Panda3 Posted May 6, 2016 #1 Share Posted May 6, 2016 Hello, Would like everyone's honest "first" opinion. DH and I are booked on the Oasis for our 10th anniversary. Got a great casino rate for an outside cabin (no balc) It's all paid up! Today I found out for $1200 more, they could upgrade us to a JS. I hear everyone talk about the Suite life and I know that's a good deal, but I just feel that's still a lot of money, I could use it on excursions, spa treatments or casino..or drinks or special dining... But it's our 10 year anniversary and it's a suite. I also researched posts and many folks do not consider a JS a real suite on the oasis. :) So...what would you do, hang tight or shell out an additional $1200 for a JS for a week on the oasis? Thank you.
Clarea Posted May 6, 2016 #2 Share Posted May 6, 2016 It would not be worth $1200 for us to upgrade to a JS.
cruiseguy1016 Posted May 6, 2016 #3 Share Posted May 6, 2016 A JS is a Junior Suite. It does not have all of the privileges and amenities associated with a full suite. I would spend my $1200 elsewhere.
molly361 Posted May 6, 2016 #4 Share Posted May 6, 2016 I would keep the OV and the $1200
Rare John&LaLa Posted May 6, 2016 #5 Share Posted May 6, 2016 JS on Oasis is nicer than most ships because of Coastal Kitchen dinners, but $1200 is to much.
setsail Posted May 6, 2016 #6 Share Posted May 6, 2016 (edited) We are always looking to upgrade To go from a outside to a JS might be tempting for 1200 total depending on what the os price was and the JS price is now. You would be bypassing all the d1-d8 cats and all the bb's, cpb's Edited May 6, 2016 by setsail
mkbruce Posted May 6, 2016 #7 Share Posted May 6, 2016 Definitely not - that's a high premium for a little more space, access to Coastal Kitchen, and a few other very minor perks.
cb at sea Posted May 6, 2016 #8 Share Posted May 6, 2016 I could play A LOT of blackjack with that "extra" money! Or, save it for another cruise. While a JS is a lovely way to cruise, it's not the "suite life" you're thinking it is! It's simply a larger cabin with a bathtub, instead of a shower. Paul65 Posted May 6, 2016 #9 Share Posted May 6, 2016 I wouldn't pay that much to go from a standard balcony room to a JS, but from an OV, I probably would, especially if I were celebrating a special occasion like 10th anniversary. I really like having a balcony.
alex800 Posted May 6, 2016 #10 Share Posted May 6, 2016 I would spend the money somewhere else. To me it's way too much for the upgrade.
DonnaK Posted May 6, 2016 #11 Share Posted May 6, 2016 No way would I spend that much money to upgrade. What else would I spend it on? Another cruise.

Thank you. I gave it some more thought Why don't we quantify the difference. These are guesses of course. Normal cost to upgrade from an OV to an "ocean" balcony on Oasis - $500 This assumes you don't have a balcony discount like many of our fellow respondents do. ;) 100 sqft of extra cabin space - $200 (It really is a lot bigger, even the balcony) Pillow top mattress - $100 (Lots of complaints on mattresses lately ) Double C&A points - $150 (this would help you score that balcony discount in the future) Coastal Kitchen dinners, I think it is good as any specialty restaurant - $300 Figured on 4 visits during the week, I would go more ;) So, maybe it is worth it. Plus, it's your anniversary. BTW, I didn't give value for the priority boarding, bigger bathroom with tub, walk in closet, robes, etc.. Those are for the most part incidental Edited May 6, 2016 by John&LaLa
Eslader Posted May 6, 2016 #13 Share Posted May 6, 2016 On the mattresses, ours was quite comfortable on Oasis 3 weeks ago. None of the super hard stuff I've been reading about on other ships. So that certainly wouldn't influence my choice. I peeked into an unoccupied JS this last cruise. Personally, the upgrade would have to be under $100 to make it worthwhile. The room was a little bigger than our balcony room, but not enough to care, especially since we don't spend a lot of time in the room to begin with. I could find much better things to do with $1200 than upgrade to a JS.
spookwife Posted May 6, 2016 #14 Share Posted May 6, 2016 Hello, Would like everyone's honest "first" opinion. sorry but in MNSHO $1200 is not a good enough deal to jump from an OV to a JS. not even factoring in the new suite program.
jagsfan Posted May 6, 2016 #15 Share Posted May 6, 2016 Take that $1200 and book an extra cruise. I don't think a JS adds enough to the cruise experience to be worth it. Not unless $1200 is a minor outlay. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app
tgloersen Posted May 6, 2016 #16 Share Posted May 6, 2016 Keep the $1200, we find that the OV Balcony suffice's just fine.
Panda3 Posted May 6, 2016 Author #17 Share Posted May 6, 2016 Thank you everyone! Basically you validated what I was thinking. $1200 is still a lot of money to us.... Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app
jennmaybe Posted May 6, 2016 #18 Share Posted May 6, 2016 Yikes! No way we would pay that much to upgrade to a "so-called" suite. That would definitely be a deposit, plus some on another cruise for us!

As most people will tell you, you aren't in your cabin that much because there is so much to do and see on an Oasis class ship! mek Posted May 6, 2016 #22 Share Posted May 6, 2016 No I wouldn't, but suites don't hold much interest to me. It would have to be a very small amount to get me to upgrade.
Rare John&LaLa Posted May 6, 2016 #23 Share Posted May 6, 2016 I wonder what the answer would be if they asked is $2700 for an Oasis JS in the summer is a good deal? Might even be an oversized hump balcony. :D
