Rare conandrob240 Posted September 19, 2015 #1 Share Posted September 19, 2015 Have seen there is a 1am curfew. I have never seen this on any other cruise. On NCL, teen programming runs until 2am and our teen often went to O'Sheehans after that or they played games in the card room ( left open for them by NCL teen counselors). How much is this enforced? If the teens head to pizza place at 1 or 2am, are they going to be turned away? This is for Anthem specifically but I guess the question can be answered more broadly for other ships. Clarea Posted September 19, 2015 #2 Share Posted September 19, 2015 I don't know how much the curfew is enforced, but I've seen it enforced a few times.
Stormy15 Posted September 19, 2015 #3 Share Posted September 19, 2015 I don't know how much it is enforced but I saw very little late night activity from anyone on my recent Navigator cruise. Even the casino closed earlier than I expected each night. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Rare Lionesss Posted September 19, 2015 #4 Share Posted September 19, 2015 Having sailed RCI on 4 cruises when our DD was under 18..... I can tell you first hand they do enforce the curfew unless you are with a "fuel" club event, or going back to your cabin close to 1 am. Our dear daughters curfew when she was 17 was 1am. the ships curfew and many a night she made it short of breath racing into the cabin. Once she cut it close and she told us that security was already present by the promenade to enforce the curfew. Now on our last Freedom sailing the last night we told her if she was with her friends and she was a "little" late we would understand. Just give us a heads up. She called us from one of the phones by the elevator banks that they were finsihing their pizza and would be back by 1:30. Well, low and behold the security forces strolled down the promenade from customer services and our DD and crew exited the oppisite way, caught an elevator and safely made it in. If your out late, the first time we have seen them walk the kids back to their cabins. Do not know what happens after that. Enjoy.

The enforcement is not consistent. Your teens should assume that on THEIR cruise, the curfew is being enforced. I would think that being visible and going up to a counter to get food would make it MORE likely that they would be caught and marched back to their cabins! If they want to "fly under the radar", they should get their food BEFORE 1. Or you could stay up with them. The curfew applies to UNACCOMPANIED (by an adult/parent) minors. Maybe. It depends on the ship and the staff.
Rare brillohead Posted September 19, 2015 #9 Share Posted September 19, 2015 The 1am curfew was enforced on Freedom in June. No problem getting served at Sorrento's or Cafe Promenade, but Deck Patrol strolled through the Promenade after 1am and rounded up the under-age kids and sent them "home". Ashland Posted September 19, 2015 #12 Share Posted September 19, 2015 Just off the ROS two weeks ago and highlighted every day in the Cruise Compass was..."1:00am Mandatory Curfew for guiests 17 and under"... the only time this wouldn't apply is if that underager was with their parents. Rare conandrob240 Posted September 20, 2015 Author #13 Share Posted September 20, 2015 I wanted to know what happened in practice not what's printed. Sounds very inconsistent. I paid a lot of $ for a cruise and my teen paid a full adult fare. I find it ridiculous that if he and some new friends want to sit getting pizza and talking at 2M that they can't do it. If they don't want them roaming around, they should give them a place they can go. What teen goes to sleep at 1am?!? They are nocturnal creatures! LOL And I hope Anthem isn't dead like others describe. Breakaway was crowded and rocking until at least 3am every night. It was a very lively cruise. Hoping that NYC energy carries over to Anthem. I'm getting worried I made a mistake switching to RCCL

Rare conandrob240 Posted September 20, 2015 Author #16 Share Posted September 20, 2015 Yes, they shouldn't drink, smoke, gamble or do drugs. They shouldn't be rowdy, engage is inappropriate/sexual behavior or be violent or agressive. They shouldn't bully other teens. And they should behave themselves in a respectful manner to people around them. Short of that, no, I don't think there should be a curfew. If group of well-behaved teens want to sit around and eat pizza and talk until the wee hours of the morning, I would love that. If they want to chase the sunrise while pouring their souls out to each like we all did 20 or 30 yrs ago, I'd love that too.

In todays world that's simply amazing. This isn't 20 or 30 years ago. Ships are cities with a bunch of strangers. And you're OK with that?
Rare conandrob240 Posted September 20, 2015 Author #18 Share Posted September 20, 2015 (edited) It's a vacation. At home, no, he has work and school so he doesn't usually stay out that late. But he certainly stays UP very late most weekend nights texting. If they had a way to get around, they'd probably be over each others' houses that late instead of texting but the reality of learners permits and tired parents sets in. He has generally stayed out to 2 or 3am with other teens on a cruise. We usually cruise NCL and they do the parties and activities until 2am and then hit O'Sheehans for food. I have no problem with that. One night they stayed up all night to see the sunrise in a room sanctioned for them by NCL teen counselors for that purpose. 1am seems really silly to me. If it were 2am, I think that would be more reasonable given programming ends at 1am-there should be some time to grab food, a few sodas and shoot the breeze beyond scheduled programming. You never stayed up all night as a teen? How soon we forget... Edited September 20, 2015 by conandrob240
Iron-Maiden's-No1-Fan Posted September 20, 2015 #19 Share Posted September 20, 2015 (edited) Actually no as a teen I didn't stay up all night. I had a curfew which I respected. And if a 1am seems silly why book with royal?..NCL are very different and offer different things. Seems your going to try and break the curfew rule regardless as you don't like posters replies We've all paid lots of money, my teenagers included but rules are rules.. It's a rule set out for a reason and many people, parents or not like it. Your son may get lucky but then again he may get caught. 1st time he's escorted back. 2nd time you'll be spoken to. 3rd time ..not sure as I wouldn't want to get to 3rd ☺ Edited September 20, 2015 by Iron-Maiden's-No1-Fan

Or possibly RCI just may not be the cruiseline for your family....nothing wrong with that freedom of choice knowing what the policy is before you cruise..and the probability that policy may be enforced. Enjoy what ever cruiseline you decide would be best for your family.
GUT2407 Posted September 20, 2015 #21 Share Posted September 20, 2015 Can someone explain how the crew know how old someone is. Well into her 30s DW would pass as under 18 easily, if they started hassling her the fur would have flown. She now looks closer to her age so not a problem but I see real issues arising. gerif Posted September 20, 2015 #25 Share Posted September 20, 2015 There are holes punched in the cards. I believe it is two if under 18 and one if under 21, so very easy for security to check. If someone who looks young has a hissy fit at being carded, she has a lot more issues than can be dealt with here.
