Sat1 Posted March 3, 2016 #126 Share Posted March 3, 2016 I must use a walker, and on my first cruise, kept the card in my pocket. Very inconvenient to get to open the cabin door, etc. From then on, have used a lanyard, open the door, drop the card. Now, when walking, I drop the card inside my shirt. JimAOk1945 Posted March 4, 2016 #127 Share Posted March 4, 2016 When we were newbies, we made the mistake of wearing our lanyards when we went ashore on our first cruise. At first we thought the vendors were just being friendly because they kept inviting us into the shops. We mentioned this to waiter at dinner that first evening. He very nicely explained that our lanyards were making us targets. We never wore them again! :D
ger_77 Posted March 4, 2016 #128 Share Posted March 4, 2016 I don't use a lanyard because for too many years, I had to carry my ID around my neck; I use a badge reel instead. It clips to my waistband and is easily covered by a t-shirt, or I can slip it into my pocket when we go ashore. It is handy to pull out for scanning when leaving or returning to the ship, and I can unclip my card when I have to give it to a server for drinks. Smooth Sailing! :) :) :)
Starflyr3 Posted March 4, 2016 #129 Share Posted March 4, 2016 I wear a lanyard because the majority of clothing designers seem to think that women dont have any need for pockets.
tbmrt Posted March 5, 2016 #130 Share Posted March 5, 2016 (edited) I get up really early and get coffee in Tervis cups to bring back for me to drink on balcony and have a cup ready for DH when he gets up. Also in afternoons we sometimes stop at buffet to pick up a snack and drinks to enjoy on balcony. Would be difficult to carry back shipcard if one doesn't have pockets. When at dinner or dressed up, I carry card in my dress purse. Edited March 5, 2016 by tbmrt change
bikevegas Posted March 5, 2016 #131 Share Posted March 5, 2016 My wife is a teacher and got us some lanyards that have a zipper on the back. Can put cash or credit card on the backside. Very convenient when your in port! Love the lanyard !
iancal Posted March 7, 2016 #132 Share Posted March 7, 2016 Never. Don't like anything around my neck...most especially neck ties or bow ties.
Cruisin'Christine Posted March 7, 2016 #133 Share Posted March 7, 2016 I've never used a lanyard or wrist bracelet for my ship card. I use my pocket or my husband's pocket, if I happen to be wearing something without a pocket. I don't want a lanyard to make my outfit look touristy, particularly in photos. teacup317 Posted March 8, 2016 #134 Share Posted March 8, 2016 We will use lanyards. It is easy, convenient and my DH won't loose it that way! We do put them inside our backpacks when we are on excursions but I think the backpack is a sure giveaway that we are tourists....don't you?? What ever works for everyone doesn't necessarily work for everyone! Have fun cruising.
Slugsta Posted March 8, 2016 #135 Share Posted March 8, 2016 I have to carry a small bag/purse with me on board anyway (medications, tissues, pen etc) so my card goes in there too. Hubs tends to put his in a top pocket when he can, or trouser pocket otherwise, he's not lost one so far.
simplelife Posted March 8, 2016 #136 Share Posted March 8, 2016 I have tons of ID pouches from conferences. That have a slot for the S & S card and room in the little zipper pocket for tip money, lip balm, etc
Rare MicCanberra Posted March 9, 2016 #137 Share Posted March 9, 2016 I wear a lanyard (with sea pass card) on the ship during the day but otherwise it is in my pocket.:D
Susieq0102 Posted April 28, 2016 #138 Share Posted April 28, 2016 Lol, some things are more confusing after  researching than before. :) It does seem to come down to personal choice. I do have a question, though. My DH and I will be on the Star Princess this September. Are there people who wear lanyards? If so, are there lots or few who do? :D I really don't care what people think, just curious.
paul929207 Posted April 28, 2016 #139 Share Posted April 28, 2016 On our Princess cruises, including 3 on the Star, we have worn lanyards and saw lots of others using them. It is an individual choice.

Better to have one and not need it, than to want one and and not have it.
Rare cruisemom42 Posted April 28, 2016 #141 Share Posted April 28, 2016 Whether on a lanyard, badge reel, bracelet coil, pocket or bag, we all must carry a cruise card. What difference does it really make how each person decides to do it?

Quilcruisers Posted May 1, 2016 #148 Share Posted May 1, 2016 We use the stretchy bracelet things, most times now the cruise ship has a hole already punched into the card. We keep our card on our wrist or on our ankle, very handy for the week so we wont misplace it. We use the same wrist thingy every year..
TucsonRick Posted May 1, 2016 #149 Share Posted May 1, 2016 (edited) No, I never wear one. I think it looks stupid and is like a kid with his name sown in his underwear. It seemed that 90% of people on my last cruise used them. I just loved the ladies wearing them with a formal gown! BTW, does one have to bend down to open his cabin door? jennybenny Posted May 1, 2016 #150 Share Posted May 1, 2016 I do, the men in my family do not. They have pockets and I rarely do. I do have to take it off for photos. It's a minor pain, but I want to be able to get back into my room without being attached at the hip to my husband :) Careful with the lanyards that have magnets as they will demagnetize the card
