meatloafsfan Posted December 14, 2016 #26 Share Posted December 14, 2016 I think that 30 minutes is reasonable. During the summer on the Pride, it was no unusual for there to be a long line of people waiting to get into the MDR when the doors opened. By the time the end of the line got to the doors/your table, it was at least 10 minutes after the doors opened. I could see 15 minutes getting to be a sticky situation. katiel53 Posted December 14, 2016 #27 Share Posted December 14, 2016 I would like to see it set at 15 minutes, than lock the doors with a sign posted for the clueless. Totally agree!

WpgCruise Posted December 15, 2016 #29 Share Posted December 15, 2016 In the "Good Old Days" the doors were closed about 15 mins after seating time. It worked then, it should work now. Not being on time throws the service for the rest of the waiter(s) section off, and impacts more than just the late arrivals.
johnny75 Posted December 15, 2016 #30 Share Posted December 15, 2016 We were just off the Glory last week. The dining room service was a nightmare! We had your time dining . Tried the DR four times. The first was excellent----the rest terrible. Total disorganization, no flow of each course, entrees missing, dirty silver from the last course . Over two hours no dessert ! Walked out in disgust. Have 20 plus cruises on Carnival. Getting ready to leave and go somewhere else. Wake up cruisers, they have cut staff to the bone and can no longer give proper service. Rare sprint180 Posted December 15, 2016 #31 Share Posted December 15, 2016 15 minutes is enough time. Now they just need to actually enforce it.
smarks Posted December 15, 2016 #32 Share Posted December 15, 2016 I think it should be at 15 minutes, 30 is way too generous. I don't know why anyone could be so late, it's not like you're stuck in traffic or anything. I so agree. 15 mins. is plenty lead way. No traffic jams to get caught up in. I am guilty of waiting for 5 to 10 mins. the first night because the line is so long, but after that, I am on time.

While our assigned seating service on Fascination was certainly not impeccable by any means it was more than adequate considering what we'd paid for the cruise. Anyislandwilldo Posted December 15, 2016 #36 Share Posted December 15, 2016 It was announced at the beginning of cruise Dec 10th and there have been info signs before one enters MDR...guess people do not read. Onecouple with child came in this evening on 4th deck but walked down to 3rd...... they were 40 minutes late. 40 minutes late!! That is totally rude! figdu Posted December 15, 2016 #37 Share Posted December 15, 2016 We have done ATD since its inception and have only had poor service one time. We asked to be moved to a different section the next night and all was fine. The rest have been outstanding so I don't think ATD is the problem rather specific waitstaff. Elaine5715 Posted December 15, 2016 #38 Share Posted December 15, 2016 It just came out today so you wouldn't have seen it enforced as yet. It was posted on my last two cruises in October on the Dream and on the Conquest in August but the maitre's still escorted people to their seats at 60 minutes lates

Food was also very good. Older ship but really enjoyed the cruise. Saw late birds come into MDR on regular basis, looking forward to Carnival rolling out the new policy on all ships. johnny75 Posted December 15, 2016 #40 Share Posted December 15, 2016 If they cannot do ATD in two hours, how can they bring in the next group at 8? I believe they will not enforce the late to dinner rule. Just like they don't enforce the casino rules about only while playing. Sent from my HTC6500LVW using Forums mobile app That's the thing, if everyone is seated on time then they can bring in the next group at 8. thephillykid Posted December 15, 2016 #42 Share Posted December 15, 2016 I personally think that arriving 20-30 minutes late for dinner is unacceptable. Not fair to all concerned. The other guests, the wait staff and the kitchen staff. The buffet or room service are acceptable options. Good job Carnival. ScottsSweetie Posted December 16, 2016 #43 Share Posted December 16, 2016 The 8:00pm late dining time was already in effect on my November 6 cruise. DH didn't believe me when I remarked that this time was different and it had always been 8:15 before. And yes, I saw people arrive then as much as 30 minutes late and walk to their table. simplelife Posted December 16, 2016 #44 Share Posted December 16, 2016 I think 30 minutes is too lenient - 15 minutes is more than enough. Sent from my iPad using Forums

beerman2 Posted December 16, 2016 #46 Share Posted December 16, 2016 Good change! I do remember them locking the doors 1/2 hour after assigned dining times years ago. Being late throws the whole dining room staff off.

jimbri Posted December 16, 2016 #48 Share Posted December 16, 2016 I think this is a wonderful idea. We had a large family group near us on our last cruise. They came in late every night. Around the sixth night, they came in when we were having dessert! They were not served and it was explained to them by more than one person. This was the early seating and they were not happy. I don't understand how people can be so rude. Others can get there on time and if for whatever reason someone can't - they can go to the buffet where the food is good also. To be late every night is inexcusable.

The4Cruisers Posted December 16, 2016 #50 Share Posted December 16, 2016 SMH at the pompous Plat guy that wrote the note on John Heald's facebook page about this one today. I'm looking at you, Arnie! For those that didn't see it, he rolled out his "Platinum" status and then bltched about being asked to eat on the Lido since he was so late for seating in the MDR. He went on to say something like 30 min's late is acceptable, especially since he chooses to eat a late lunch on the cruise. What a swell guy! I think Carnival should lock the MDR seating down at 15 - 20 minutes. That is way more than enough time to get there! Kudo's to them for finally doing something about passenger rudeness.
