What would you do with the extra $1200

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Would like everyone's honest "first" opinion. DH and I are booked on the Oasis for our 10th anniversary. Got a great casino rate for an outside cabin (no balc) It's all paid up!

Today I found out for $1200 more, they could upgrade us to a JS. I hear everyone talk about the Suite life and I know that's a good deal, but I just feel that's still a lot of money, I could use it on excursions, spa treatments or casino..or drinks or special dining...

But it's our 10 year anniversary and it's a suite. I also researched posts and many folks do not consider a JS a real suite on the oasis. :)

So...what would you do, hang tight or shell out an additional $1200 for a JS for a week on the oasis?

Thank you.

We are always looking to upgrade

To go from a outside to a JS might be tempting for 1200 total depending on what the os price was and the JS price is now. You would be bypassing all the d1-d8 cats and all the bb's, cpb's

I could play A LOT of blackjack with that "extra" money! Or, save it for another cruise. While a JS is a lovely way to cruise, it's not the "suite life" you're thinking it is! It's simply a larger cabin with a bathtub, instead of a shower.

I wouldn't pay that much to go from a standard balcony room to a JS, but from an OV, I probably would, especially if I were celebrating a special occasion like 10th anniversary. I really like having a balcony.

I gave it some more thought

Why don't we quantify the difference. These are guesses of course.

Normal cost to upgrade from an OV to an "ocean" balcony on Oasis - $500 This assumes you don't have a balcony discount like many of our fellow respondents do. ;)

100 sqft of extra cabin space - $200 (It really is a lot bigger, even the balcony)

Pillow top mattress - $100 (Lots of complaints on mattresses lately )

Double C&A points - $150 (this would help you score that balcony discount in the future)

Coastal Kitchen dinners, I think it is good as any specialty restaurant - $300 Figured on 4 visits during the week, I would go more ;)

So, maybe it is worth it. Plus, it's your anniversary.

BTW, I didn't give value for the priority boarding, bigger bathroom with tub, walk in closet, robes, etc..

Those are for the most part incidental

On the mattresses, ours was quite comfortable on Oasis 3 weeks ago. None of the super hard stuff I've been reading about on other ships. So that certainly wouldn't influence my choice.

I peeked into an unoccupied JS this last cruise. Personally, the upgrade would have to be under $100 to make it worthwhile. The room was a little bigger than our balcony room, but not enough to care, especially since we don't spend a lot of time in the room to begin with.

I could find much better things to do with $1200 than upgrade to a JS.

Take that $1200 and book an extra cruise. I don't think a JS adds enough to the cruise experience to be worth it. Not unless $1200 is a minor outlay.

I would put it toward the purchase of your NEXT cruise! That's a lot of money for just an upgrade! As most people will tell you, you aren't in your cabin that much because there is so much to do and see on an Oasis class ship! Happy 10th anniversary and may you have man,y many more happy years together! Happy cruising!

I wonder what the answer would be if they asked is $2700 for an Oasis JS in the summer is a good deal? Might even be an oversized hump balcony. :D

Still way over my per person limit for a 7-day Caribbean JS.
