Name tags on mailboxes

Personally, I like 'em and consider them a fun part of cruising. We take our most recent card and put it on our master bedroom door at home. I know, I know... It's a little corny, but we enjoy it ;) It helps us look forward to being onboard again!

I don't think it's corny at all:)

Well of course they will..............I mean after all if you have a higher cabin number than I do, I might feel offended:D

I wonder why they bother with them anyway, people mustn't be able to read them, by what I read in some threads here.

Does not take much to get to platinum or Elite these days. I am Elite and can assure you I worked my butt off to be able to afford those cruises. I do not have valuables, besides family of course. You would probably return my grandson Mack after a few hours...........:D

You don't need to have any money or jewels in your room to be vulnerable. Your identity is what many thieves go for today.

You can assure me all you want that you struggled to take all these cruises but do you hang a sign on your door to inform would be thieves your not worth their time? :D

That's the first time I've even heard that someone's wealth is connected to their cruise status & what valuables might possible be in their cabins.

People worry about the silliest things sometimes. LOL :D:D

I thought it was surprising too Until I've actually heard people talking about it. Not actually stealing anything. But judging the wealth of the people in that room. Here's what I say. Give it up go enjoy a drink and go sit by the pool. LOL

I'll ask again since I am still curious and didn't get any replies:

My question for those that are blowing this off, what is your logical rationale for feeling that you can let your guard down and do things on a cruise ship that you wouldn't do in a land-based hotel or city? I'm not being snarky, I'm honestly interested in the answers.

Maybe my normal isn't your normal! I don't feel like displaying a name tag is letting my guard down or inviting someone to ransack my room (of course I didn't realize I was a more inviting target since I'm elite :D). On the other hand, I agree with just about everyone else that it is foolish to put your room number on an easily misplaced key card. That is inviting trouble.

While I've stayed in lots of hotels around the world and never had a name tag - I even stayed in one that wouldn't allow guests above the lobby without hotel personnel escorting them to our room - I've never stayed in a hotel with hundreds of rooms on a single floor and with two mirror imaged corridors where, even without the influence of alcohol, it is easy to get disoriented. I have appreciated the name tags when traveling with others who have rooms on other decks, or different sections of 'our' deck. I always take the time to make sure I'm at the correct room by verifying the name tag before knocking on the door. When distributing meet and greet invitations or similar correspondence I also verify that I'm dropping it in the correct mailbox.

I really don't see any problem with the current system. Let the passenger decide whether to display the tag or not.

In post 87 above I gave you some of my thoughts before you had asked your question, I didn't think I should repost it.

I said ,I am not wealthy.

BTW: I assure you I am worth their time :)

I suppose we can now assume that any luggage left outside an "Elite door" at the end of the cruise is filled with lots of valuables for easy picking.

Yep,because we know those rich Elite people!

:DWow! Boy did this conversation go sideways!

It was reported that name tags on the mail boxes will no longer be happening. Some like that, some do not. Many reasons given for both pro and con. I'm on the con side especially since the cabin # will be taken off the room card also reported.

Now in regular hotels, I carry either the room # on a blank sheet of paper or carry something from the hotel that has the # on it. Reason being there is no way I'm going to remember the room #. I barely remember my street address :D

So if they stop putting name tags on the mailboxes and stop putting the cabin # on the room cards...you better work on your memory skills.

When you see that little old lady roaming the halls...its probably me.

Do I use my actual name here?

When I am onboard the ship, I decide whom I want to meet and exchange names with. Advertising Platinum or Elite in the mailbox, might make the impression that there is something of value in our cabin. .

So you think because you are Elite you have more valuable items in your cabin?

An interesting viewpoint.

You do understand that Warren Buffet gets a blue card on his first cruise, don't you?

Question, if someone sails solo in a suite for the first time, does he/she get double double points? If you sail solo, I heard you get double points, and if you book a suite you get double points, so what would your status be with that criteria?

Luggage Tags will no longer have Elite on them

Boarding Passes will not have the Green Heading.

Just a thought:rolleyes:

I know, right? This seems to be just another thread where people think the rest of us are just dying to know their opinion on a thing and that it's worth fighting to the death to get the other side to say "uncle." Personal attacks are going to be met with justifiable defense. It's really simple: some people like the tags, some don't. Is this really more important than butter? ;)
