Rare fb0075 Posted January 24, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 24, 2016 Hey WE have jumped on the 2-29 Journey and it is our first on AZ, even tho we are elite plus with Celebrity--- We have been on over 100 cruises and like to just relax on the balcony and stateroom-- We are in Club Veranda and would like a DVD player attached to TV--I understand that this is for suites only but since no suites were avaliable, is it possible to arrange this? Or hookup laptop to TV with cables? Just off several Oceania cruises and look forward to comparing even tho no Texas Holdem!! :) THANKS FRANK
BBMacLaird Posted January 25, 2016 #2 Share Posted January 25, 2016 Hi Frank, Let me ask our technologically-savvy people...I'm more on the 't-challenged' end of the spectrum. It may take a day or two to get a reply because all hands are busy getting the Journey ready for her debut!

So DVD players onboard may be phased out. Right now it's too early for me to report. Please remind me in a couple weeks and I'll ask again when life is back to normal for the staff and crew. Hi Bonnie WE were really excited to compare AZ against Celebrity and Oceania but now not so much--as I said we are different than your average cruisers and sfter 119 cruises we just enjoy relaxing with coffee on veranda and watching movies ,etc. Host Andy has responded that unlike MOST other lines that have designated movie channels for free--Cel 2 Oceania 4---that the movies are $11.99-- With so many things included in the price, I find it strange and rather offensive that they would charge for the movies! This is almost a deal breaker if we werent past final payment. FRANK
Grandma Cruising Posted February 2, 2016 #8 Share Posted February 2, 2016 Previously Azamara had a couple of free movies a day, but you couldn't choose when to watch them. I wonder if they have dropped that option. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk They seemed to have--according to Host Andy --- That seems so strange!!! To advertise so many included features and then want to charge for such a low revenue product that most ALL lines include. Most folks dont watch TV much less watch movies--- Oh WELL We really wanted to like AZ but maybe just not for us.:(
Grandma Cruising Posted February 2, 2016 #10 Share Posted February 2, 2016 Why don't you wait and see if you like it, rather than pre-judging? We were very wary on our first Azamara cruise, but were totally sold on the product within two or three days! wuppis Posted February 2, 2016 #11 Share Posted February 2, 2016 We have done 38 cruises on 10 different cruiselines. We never saw a film in the cabin. We were about three times in a ships Cinema and watched a movie. We even do not watch the news. We´re on vacation and want to have the time of our life with doing the total opposite to our normal life. We love the shows on Azamara, love sitting outside having a nice drink, our listening to some musicans in a lounge. We do not need a movie played for money or for free in the cabin. I can have that at home every evening, but not the special feeling a ship gives us every day and night.

On sea days I am by the pool or on our balcony. I love sea days. DH prefers to book cruises with no sea days and hates laying by the pool and is not a gambler so no casino. He is very nice to me and will book cruises with sea days. You will find him wandering the ship but mostly watching movies that he brought from home. If he can connect to the TV he will do that. If not, he will watch on his computer. Everyone enjoys their free time differently. If he can watch movies during his relax time then I don't feel as guilty as I enjoy my relax time. I've never understood why someone would answer anyone else's concern with "I don't care about that (whatever it is) so you shouldn't either". As an extreme example of what I mean: if I want to pay for a cruise just to sit on a balcony, look at the sea and the ports, eat all meals in the cabin and never walk out my cabin door until the end of the cruise, the fact that you like to go into each port and tour from the minute you can get off until the last possible minute to reboard is irrelevant. We all cruise for our own reasons and each person's concern about what is important to them. I would never tell you that what you like to do is wrong in any way. I've had skin cancer issues but would never tell someone who was upset because there were too few pool loungers that their concern was meaningless because I don't go to the pool. But in essence, that's what you've implied. Edited February 2, 2016 by bob278
excitedofharpenden Posted February 2, 2016 #15 Share Posted February 2, 2016 The question was to Bonnie and it was about OUR likes --not yours-- Yes, it's a valid question and I don't understand the point of that response either. Hopefully they'll have a spare DVD player onboard for you and can hook it up with the new kit. I remember being on a cruise and one of our group happened to ask Heike who was Hotel Director if ordinary veranda cabins should have a DVD player. She said no, but sure enough that evening there was one in her cabin. Phil
Rare Host Jazzbeau Posted February 3, 2016 #16 Share Posted February 3, 2016 "... is it possible to ... hookup laptop to TV with cables?" I recall that one of Andy's pictures was of a "train" of new TV sets ready for installation in the cabins. I'm assuming that any current TV has HDMI inputs -- so if your computer has an HDMI output all you need is to pack the cable and be prepared to manhandle the TV to get at the back. [i usually do that anyway to get access to an extra AC connection behind it.]

[i usually do that anyway to get access to an extra AC connection behind it.] The way the tv was wall mounted in the mock up room in Quest (verandah) you would NOT be able to access outputs. Phi is suggestion is I think the more likely, though I have no idea how it will connect. And I too agree though it's not what I do onboard, it's a perfectly valid question. Everyone (yes everyone!) is different whether they've had 1 cruise or 1001 cruises

BBMacLaird Posted February 3, 2016 #19 Share Posted February 3, 2016 Our ships still have both free movies as well as Pay-Per-View movies, no change there. Unfortunately DVD players are not available to plug into TVs.

excitedofharpenden Posted February 3, 2016 #21 Share Posted February 3, 2016 There were no free movies on the last couple of cruises I've done on Journey. There used to be a limited selection of science documentaries (Building Big series I think) together with a few dramas, but those seemed to disappear during last year. Grandma Cruising Posted February 4, 2016 #22 Share Posted February 4, 2016 In December on Quest there were movies that played on one of the channels during the day, can't remember which one. They were free, but you couldn't choose when to watch, though. The times they were on were set out in the daily programme. I never spotted one I'd like to watch. Phil My wife, a far greater authority on this than I, recalls that in October there were three movies in rotation each day and, as you helpfully point out, the schedule is in Pursuits. A new movie would be added to the mix, perhaps every day, though she is not certain about that. It's quite possible that you didn't find a movie you like because, in her view, the movies were about two years removed from general release. Thus they were rather older than those presented on airplanes.
