise out of New Orleans.

However, they are looking at a "wow" factor. Things they like are eating and relaxing. I told them that maybe if we fly somewhere, we may get more of a wow bang.

Anyway, we are looking at something around 5 days, all inclusive (if it included all alcohol, would probably be better). Will fly anywhere in US. Too end budget is around $10,000/person, including air fare.

I would guess the best place to start would be to pick a top notch cruise line? I've heard of Carnaval and Royal Carribean. Any others that may be a bit nicer?

Any other ideas on where/what would be greatly appreciated.

You could also try Norwegian, Holland America, Celebrity, or Princess.

Cruise lines now offer beverage packages that you can purchase in addition to your cruise fare.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'wow factor'. I gladly cruise out of Houston, Galveston, and New Orleans.

You may also want to consider a little bit longer cruise, at least 7 days. I've done several shorter cruises and they usually are not as nice.

You will need to book a 7 day cruise to get what you want from the TX or LA ports. I suggest Royal Caribbean from Galveston. Their specialty dining is excellent and you can purchase a alcohol package. The ship is beautiful and one of the best class of ships in the fleet.

If your parents want WOW factor, and are able to spend $10,000pp, I suggest a suite on a Celebrity S class ship, with butler...Or a Haven suite on an NCL ship. NCL is not my chosen cruise line, but I understand they really do the suite life well. EM

Whew...I was thinking $10,000 pp was an awful lot!!!! If that was it, a true "luxury" line would be in order!!!

If I were you, I'd head to a local travel agency...pick up brochures and talk to the rep....they can point you in the right direction, as far as cruise line/amenities that would suit your parents. The brochures are the big thing....gives you a "feel" for each line...so get some!

Princess is currently having a special sale for those celebrating "50th" Anniversary as Princess Cruises is this year.

Your TA will have the details.

I would definitely talk to a cruise specialist (a TA whose knowledgeable about cruises). Princess is our line of choice and I would echo an Alaskan cruise for June. Of course, $2,000 is a lot less than $10,000 if you want to include air fare. If you go with a RT out of Seattle, the flights will be less expensive than for the one-ways (which means one flight will be into or out of Anchorage). The scenery is fantastic and with Princess having their celebration, this would be a great year to cruise on them.

As we see in a later post, OP really doesn't have $10k/person. But, you can get an Oceania cruise at a reasonable price including air, etc.

If "wow" is the end point, skip the mass market cruise lines.
