Slant the chairs diagonally. These aren't that much bigger than DCL's and we're a tall-ish family as well and that's what we do when we chill in the balcony -- which is quite often.

The standard balconies are very small on NCLs new ships. The hump cabins are slightly better. This pic tells the story. My family sailed Breakaway and liked it enough to book again next year.

 

 

Ah, so they are like the Regal Princess. I had this balcony for 3 nights and that was enough. I would not enjoy these tiny little balconies for a week or longer. Not to mention, as narrow as this balcony is, it looks even wider than Breakaway Class.

OMG! There is no leg room on that balcony! Thank you for sharing that photo. I would not book a balcony room with that size balcony. Would you book another balcony room again with NCL?

 

Note to the poster who will be sailing the first time with RCCL on Brilliance, that was my least favorite RCCL ship because the area near the shops was so narrow. I have gotten spoiled with the Promenade shops on Freedom of the Seas. However, there are those who love the Brilliance. Hopefully you will have a wonderful cruise.

They are barely smaller than DCL Dream-class ships. Not sure how big they are in Oasis-class, but I would hardly say that's a negative on NCL.

Definitely not a positive, but not a deal breaker either -- at least not for us -- specially with reasonable savings with NCL.

 

That said, is every balcony room in the Oasis class that large? If so, that's impressive.

If there is a flaw(?) to the Getaway/Breakaway, it is the balconies are too small.

That said they are still far more likable ships to us then the Oasis Shopping Mall Class.:)

Michael, if you're looking at top end cruising, a lot of service, the following is our opinion,,,,

1) MSC Yacht Club (awesome service for a price slightly higher then a RCL Jr.)

2) NCL The Haven (same excellent service as MSC Yacht Club, but more $)

3) Celebrity Suite (access to Michael's Club Lounge)

4) RCL Suite (access to the Concierge Club)

Carnival Corp, don't bother, very little perks.

This is why I am giving NCL a try. Smaller balconies and and all. Price was great, Haven looks wonderful and everything was included. Dining package, beverage package some OBC. Had to give it a try. The shows, freestyle dining, slides and rope course are also very appealing to us.

I prefer Royal, however, for the Bermuda cruise from NYC, it is hard not to go with NCL. Royal's 5 night price is about the same as NCL's 7 night price. 3 days in Bermuda will always win over 2 days ! We just sailed NCL Breakaway to Bermuda in July 2015. It was a wonderful cruise, made even more wonderful by having FREE drinks. NCL had/has a promo where you can choose among some free perks, one of them being complimentary alcoholic drinks.

The first time we tried NCL, Breakaway to Bahamas we decided it was not for us. A few months later we were looking for a Hawaii cruise and decided after cancelling another cruise the POA was the best cruise for a first timer to Hawaii. We were so happy we decided on the POA. It is the only cruise for Hawaii, overnight in Kauai and Maui. We loved that cruise!! Food so much better than Breakaway and the only cruise for Hawaii. We really like our PCS at NCL and currently have a couple booked for next year. Royal is still out first choice and we have a few booked with them but I didn't let the first cruise on NCL determine future cruises. Quantum totally disappointed us but we still are cruising on RCI.

We loved the Oasis class ships on RCI, our favorite. Allure was wonderful, the shows. the food, service was good. We can't wait to cruise on the Harmony in 2017. I would also like to hear more detail about the negatives on NCL from the OP. When we cruised on the Breakaway the dining was horrible in the restaurants, the orders were all messed up and they were standing around laughing about it, never seen anything like that on any cruise. We ate in the specialty restaurants after that, very good on NCL. We also cruised on Carnival and OMG the first time was a nightmare from beginning to end but we gave it another chance and did have some really good cruises (and some bad) but every cruise line has good and bad. Glad we gave some a second chance.

Those tiny balconies are also going to be on the brand new Escape. I booked us in a B6 which is a large balcony.

 

I wanted to give this new class of ship a shot. If I don't love it then it will probably be a long time before I return to NCL.

Was on the Epic in March and loved it. The entertainment was so much better than my January 2015 on RCCL Jewel. My 1st 2 cruises were on NCL way back in the 1990's.

I had a balcony on Breakaway and while it was small it was usable. I really did not like Breakaway for other reasons. The least professional crew I have been on in years, the food was terrible in the buffet, service in the MDR was slow. Some of the specialty restaurants were okay but nothing special. The ship was overcrowded and the main public areas were smokey because the casino opens out into the public areas and the second hand smoke is not contained

No hidden meaning. I simply meant "other ships" - those pictures that were posted on this RCI board were of NCL and Princess ships. My comment was genuine - I am sincerely thankful for the photos. :)
