phabric Posted February 22, 2016 #2501 Share Posted February 22, 2016 Yes i missed the flight. Was a very long day and frustrating end to a great cruise. One person in our group had Nexus but since we all didn't we couldn't go to that line. Will apply for Nexus now![/QUOTe} Did Air Canada charge you a fee to change to a later flight? Lizzzys Posted February 22, 2016 #2502 Share Posted February 22, 2016 We applied on the weekend too :) I applied first and Ron didn't see the value so I told him I'd meet him at the gate from now on ;) He applied. lol.
mvannie Posted February 22, 2016 #2503 Share Posted February 22, 2016 As an FYI, I applied for mine Feb 3, and I had my conditional approval by the 11th. It was then that I booked my interview at Pearson for Late May.
maryann2 Posted February 22, 2016 #2504 Share Posted February 22, 2016 tHe Customs line issue was actually at the Pier and not FLL. The airport customs was done in Toronto, so no delays getting to gate once we got to FLL. Just remember to ask for Nexus line in pier building as there was no clear signage that I could see that would direct you there. When I went through the line when getting off the ship a few weeks ago there was a separate line for Global Entry Sign (empty) and I was escorted to the front. As an FYI, I applied for mine Feb 3, and I had my conditional approval by the 11th. It was then that I booked my interview at Pearson for Late May. That was quick. Once conditionally approved you would likely have a choice of sites for the interview. It would have been a couple of months for me to use Vancouver so I went across the border to Blaine and had an appt in a few days. Might just mention in my email today I had an invitation to apply for the UK trusted site. However 70 pounds for the first year and 50 pounds each year afterwards so I will not be applying. Our $50 for 5 years is a steal.

moopetguy Posted February 22, 2016 #2507 Share Posted February 22, 2016 (edited) Also, claim EVERYTHING with Nexus. Caught once and your Nexus is taken away. I can't imagine if caught cheating how you would be treated after losing your trusted traveller label. It would be back to the old ways and line ups. I've been a NEXUS member for about 3 years now. I've used it in air and land mode several times, hope to try marine mode someday :) I always declare all my purchases -- I have no reason not to, as I'm always ridiculously well under the personal exemption limits. I prefer to spend my money "doing things" rather than "buying stuff". Sometimes I'll return to Canada having purchased maybe $50-$100 CAD worth of stuff after having been away for a week. I've often wondered if this is atypical or suspiciously low? I'm actually a bit surprised that I've never been called in for secondary inspection as a result of how little I bring back during my trips. Lizzzys Posted February 22, 2016 #2508 Share Posted February 22, 2016 Nope, we typically don't have much more than that to declare either. I thought they might want to confiscate our spices from Granada but I was upfront about it on the declaration, they asked a few questions and we were on our way. I'm actually a bit surprised that I've never been called in for secondary inspection as a result of how little I bring back during my trips. I don't think it is suspiciously low. We have been that low before and sometimes higher. One time (prior to Nexus) at Pearson T1 we were well over the week's limit. The interviewing agent didn't really ask us much in questions and stamped our card. We figured we would be sent over to the payment area, right where they collect the declaration cards prior to leaving the secure area. That agent took our card and sent us on our way. We could not believe we did not have to pay the duty and taxes. What ever the case we kept on walking in a bit of disbelief. Needless to say we have kept these reciepts as they could ask us one day to prove if they had been declared and what the purchase value is. I highly doubt this will happen, but we have been deemed trusted travellers. Now that our dollar has hit the skids we might sellectively purchase items while away, that are either unique or true deals after exchange. However with our last few out of country trips our totals are at $100 for two of us.
hancogran Posted February 22, 2016 #2510 Share Posted February 22, 2016 If we're on a cruise for a week or two, we never have much to declare either. When our Canadian dollar was better, quite often we'd go to Niagara Falls, NY for the day. It's only about an hour drive for us. We'd pick up some grocery items that we can't get in Canada and whatever else but we'd always declare the actual value. Usually, it was around $100 but we have never had a secondary inspection, and we've never had to pay any type of duty or taxes. We never bring liquor or beer back if we're only over for the day but always have a bottle of liquor each when returning from a cruise, or when we've been over for three or four days and are entitled to bring it back. Maybe the CBP feel sorry for us because they just wave us through.:D

Always thought any flight changes were subject to some type of charge. We got on the 9:30 flight to Toronto and were very happy with Air Canada that day! :D
Virtopia Posted February 23, 2016 #2514 Share Posted February 23, 2016 That happened on my Enchantment cruise. We knew of the flight but were unable to get all 4 of us on it originally. We got to the airport and just took a chance asking at the counter. Before I could even ask the cost of the change, the nice man gave me our new tickets and a wink :)

Patch21 Posted February 23, 2016 #2516 Share Posted February 23, 2016 (edited) I usually have euros left from previous trips but you could get some small bills from your bank before you go.I always use ATMs in Europe to withdraw from my debit card. Hey Maryann, Hope you are doing fine. It has been awhile since the IOS Red and White Party. The Atm's in Europe esp. Italy, Greece etc are very spotty and limited access. Spent the better part of a Day trying to find one open and that was working with my Bank card. Don't visit the UK often enough to spend that much. On another note, when we got off our cruise ship in Sydney, AU, I asked personnel there about the location of their Nexus/Global Entry. Got this blank look. I explained what it was, and was told she'd never heard of anything like this in Australia. Anyone else had this happen 'down under'?

Regarding NEXUS in Australia, NEXUS is a Canada - USA program only. Global Entry is only for clearance into the USA. There is a trusted traveller program in Australia, but I can't remember the name of it, Again, I don't travel there enough to make it worth while. Toddcan Posted February 23, 2016 #2519 Share Posted February 23, 2016 Hmm, I live 10 minutes from the border in Niagara, and I don't have a nexus card. Odd. I cross the border 2-3 times per month - but I usually go early in the morning with no lines anyway. But, this summer, we fly to Hawaii out of Pearson.. might want to get one of those suckers, eh? Canadian Tyler Posted February 26, 2016 #2522 Share Posted February 26, 2016 Has anyone heard of an upcoming sale for Canadian residents? I saw a TA advertising one starting tomorrow but not sure if it's a Royal sale or just through that specific TA. Guess we will see tomorrow!
