Cuizer2 Posted January 20, 2016 #2 Share Posted January 20, 2016 Well, I've spent US dollars in Canada. I would assume that you can spend Canadian money in the US border towns. However, I do not know if you can spend Canadian money it the US towns that lie on the Pacific Coast.

Langley Cruisers Posted January 20, 2016 #4 Share Posted January 20, 2016 I will be embarking from Vancouver to go to Alaska. Is this american $ ? Sorry, what exactly are you asking? Once you leave Vancouver and port in Alaskan cities, the currency is USD. The currency in Vancouver is CDN but as a courtesy you may use USD here. crystalspin Posted January 20, 2016 #5 Share Posted January 20, 2016 I will be embarking from Vancouver to go to Alaska. Is this american $ ? The ship's currency will be US$ -- for onboard purchases, your credit card carrier will doubtless make the conversion for you at their rate... The vendors in the Alaska towns want US$. If your ship calls at Victoria, that's Canada, but possible they'll be happy to take any leftover US$ you have left at some exchange rate or other. Have you gotten an answer to your question? Krazy Kruizers Posted January 20, 2016 #6 Share Posted January 20, 2016 Welcome to Cruise Critic. I see that you are from Canada. Canadian dollars while you are getting to the port. If you also make a stop in Victoria, Canadian dollars of course. But once you start to hit the American (US) ports, American money is needed as the vendors and restaurants can't handle Canadian money for the most part. If you use a credit card, no problems. Your shipboard account will be in US dollars.
paul929207 Posted January 20, 2016 #7 Share Posted January 20, 2016 Everything on the ship will be priced in US$. In port, retailers will prefer their local currency. In the US, some may take Canadian$ and in Canada, some may take US$. Those taking currency from the other country are likely to give you a poor exchange rate.
