Take on-board credit as cash in casino?

I know we can do this for a small fee on Royal Caribbean. Can we also do this on Celebrity?

Only if it is listed as a refundable obc...most are not unless it is a 'gift' from a TA.. If you purchase the money yourself through Gifts by Celebrity you can withdraw it or it will be refunded.

A 5% charge is added

If it is "refundable" it will be returned to your credit card. You need to do nothing, it is automatic. Check your on board account to see what is "refundable" They deduct "non refundable" first when you have a charge.

The OBC from your TA is most likely refundable (OBC-R). If you do not spend it any remaining balance will be credited back to your credit card. The $50 from Celebrity is not refundable and will be lost if not used.

in the past, if it's refundable I have gone to guest service the last night and requested it and avoided the 5% charge.

Our unused refundable OBC always goes back on our Credit Card with no fee. If we have $400 remaining in about 2 days our credit card has a $400 refund from X.

You can no longer take out non-refundable OBC in the casino. If you wish to use OBC to play you will be given promotional chips. Any winning are paid in cash.

Are the casinos allowing equal bets on red and black or odd and even? I know you will lose one bet, but win the other to get real chips. Also place a small bet on 0 or 00 just in case.

Some cruise lines (e.g. Crystal) whom give promotional chips against OBC make a point of expressly forbidding betting both sides of an even bet - on both Roulette and on Craps.

Celebrity's FAQ's still say you can use the OBC in the casino, but I have never charged a room advance before and only be given promotional chips so will be curious on Summit next week to see how this works in practice. If you had $80 OBC left and took a $200 marker, would they actually check your folio to see how much OBC was left and then split up your chips into promotional and non promotional? All seems a bit strange so will be curious to see!

Our last 2 cruises on Celebrity we had $600 non-refundable credit. There was a sign in the casino saying something about non-refundable credit. We were able to spend it all. Our next cruise we had the same $600. I just had my TA rebook our next cruise. We lost $300 non-refundable, but dropped the price for the cruise by $900.

With the current promotion where you pick one..........we picked the classic drink package, but my BIL, sailing solo, chose the $300 OBC as he does not drink.

I assume that his OBC is non-refundable. Can he use it for tips? I mean will the tips be deducted from his given OBC.?

Thanks :)

Yes. He can use it for the standard gratuties. The $300 will be posted to his onboard account and anything he purchases and the daily gratuties will be applied against tge OBC.

He can use it for charges to his folio including daily gratuity postings.

If he has some left over, he can also visit Guest Relations Desk onboard at least 2 nights before end of cruise and request a transfer of OBC to another guests folio.

On Eclipse this summer you couldn't cash out OBC in the Casino.

What you could do (without commission charge) is load your room key with OBC for use in the Casino - you have to say whether it's for slots or table. We only used it for slots, it might be different for table play. For slots, you then put your room key in the machine and transfer money from the card into the machine (minimum $5) using a pin code. you can't withdraw any money loaded into the machine - so if you transfer $50 you will have to play $50 on that machine but you can print off vouchers for any wins as you go (we did this to stop us playing off our wins). We were lucky and managed to turn about a 10% profit on about $200 we used of our OBC

We had around $50 non refundable OBC on Eclipse last month. We changed this for promotional chips in the casino and used our Select loyalty bonus cards to get a $5 matched bet. We both bet red/black over a few rounds and came out with $55. A win/win.

We had around $46 non refundable OBC on Eclipse last month. We changed this for promotional chips in the casino and used our Select loyalty bonus cards to get a $5 matched bet. We both bet red/black over a few rounds and came out with $55 which we cashed out. A win/win. The croupier even gave us advice on how to do it.

This is a B2B cruise, so $300.00 twice. If I understand you correctly, he can transfer any remaining OBC of his choice to us, and we can use that for our tips. We can pay him back...win, win ?

I haven't heard of this before. Something to consider. Anyone else done this?

On our last Celebrity cruise we took out $85 in promo chips and in about 10 minutes turned it into $160 at the blackjack table. Of course we could have lost it, but we were going to play a little anyway. We did get lucky, no guarantee with this method.

Another thing to consider, we had a small amount of non refundable left over at the end of the cruise, as well as a refund for cancelled excursions. We got the whole amount refunded to our credit card. Don't know if you would get the non refundable back if you didn't have refundable, or if they didn't want to separate it for less than $10.

Just of note, if you load $50 from play on your card into a machine and that machine does very poorly before that $50 is played, you can always cash out and the remaining balance from that $50 just loads back onto your card. You cannot withdraw any of the money in cash except for winnings as you mention, but if you don't lose that promotional credit if you don't use it all on that one machine.

Please refresh my memory... If I load $10 non refundable OBC onto my card to pay penny slots, do I have to cash out every spin I win even if small amount? (ie. win $2) Obviously not a big spender but curious as to how I can cash some winnings out over the length of the cruise.

No you don't .... just cash out at any time when you are ready to leave the machine. Keep track of how much of your promotional play you have played off so you don't keep playing into your winnings.

You can load all $300 onto your card for promotional play and cash it out your winnings as you go along. Just hit the collect button and you will get a that you can turn in for cash at the casino cage. Or ... you can save up all your tickets and combine them and then take it to the cage for cash. All unused promotional play will be added back onto the balance on your card. Don't just leave any on there though ..... you cannot get cash for it.

Also, you may earn some additional promo play as you gamble in the casino. That also has to be used before the casino shuts down at the end of the cruise or you will also donate that back to the casino.
