Hello everyone. . . We left the pier around 4PM under partly sunny skies. The sun kept trying to come out and did for a bit but overall it was nice weather for sail away with not rain.

We will travel 992 NM until we reach our first port of call in St. Thomas, USVI. The Captain suggested that Getaway will experience good weather for most of the next two days at sea. It was suggested that the seas would be nominal, but it might be a little windy at times.

I went to see Illusionarium tonight, and it was a show that should not be missed. I was seated in the front row, and I was unable to figure out some of the amazing illusions that I saw. . . Everyone loved the food, but maybe I was the only one that didn’t care for it. (Steak and Shrimp) The show was very entertaining, and I was very happy that I was able to see such a performance. It was spectacular.

Getaway Casino was very “Radio Friendly” and I may be visiting a few times this week. . . .Or maybe several times per day !

A super large Hot Fudge sundae from O'Sheehans was consumed tonight, and now I am ready for the rack. . . Thanks for the nice comments.

We watched you sail away on the Port Miami Webcam this afternoon. The Getaway looked beautiful as she sailed out of Miami.

Thank you very much for reporting on your experience with the Auto Train. We have thought about using it before, but never have done so. Maybe some day we will try it. We also appreciated your info about the Hyatt as a pre cruise hotel since Miami is a bit farther than we want to drive on cruise morning.

I am looking forward to the rest of your live report, and I am sure I will be making a lot more additions to my cruise tips file as I progress through your review. Thank you for taking time out of your cruise to share it with all of us. :D

Radio, As always enjoy following your sailings. Linda and I just returned from Royal Princess. Great cruise but some design flaws, balconies, elevators, and such. My short review is on CC.

We gave up NCL sometime back due to freestyle dining and constant onboard charges and cabin sizes. I will be curious to hear your opinions on that issue and NCL for this voyage.

Have a great cruise, as always your reporting and photography are unbeatable.

Hello everyone . . . I woke up very early this morning and it was very dark and very quiet. I was however able to grab a coffee and pastry down at O’Sheehans on Deck 7. The cleaners were in full force. It seemed that most of the public areas had several crew cleaning and getting ready for a day at sea today.

There are so many things to do, and I’m not sure what is in store for me. . . I do know that among the list of things to do will include:

• Cruise Critic Meeting in Cagneys this morning . . .

• Meeting Captain Stensrud and Cruise Director JC Sanchez at noon in the Atrium

• Try out the Slides and Rope course

• Dinner at Cagney’s tonight

• Go to the “Secrets to a flatter stomach” seminar

• Maybe watch the news

The sun is coming up today slowly, and I am sure that the decks will be alive today. My Internet connection is touch and go, and I am happy that I was able to purchase the internet connection for the week. Sometimes it only takes a few seconds to upload pics to my server. . . other times it takes forever. At least I can use multiple devices, but need to be sure to log off of my current device when switching to another.

Some fun facts about the Haven include that there is no longer DVD checkouts at the Concierge Desk. Haven guests however, can watch Movies their cabin for no charge. There are about 100 full length feature films that can be viewed. That is very nice.

I am enjoying your live report, it's helping my just got off the ship blues. I think from your last photo we must have been in the cabin to your right last week. We wondered why the room had a DVD player! And we did enjoy watching several recently released movies for free. The save feature is great for when we wanted to go out but wanted to be able to pick up a movies where we left off. Enjoy your cruise!

Hello everyone. . . Today has really been a lazy day for me. I am guessing that the travel day Friday really wiped me out as I really did not have any energy to do much. I was able to go to the Cruise Critic Meeting, and I was able to meet the Captain and Cruise Director. I neglected to do the ropes and slides. The pool decks today were very crowded, and it was very hot out. It was really the perfect day to get cooled off, but the crowds made my decision to just make today a relaxing day.

Getaway Casino has still been very nice, and I must speak softly about this as I am waiting for Lady Luck to get even. I really like that you can use the Casino just by using your Freestyle Card (Room Card). You can use up to $2000 per day. (ouch) The Getaway Casino have many servers who always seem to be ready to take your order when you need it. They are very friendly as are all of the servers I have met so far. Service seems to be an important part of the Guest experience here on Getaway.

Today the weather has been sunny and warm. Norwegian Getaway has sailed all day with blue skies and very calm seas. . . Yes we’re in the Atlantic Ocean, but it seems like we are sailing in a pond. Who knows what the weather could be like during the week? When your cruise starts out like this though, it really sets the tone for the week.

The food so far has been very good, and I expect that to continue as I will be dining in Cagney’s tonight. I have a reservation for Burn the Floor afterwards in Getaway Theater. It has been suggested that this show is on the “Do not miss” list as it offers music and dance entertainment for all ages.

Really enjoying your review--looking forward to more installments.

My wife and I will be on the Getaway on 10/31 for the 12-nite Southern Caribbean. We're in a Haven Spa Suite. Our first time in the Haven.

I see you're from White Marsh/Perry Hall area. I was raised in Parkville and raised my family in Bel Air before retiring to Panama City Beach, FL almost 3 years ago.

Hello everyone. . . Good morning and Welcome to DAY 3 of “LIVE” from Norwegian Getaway. I woke up this morning a little later than usual (6AM), but it was nice to view a beautiful sunrise. Yes the seas are calm again, but there is a little cloud cover to the east.

I may have consumed the best steak (in my recent memory) last night at Cagney’s. I may have to say that it was perfect. Cagney’s was very busy last night and I think the word is out that this is the place to go. We were seated about 90 min and were entertained by the Tropicana Room dancing (one deck below). A “live” band played for the Tropicana Room diners.

I was able to see some of “Burn the Floor”, but I had to retire to the comfort of my cabin. When my head hit the pillow, I was out like a light. No photography was allowed, and the Camera and Smartphone secret police were in full force. The music was very good, and the dancers were full of energy!

There are dozens of activities scheduled for today including pool games, dance classes, Carlo’s Cake class, and I will find time to go to the Getaway Technical presentation later this morning. I will also do the Ropes course and slides. The Deal or No Deal show will also be held today, and I will try to view that around noon.

We are about 340nm from our 1st port of call (St Thomas, USVI) I have a car rental secured and plan to do what I often do . . . Explore St. Thomas and her beauty. I was thinking of getting a Ferry to St. John, but that may be another time.

Great review. We aren't sailing on Norwegian next, but I am always looking out for future cruises. It looks like a lovely ship. My DS would LOVE those waterslides...even if busy. Too bad you found it too crowded, but it still sounds like you had a nice day.

HI all!

Radio ~ enjoying your live from & beautiful pictures, as usual.:D

I was impressed with my meal at Cagney's while on Getaway. I had the beef tenderloin & it was so tender you could cut it with a fork!

Loved my lunch at Shanghai too & prime rib at O'Sheehan's. Matter of fact I thought the food on Getaway was the best yet! Make sure you try the empanadas etc at the Flamingo grill if you like Cuban food.

Isn't the decor & vibe of Getaway beautiful? It's a lovely ship.

Have a great cruise!

Hello everyone . . . My day today on Getaway was much like it has been . . . very calm and relaxing. I ate breakfast this morning up on Flamingo Grill (Deck 16) It is a breakfast served buffet style but is a lot less hectic than in Garden Café (Deck 15) They offer some Miami/Cuban themed foods for B/L/D. It is a nice place to go for a fast breakfast that tastes very good.

After breakfast we headed down to see the Getaway Technical Presentation. It was hosted by JC Sanchez (CD) The Captain and Chief Engineer offered a Q&A session for passengers. This is an event that most Cruise Lines seem to have on the last day, but I think it makes sense to have it earlier so more passengers may have the time to attend. I was unable to attend the Ladies Pamper Party (La Cucina Deck8) Maybe it will happen later this week.

This afternoon there was some shopping up in Tradewinds (Deck 8).There are many shops that offer most things that cruisers like to buy. We need to buy a new tote bag because we forgot to bring one of the 14 tote bags that we have with us. All of the photos that were taken are also there, as well as some nice etched glass cubes and bobblehead figurines.

We ate dinner in the Haven Restaurant, and I was surprised to see that we were the only ones in there. They suggested that the Haven restaurant doesn’t often get crowded at dinner until later in the evening. They also mentioned that with all Haven guests having UDP, that it gets far less passengers than in 2014.

I was invited to the Latitudes Rewards event at Spice H20 (Deck 16 AFT). The Captain welcomes back Gold, Silver, and Platinum Latitudes members back. The top staff managers were also introduced. There was LIVE music with drinks, bubbly, and snacks served.

Tomorrow is St. Thomas day and we are scheduled to arrive at 8AM. The Captain announced today that we will stay an additional hour (7PM). Most passengers seemed to approve and were very happy. We are expecting some rain tomorrow, but I hope it is kept to a minimum.
