Rare vickykay Posted February 26, 2016 #1 Share Posted February 26, 2016 Hi. We are planning on staying in Sydney pre cruise next Feb and post cruise in Auckland? How many days would be suggested for Auckland to see most of the major sights. ThaNks. Vicky
Kiwi Kruzer Posted February 26, 2016 #2 Share Posted February 26, 2016 Its really over to you , your budget , and to how much time you have to spare. You can do the highlights in a day if you wish. You could also spend a week just touring around Auckland.....or if you want to head further afield, the Waitomo Caves or Hobbiton are a full day tour , and for a tour to the Bay of Islands you would need 2/3 days. GUT2407 Posted February 26, 2016 #3 Share Posted February 26, 2016 As devoid said comes down to time and $. I'd have said at least three if you can.
GradUT Posted February 27, 2016 #4 Share Posted February 27, 2016 It depends on your interests. We were hard-pressed to find enough that interested us in Auckland itself for more than a day. However, if you have time to get outside of the city and tour around the North Island, you could easily spend a week or more.

TMLAalum Posted February 27, 2016 #6 Share Posted February 27, 2016 We had 10 nights in NZ pre-cruise with the laat 2 in Auckland. We explored the Coromandel, Rotorua & Waitomo. For me, exploring the countryside and natural wonders of NZ was the best. Must admit we didn't visit museums, etc. in Auckland, but instead took a daytrip to Waiheke Is. for the wineries. With 4 nights in Auckland, you can book tours to the areas I mentioned if you prefer not to drive. If renting a car doesn't faze you, then do plan on an overnight or two away from the city. Rare boards Posted March 27, 2016 #7 Share Posted March 27, 2016 We are considering a cruise starting in Auckland, but would like to start in Sydney, Aus., for a few days and then fly to Auckland. Would a morning flight from Sydney to Auckland be doable? Would like to arrive a day early in Auckland too.

Because of the time difference between Sydney and Auckland most of the Sydney morning departures arrive in Auckland in the afternoon. If there are any delays in clearing customs, or traffic issues getting into the city, you run the risk of missing your cruise. Fly in the day before, or two days before if you want time to sightsee in Auckland.
