Pop and Peppy Posted June 12, 2015 #1 Share Posted June 12, 2015 First Princess cruise for us. Please give us some info about the cruise cards, such as: do you carry it at all times and if so, where do you carry it…..in a pocket or around your neck on a lanyard. I realize that it is needed when reboarding the ship, compulsory attendance for lifeboat drill and when ordering non-free items. Is the card the key to your cabin? Thanks for your help , Peppy
Bogof1 Posted June 12, 2015 #2 Share Posted June 12, 2015 Yes you need to keep it with you. It's the key to room also depending on ship operates the lights. Just make sure you keep it away from your phone or it won't work. I sometimes wear on lanyard under the shirt or in my pocket. They will punch it for you in casino on embarking day and if you lucky you may get a lanyard if u ask
Nan_Sea Posted June 12, 2015 #3 Share Posted June 12, 2015 Yes, the card is also the cabin key. Some people keep it in a pocket and some use a lanyard.
GUT2407 Posted June 12, 2015 #4 Share Posted June 12, 2015 Your card is everything. You pay with it. If you have any freebies they will show via your card. It is your pass on and off the ship. It is your room key.
GUT2407 Posted June 12, 2015 #5 Share Posted June 12, 2015 Forgot to say Some carry it on a Lanyard. Some in a purse or wallet I just stick it in my pocket.
paul929207 Posted June 12, 2015 #6 Share Posted June 12, 2015 We wear ours on a lanyard when we are on the ship. In port, it goes into a pocket.
sunnygidget Posted June 12, 2015 #7 Share Posted June 12, 2015 I get a hole punched at the front desk and put a split ring with a carabiner clip on it. It hooks on my belt loop, so it doesn't slip out of my pocket.
skynight Posted June 12, 2015 #8 Share Posted June 12, 2015 If you purchase one of the soda packages or the All Inclusive Beverage Package that shows as a sticker on your card.
300dtc Posted June 12, 2015 #9 Share Posted June 12, 2015 I either put it in my pocket if i have jeans or shorts on or i have a tiny crossbody that i keep my card in if i have no pockets, you do need to have it with you all the time. Have fun on your first cruise!
Colo Cruiser Posted June 12, 2015 #10 Share Posted June 12, 2015 Mined is on a lanyard attached to a belt loop and tucked in my pocket. I have left it laying somewhere too many times, so its attached to me. ;)
AlaskaGolden Posted June 12, 2015 #11 Share Posted June 12, 2015 I agree with all the above. The only time we are never sure what to do with the card is in the pools, hot tubs and Thermal Suite/Enclave -- basically when wearing/using a bathing suit. rpcv77 Posted June 12, 2015 #12 Share Posted June 12, 2015 Personal preferences on how to carry the card, but we all agree that you need to carry it at all times. I wear a lanyard for my ID and keys at work so, in order to escape completely, don't wear one on a cruise. I have a small, lightweight cross body bag that has slots for cards. I use this bag for all travel instead of a wallet or purse.
pppatpc2 Posted June 12, 2015 #13 Share Posted June 12, 2015 For security, it doesn't have your cabin number on it. Everything you get charged goes by the "Folio" number that shows on your card. I keep mine for a souvenier. Fun fact I heard on our last cruise- the number on the far bottom right is how many Princess cruises you have been on, yours probably won't show a number since this is your first one. For everyone who has been, you can see how many and add the one you are currently on to the total. I found this out from a lovely man named Ray we met on the transatlantic Royal trip last month, he was on his 100th cruise, 34th on Princess. BTW Ray, if you're out there, thanks for the tip on the veteran's hat, my father-in-law is going to be very pleased on Father's Day. :)
Thrak Posted June 12, 2015 #14 Share Posted June 12, 2015 Left rear pocket. Always. Same place I keep my hotel room keys when traveling on land. I never have any confusion as to where I put it and I always slap that pocket before leaving the room to verify the card is in place. Sometimes habits are a good thing. :)

I probably have some Princess record for demagnetizing cards Sometimes it's hard to teach me something. LOL
crochetcruise Posted June 13, 2015 #16 Share Posted June 13, 2015 Mined is on a lanyard attached to a belt loop and tucked in my pocket.I have left it laying somewhere too many times, so its attached to me. ;) I have my unit key on a lanyard that hangs off the handle of my walker when I'm not wearing it. Seems to work for me. I also make sure to HOLD the key in my hand as I go out the door, and manually lock the screen door from the outside for security. Never yet locked myself out, or lost the key using this method. When I cruise, I plan to put my unit key in the safe and use that lanyard for my cruise card when I go swimming. I'm also buying a new lanyard specially for cruising, probably black to identify which lanyard is which! Crochetcruise

Rare trbarton Posted June 13, 2015 #18 Share Posted June 13, 2015 I have a small holder about the size of a credit card that hangs around my neck. I wear it everywhere. To the question about swimming I wrap it up in my towel along with my suntan lotion. Perhaps other people will respond what they do when swimming or in the jacuzzi. In ships where you need something for the light an old cruise card works fine. Tom😎
Putterdude Posted June 13, 2015 #19 Share Posted June 13, 2015 I am not a lanyard person. I carry mine in a card case in whatever pocket is available. When going ashore I will put a DL in the case with the cruise card, a credit card and some cash. Unfortunately I have been known to go swimming with all of the above ....which isn't good.:D
Rare PescadoAmarillo Posted June 13, 2015 #20 Share Posted June 13, 2015 I kept mine on a lanyard until I started needing reading glasses. Now I keep it in a very small macrame purse and that has a zipped pocket inside the lining and holds it (and my coffee card) perfectly. Off the ship, it's always on a lanyard under my shirt. Putterdude Posted June 13, 2015 #23 Share Posted June 13, 2015 (edited) Now that I have a black card I hang it from a lanyard, where everyone can see it. ;) Yes, I always get a kick out of how some people go to great effort to be sure that people see their black card......which is why I keep mine in a card case in my pocket.:) Edited June 13, 2015 by Putterdude To add the word "some"
cruisehappy001 Posted June 13, 2015 #24 Share Posted June 13, 2015 We always go to the Casino when they open and they have someone with a hole puncher and a bunch of the elastic coil cords with a little key style ring on one end and a clip of sorts that opens so that you could attach it to a belt loop or he like. They have these in casinos so that you can play with the card inserted in the machine while tethered to you so that you don't forget it. We simply connect the latching end to the key ring end as a loop to wear around our neck like a lanyard. We like this as opposed to a lanyard as these are elastic and you can leave it on your neck and still use the card to open the cabin door without any fumbling to find our card. When we go the the pool or hot tubs we just put it under clothes or a towel on a deck chair with cameras and everything else and have never had a problem. Picture attached as my words are not as clear as a picture! Happy Cruising! Mark
