rockymtn2 Posted May 25, 2015 #203 Share Posted May 25, 2015 We arrive at Stadsgården S167 on June 1 on the Serenade of the Seas. Our current plan is to take the Strömma HoHo Boat directly to the Vasa Museum with a single stop ticket. For the rest of our day, we want to use a 24 hr. Travelcard. Will we be able to buy the Travelcard at the port or somewhere near the Vasa Museum? Will we be able to use a credit card for the HoHo Boat and the Travelcard? I'm trying to figure out how many krona I should travel with before finding an ATM. Thanks!
Desdichado62 Posted May 26, 2015 Author #204 Share Posted May 26, 2015 Yes you should be able to buy travel cards at the tourist kiosk where your ship berths. I don't know if they accept credit cards but I am pretty sure that they do, as for Strömma I don't know either it didn't say on their website if they did or not. goofy559 Posted May 26, 2015 #205 Share Posted May 26, 2015 Hi - we are arriving in Stockholm on June 24 on Ocean Princess. We dock at V523 VÄRTAHAMNEN - is this close to the HOHO boats? Thinking this would be a good option for my mom (86) and daughter (16) as our port time is only 7-2. Thanks!
Desdichado62 Posted May 26, 2015 Author #206 Share Posted May 26, 2015 Goofy, no HoHo boats there unfortunately, bus #76 towards Norra Hammarbyhamnen is the only option. Get off at Djurgårdsbron and follow signs to Vasa.
welshaussie Posted May 27, 2015 #207 Share Posted May 27, 2015 Hi Desdi.... We are looking forward to our visit to Stockholm on the Eurodam Saturday 20 June from 10am, leaving Sun 21st at 4pm. I have a heap of things I've printed from your excellent info and links and have learnt a lot - thanks - but I have a few questions - 1. We'll be there on the Saturday and Sunday of the Midsummer holiday weekend. I guess some shops and other things will be closed, but will this effect the transport also? Any special holiday things on that we shouldn't miss? 2. On the latest map links it appears that 'buses 53 and 93 are the only ones passing S167 at Londonviadukten to get to Slussen - is this correct? When I do a street view of the area, I see long red buses with 400+ numbers, do they still go that way and are they included in the Travelcard? We hope to get a 24hr card at the cruise terminal and use public transport - more fun! 3. What number should I look for at S167 to get to the Centralen - Sergels Torv area please? I found some Walking Tours that start from there. Looks like maybe 53 goes that way? 4. To get to the Vasa from Slussen, is it still a choice between the 76 bus to Djurgadsbron - or the ferry to Allmanna Grand? I printed the two Slussen Bus Terminal plans that you linked to - they both appear to be in the Tunnelbana area, before the bridge, but I cannot find them on street view at all - guess if we get off the bus there, all will become clear! I hope! Thanks again for your help...........Ann & Bill :confused: Two ex-Welsh, now Aussie very active senior citizens

To some extent yes but public transport (buses, harbour ferries and etc) uses Sunday schedule for all red days (in this case Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st). There will be traditional Swedish festivities at Skansen the entire weekend so if you want to have a Swedish midsummer there is where to go. http://www.skansen.se/en/calendar?start_date[value][date]=2015-06-19&end_date[value][date]=2015-06-27&&page=1 http://www.skansen.se/en/aktivitet/midsommardagen http://www.skansen.se/sv/tema/midsommar-pa-skansen 2. 53 is just one of several lines that passes Londonviadukten, if you just want to go to Slussen any bus that stops at Londonviadukten will also stop at Slussen. All buses operated by SL is included in the travelcard. The 400 buses are not inner city buses but goes out to Stockholm outer areas like Nacka, Sundbyberg, Värmdö and etc from Slussen. 9x buses are night buses. 3. There is no bus that goes all the way to Sergels torg, either you go with bus #53 to the central station and walk from there or change bus at Slussen. http://sl.se/en/#/Travel/SearchTravelById/Londonviadukten%20%28Stockholm%29/Sergels%20torg%20%28Stockholm%29/1461/1000/2015-06-20%252008_00/depart/en/null/null/2,8,1,4,96,/null/null/null/null/null/true/null/0/0/null 4. Yes that is correct. As for the slussen terminal some buses stops at Slussen subway entrance and Södermalmstorg. https://www.google.se/maps/dir/Slussen+T-bana/59.3202815,18.0716578/@59.3199596,18.071813,137m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m9!4m8!1m5!1m1!1s0x465f77fb539ae3c7:0x6843f2b1e9bfe7a9!2m2!1d18.072331!2d59.319495!1m0!3e2 Bus #53 route to Slussen: https://www.google.se/maps/dir/Londonviadukten/Folkungagatan/59.3156216,18.0890315/Tj%C3%A4rhovsplan/Glasbruksgatan/59.3195584,18.0726341/@59.3192847,18.0738197,17z/data=!4m28!4m27!1m5!1m1!1s0x465f7803959e0e13:0x9b15ae72da636cca!2m2!1d18.096852!2d59.314729!1m5!1m1!1s0x465f78023fe87351:0x19081ef7e91343cd!2m2!1d18.092347!2d59.315652!1m0!1m5!1m1!1s0x465f77f9114f347f:0xa31cfb524b245195!2m2!1d18.083318!2d59.316448!1m5!1m1!1s0x465f77fb8f5301d5:0xca81021da19f32aa!2m2!1d18.077886!2d59.318752!1m0!3e2 Some of the other buses stops further down at the eastern side of the bridge next to Stadsgårdsleden. http://sl.se/ficktid/karta/vinter/Slussen_term.pdf https://www.google.se/maps/@59.320134,18.074206,3a,43.9y,285.57h,83.59t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1s_92qY08PfAh0gvY6cPL2Gg!2e0 https://www.google.se/maps/dir/Slussen+T-bana/59.3201216,18.0735935/@59.3197969,18.0750592,269m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m9!4m8!1m5!1m1!1s0x465f77fb539ae3c7:0x6843f2b1e9bfe7a9!2m2!1d18.072331!2d59.319495!1m0!3e2 Edited May 27, 2015 by Desdichado62

maggipie Posted May 30, 2015 #211 Share Posted May 30, 2015 Wow, Desdichado62, thanks for your very amazing, very thorough post!! I am planning our <9 hours in port on June 19, and appreciate your info that this day is actually Midsummers eve; looking forward to enjoying the celebrations at Skansen :) It sounds like our only options for transport from Frihamnen is 76 bus and taxi. Given the less frequent bus schedule (but not as slow as the Sat/Sun!), do you advise taking a taxi instead? (For my family of 4, so taking into account bus fare for 4 vs taxi). Do taxis charge more during holiday periods? Probably taxis are easy to get from Frihamnen? I saw Uber is in Stockholm, do you have any experience with Uber there? (Uber here in Northern California is fantastic!!) Thanks in advance for sharing your time and knowledge!
Desdichado62 Posted May 30, 2015 Author #212 Share Posted May 30, 2015 (edited) Taxi cost (Taxi Stockholm used for reference) would be about 21 USD, bus (2 adults, 2 people under 20) would be around 13-14 USD. Don't know if taxis are easy to get, probably it would be preferable to book a taxi. I don't have any personal experience but they are being investigated for unlawful taxi business. http://sverigesradio.se/sida/artikel.aspx?programid=83&artikel=6161475 http://www.taxiforbundet.se/nyheter/2015/05/svenska-taxifoerbundet-vaelkomnar-granskning-av-uber.aspx Edited May 30, 2015 by Desdichado62

Desdichado62 Posted June 5, 2015 Author #214 Share Posted June 5, 2015 (edited) Nonio, yes I know where they dock this season but Princess Cruises have applied to dock in central Stockholm and that is why where are tests and simulations going on to see if they can allow the Princess ships into Stockholm. Hi there I may not have been clear enough. The flexible dock was for Nynasham to avoid the use of tenders, not for use in Stockholm, given that the larger ships have problems navigating the final passage. The source of my info was the Nynasham Information office. Hope that helps! Sorry for double post but it took a while to find the thread I was looking for. I have written some about it before in these threads: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2081517 http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2029064&page=2 P&O's M/S Britannia which is of the same size as Royal/Regal Princess today sailed all the way into Stockholm and is currently berthed at Stadsgårdskajen S167. http://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/details/ships/shipid:1873308/mmsi:235106595/imo:9614036/vessel:BRITANNIA Hopefully this means that Royal/Regal Princess also will be allowed to sail into central Stockholm when the weather allows it. It would be wonderful for me if it (Royal Princess) did for my hols...but We sail a week today and I can't see Princess changing all their tours and itineraries that are booked to start at Nynasham...much tho' I'd love it if they did.. I do know that the Queen Elizabeth did not make it to Stockholm at all a couple of weeks ago, following discussions between the captain and the pilot. QE is quite a bit smaller than Royal Princess/Brittannia. I wonder what is going on?!
TigerLadyK Posted June 6, 2015 #216 Share Posted June 6, 2015 (edited) I know the preferred order is to start at Vasa and go from there, but our ship does not even get into port until 9am. So I am thinking getting there at 10am will not beat the crowds. Is there a point in the afternoon the crowds thin a bit? If we got there at 3pm what sort of wait to get in can I expect? Carolla5501 Posted June 9, 2015 #219 Share Posted June 9, 2015 So I did some digging around and it appears that if I want to buy a bottle of wine I have to do it before 3 PM on Saturday? Is that correct? RCCL will let us take two bottles on board and I am trying to figure out how to obtain the wine. The ship sails on Sunday and we don't land until 12:15 on Saturday. We are staying at the Hilton. Anyplace right by there I could race out and buy the two bottles? (I certainly hate to import wine from Atlanta! Option two is to see if I can buy it in AMS but...) It is in Söderhallarna at Medborgarplatsen. This is not a regular Systembolaget, it is a specialist wine shop with a wide selection of wines and very wellinformed staff who can help with recommendations. They close at 3.00 pm on Saturdays. I hope that Desdichado can help with a map, he/she does that much better than I can do. Söderhallarna is one of our three food markets in Stockholm and a nice place to visit. Medborgarplatsen is a very lively place, most so during the summer when the place is full of outdoor restaurants, very popular among us locals.
