Anything starting with a "D" is some abbreviation for a family member: husband, wife, daughter, son, sister, mother, father, friend . . . You'll note several of those begin with the same letter, meaning it's guesswork at best to figure out to whom any given post is actually referring.

 

Apparently, the resistance to spelling things out is based on the assumption that the keyboard will wear out if the letters are actually used too much. Somewhat similar to drivers who resist use of the turn signal, fearing it will invalidate their warranty, I presume.

AARP - American Association of Retired Persons (U.S.)

AMEX - American Express

B2B or BTB- Back to Back cruises, usually on the same ship

BF - Boy Friend

BTW - by the way

CC - Cruise Critic

CD - cruise director

CDC - Center for disease control

DD - dear daughter

DD# - dear daughter, the # represents their age

DDIL - dear Daughter In Law

DF - Dear Friend

DGD - Dear Granddaughter

DGS - Dear Grandson

DH - dear husband

DOD - Drink of the day

DS - dear son

DS# - dear son, the # represents their age

DSiL - dear Son In Law

DW - dear wife

e-Docs - Electronic Documents

F&B - Food and Beverage director

FAQ - Frequently asked question

FIL - Father In Law

FOB - Friends of Bill W (AA Meeting)

FOD - Friends of Dorothy (LGBT Meeting)

FWIW - for what it's worth

FYI - for your information

GF - Girl Friend

GTY - Guaranteed cabin (just not which one in the Category of the GTY)

HC - "handicapped cabin", cabin designed for people with mobility issues

LOL - laughing out loud

M&G - Meet and Greet

MDR - Main Dining Room

MIL - Mother In Law

OBC - On Board Credits

OTOH - on the other hand

PAX - passenger/s

ROFL - rolling on floor laughing out loud

SO - Significant Other

TSA - Transportation Security Administration (U.S. security)

WIFI - wireless internet connection

YMMV - Your mileage may vary (Your view, opinion or experience may vary)

I had a little problem with that list on the cruise i am going on...I am going with my sister -- I couldn't say DS since that is "son", not sister :D So, I just wrote "sister" :D:D although, she is "dear" to me :D

On Princess it is not a "Lifeboat Drill" it is referred to as "The Ship's General Drill". I found this out while scheduling our last Meet and Greet on our Eastern Med Cruise with one of the reply's that said you can have Skywalkers following "The Ships General Drill".

Be careful using CC. I have seen it used for Cruise Critic, Credit Card, Captain's Circle, Club Class.

 

If there is any question about something you are going to type, spell it out. If you don't have time to type it out, you probably don't have time to be on this forum.
